![]() Montreal Militia S33 Team Awards
Following Montreal's Four Star Cup victory a lot of work has been to prepare for Season 34. However, before we move on to this upcoming season, we must tie the final loose end with respect to Season 33. We are here to announce the S33 Montreal Militia team awards. Without further ado we will begin: Kain Webb award, for Team Leadership This award is given to the Militia player who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership. There is no question that this year's recipient is worthy, and someday this award may be named after them. For the third straight season the Militia have selected Travis Jeziak as the Kain Webb award winner. Travis has been a magnificent leader, both on and off the ice. He embodies the Montreal culture, and bleeds Militia colours. It is truly sad to see him leave us this season, but it is now his time to take his shot at the big leagues. Congratulations Leppish Jordan Nugent Hall award, for Most Dedicated Player Next up we have the Jordan Nugent Hall award, which is given each season to the player identified as the most dedicated. We have another repeat award winner here, as this season the team has once again selected Michael Walker for this award. Michael joined the team as a 4th round draft pick, with very mild expectations. What he has done since that draft is nothing short of amazing. Walker has put in the time and effort to train consistently, and taken his game to another level. While the personal accolades are nice I'm sure, Michael was a key part of bringing home the most coveted SMJHL trophy of them all. Without the level of commitment and dedication displayed by Walker, it is hard to imagine this team having quite the same success they had. Congratulations mdubz The Christoph Klose award, for Top Forward Without question Michael Walker was the best forward right from the beginning of S33. While Tim Elliot had a legendary playoff run that will absolutely go down in the Montreal record books, Walker started scoring early in the season and didn't let up the whole way. Truly a magical season all around for Michael Walker. Congratulations again mdubz Quilha Agante award, for Top Defenseman A little more than goals and assists go into deciding the Quilha Agante winner, but this season our winner was ahead of the pack at both ends of the ice. Truly proud to see such a deserving player make such big strides this past season, and I'm thrilled to present this award to Jack Dodds! We acquired Jack from St Louis at the S32 trade deadline, and I expected him to be a key piece of our S33 roster. I think we got an absolute gem from STL and it's amazing to see a player like Jack achieve this kind of success. This moment is bittersweet though as we also bid farewell and good luck to Jack on his first season with the Toronto North Stars. Congratulations Jack_Meister Petr Klimek award, for the strongest abilities on both ends of the ice This next award has been won by some true Montreal Legends, and it is a great honour to receive. This season our winner was a late addition to the roster, but made an immediate impact. Our winner is Adam Kaiser! Kaiser joined the team at the S33 trade deadline. Being the GM of the Whalers, and seeing an opportunity to give himself a chance at a cup and also restock the cupboards for the team a bit, Adam made the difficult decision to join us for our playoff push. While Adam was left out of some player meetings, due to potential conflicts of interest, it did not stop him from giving absolutely everything he had for the team on the ice. We're happy to have had you for a brief stint, and hopefully you can carry these fond memories of Montreal with you as you make the leap to the SHL this season. Congratulations Kaisonious Josef Heiss award, for the top goaltender In S32 Prince had absolutely no competition for this award, he was terrific. However, this season we made the late addition of Carrick Murray, who really stepped up big for us. When we needed to give this team a shake in the playoffs, Murray took that pressure and ran with it. That being said though... Thaddeus Prince has been absolutely lights out for this team. Switching goalies for game 3 versus Detroit was never a personal judgment on Prince, but an attempted wake up call for the team. Prince took the change like a true leader, and he never stopped training. When we needed him again he was there, and he was ready to go. So this season's Josef Heiss award goes to Thaddeus Prince! Prince has lived up to the billing as a 2nd overal pick with his tremendous effort and commitment. He has worked as an assistant captain for the team over the past two seasons, and will continue to carry that responsibility. Montreal has been truly blessed with legendary goalies, and Prince is just getting start. Congratulations princekyle Alonzo Garbanzo Award, for best rookie performance on and off the ice It is certainly not easy to be a rookie in the SMJHL, and as we all know the ups and downs can be hard to stomach. Our winner this season got off to a rocky start following some controversy regarding their player agent but managed to score at an incredible pace down the final stretch and into the playoffs. This season the Alonzo Garbanzo award goes to Elias Lindstrom. With a 25 game suspension, and some bad press to boot, it would have been easy for Lindstrom to fade away and never return. However, he put his head down and got to work in the gym. Every day Elias was working out and getting ready for his suspension to be over. It is hard to overlook the fact that his scoring pace was among the highest in his rookie class, and his clutch contributions in the playoffs helped bring home a championship. Despite any player controversy it has been great having Lindstrom on the team, and we look forward to his sophomore season. Congratulations Marley Kurtis Hunter award, MVP selected by the Montreal Militia players Being selected by your teammates as the MVP of the team is an unbelievable honour. While Montreal had multiple players who could make a strong case as the MVP of this team, the contributions of one player seem to have stood out to his teammates. This season the players have selected Michael Walker to receive the Kurtis Hunter award. Congratulations once again mdubz Armin Brovlachuk award, season MVP selected by GMs As a GM it is a great privilege to be able to award this trophy to a player we feel led this team through the regular season. It is hard to imagine how this season would have gone if it weren't for the efforts of this player. This season Copenhagen and I have decided to award the Armin Brovlachuk award to Michael Walker! Before last season we were faced with the difficult job of finding a center capable of playing first line minutes. Walker was willing and committed to training for the center ice position, and he excelled above and beyond our expectations of him. We are truly grateful for your selfless dedication to the team, and are thrilled to have you returning for one more season. Congratulations mdubz Darian Scherbluk award, playoff MVP selected by GMs Bringing home a championship was surreal, and it took a complete team effort from top to bottom. Cope and I were blown away with the entire team, because everyone was willing to take on whatever role we asked of them. This season we had a player take a giant leap in his progression during the playoffs and we felt it set them apart as the MVP. We are happy to present the Darian Scherbluk award to Tim Elliot! Tim was our second pick in the S32 draft and expectations were high for him. His rookie season was pretty textbook, full of ups and downs, but Tim continued to grind it out at the gym. When he arrived to training camp for S33 he was without a doubt in the best shape of anyone, and he earned his way to the top line. As the season went on Tim felt like he could do more, but for some reason the pucks just weren't bouncing his way. In a private meeting we discussed his play away from the puck, and how working on that would give him more chances with the puck. When the playoffs began we saw the full extent of Tim's training and commitment. He steamrolled his way through the playoffs, consistently making the opposing team's defense look foolish. I'm so proud to see Tim make these large strides, and I am so excited to see what he can accomplish in S34.
