Montreal Fans Rioting Over Ticketing Controversy

Montreal Impact fans are angry over a ticketing issue which led to them buying MLS tickets instead of SMJHL ones.</div>

Montreal, Québec

The hottest ticket in Montreal right now is the one that gets you in to see the Four Star Cup Finals between the Montreal Impact and the Colorado Mammoths.

But for some hockey fans, a computer error has caused them to miss out on getting to see game two of the series.

There were reports prior to the game of fans arriving to the arena, but being told that their tickets were not in fact for the game between the SMJHL's Impact and Mammoths, but rather for the exhibition game down the street between the MLS's Montreal Impact and the Colorado Rapids.

How could this have been allowed to happen, and why weren't the servers better equipped to handle a situation such as this one? We reached out to the Impact for comment, and received a response from the team's Co-GM, Jasper Clayton:

Quote:On February 26th, tickets to the game between the Montreal Impact and the Colorado Mammoths to be played the following evening sold out to the general public, leaving no more tickets available. However, rather than arriving at the site to find the usual "Would you like to purchase tickets to one of these other events?" prompt, fans were instead able to continue purchasing tickets to the game, as the computer erroneously allocated seats to the MLS game held on the same day for fans looking to watch the hockey game.

We're working with Ticketmaster to try and rectify this issue, and all fans who purchased tickets to the game but were turned away at the gate because of this computer error will receive a full refund, as well as free tickets to a regular season game next season.

The Impact organization apologizes for any issues this may have caused.

Despite the best efforts of the Montreal police force, things did not remain calm for long in Montreal, as fans took to the streets in a surprisingly organized manner forming a militia of sorts to try and break into the arena to see the game.

Failing that, they opted to flip a police car and set it on fire, then apologize to everyone who came near in the longstanding Canadian tradition of feeling sorry.

For all of your Montreal Impact news during the season and after, I’m Martí Zuviria of the Montreal Gazette. As always, we’ll have more for you on this story as it develops.
