5 Up
5 positives this season. Most notably since the last report:
1. He shoots, he probably scores – Minnesota Chiefs forward Lionel Byrde currently holds a ridiculous 22.86 shooting percentage this season. What’s even more incredible is that it’s not like he’s just not shooting, he has a solid 16 goals. I’d like to note that the leader in shooting percentage is in fact the rookie Vladimir Lidstrom out of Texas with an equally absurd 24.32 shooting percentage, but his 9 goals are quite a few less than Byrde’s 16.
2. When will it end? – As of day 57 (game 266) Liam Kinsler, a member of the Texas Renegades, is currently on an 11 game point streak. He’s a main cog in the Texas offense with 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 37 games and he’ll need to continue this torrid pace if the Renegades hope to see some post season action.
3. Back in the black – Whereas the first quarter pole had many teams possessing a record below .500, the three quarter pole has shown significant improvement. League frontrunners like the Seattle Riot, Winnipeg Jets and Manhattan Rage have seen their insane winning percentages (greater than 0.700) drop slightly as was expected, but multiple teams climbed out from below .500 including the Hamilton Steelhawks (0.400 to 0.539), Edmonton Blizzard (0.441 to 0.551) and the Texas Renegades (0.467 to 0.554).
4. West Kendall is best Kendall – I doubt many would have pegged the West Kendall Platoon to be leading the lead in points after 38 games, but look at them go. They lead the league in wins with 24 and even more impressively in goals for with a whopping 118.
5. Most improved – Based purely on win percentage two teams stand out among the rest since the first quarter mark report. The Edmonton Blizzard and Hamilton Steelhawks. Edmonton have managed to increase its win percentage a massive 0.11 (0.441 to 0.551) and had the playoffs started today been in the fold. Likewise the Hamilton Steelhawks managed to increase their win percentage an even more impressive 0.139 (0.4 to 0.539) and have earned a spot in the top four in the east. Had the playoffs started today they’d also be in the fold.

5 Down
5 not so positives this season. Most notably since the last report:
1. Quick, grab something – Two teams have been in a bit of a free fall league rankings wise since the first quarter mark report. The Toronto North Stars and the Los Angeles Panthers. Although Toronto has only seen its win percentage slide a meager 0.061 (0.60.539) it has unfortunately resulted in a drop in 7 positions from 5th to 12th and if the playoffs started today they’d be watching from home. Los Angeles is not much better as they’ve let their winning percentage slide 0.094 (0.6330.539) and it’s resulted in a drop in the standings from 4th to 10th. A loss of 6 spots and falling out of the top 4 in the west.
2. Back down to earth – While it was unlikely these teams managed to maintain their insane winning percentage it is still worthy of a “down” as both the Winnipeg Jets and Manhattan Rage posted the greatest loss in winning percentage since the first quarter mark report. Winnipeg went from a massive 0.767 to a 0.649 for a loss of 0.118, while Manhattan went from 0.667 to a 0.556 for a loss of 0.101 winning percentage. Again they still hold above average winning percentages, and more importantly playoff spots, but a loss is a loss.
3. Have a point – No team has received more pity points for overtime losses than the Portland Admirals with 9. Some might argue their record would look a little nicer if only some of those games resulted in a win, unfortunately that didn’t happen. The Minnesota Chiefs are a close second with 8.
4. Lost his touch – Last season Los Angeles Panthers superstar Brian Morley lead the league with 29 goals in 52 games (0.56 goals/game). This season the hulking forward will be lucky to even crack half that as he’s only found the back of the net 9 times in 38 games (0.24 goals/game). With only 12 games remaining it’s extremely unlikely he’ll match his output from last season. To put it in perspective he’d have to score 20 goals in the last 12 remaining games (1.67 goals/game). For my fantasy teams sake I hope he does it.
5. Blowout – Through 266 games the most goals scored by a single team in one game is 7 and it has happened 6 times. The Portland Admirals have been involved in 3 of those cases, once beating the Seattle Riot 7-1, the largest blowout of the season, and twice losing 7-3 to the West Kendall Platoon and Texas Renegades. Split this one any way you like, but there is definitely something bad to be taken from it.
