Despite a heartbreaking loss to the Detroit Falcons in the S34 playoffs, the Montreal Militia had a season to remember in a lot of ways. Here we honour the players who had a big part in how memorable last season was in Montreal. So without any further delay let's get this show on the road.

Kain Webb award, for Team Leadership – Tim Elliot (<a href='index.php?showuser=2489' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-17'>Marc Bradford</a>)

Last season was the third and final season for our Kain Webb winner, and he continued where he left off from the S33 playoffs. Elliot eclipsed his career high by posting 50 points in 50 games during S34 while putting up a +33 rating and dishing out some 58 hits to boot. However, it was another aspect of his game that shined brightest during S34, and that was his leadership. With a few seasons under his belt, and a scoring touch that finally seemed consistent, Elliot really began to make his voice heard both on and off the ice. The A on his jersey felt especially big this season as he continued to work alongside Michael Walker to lead the team by example. When the team was sluggish you could always count on Tim to go score a beauty goal, or even lay a big hit to get the bench on their feet. Tim has since graduated to the SHL where he'll debut with the New England Wolfpack this season, and the Montreal Militia couldn't be more happy for such a deserving player. All the best to you <a href='index.php?showuser=2489' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-17'>Marc Bradford</a>, a real Montreal legend!

Jordan Nugent Hall award, for Most Dedicated Player – Tim Elliot (<a href='index.php?showuser=2489' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-17'>Marc Bradford</a>)

Another award for Mr. Elliot, as his teammates recognize him for his dedication to the game of hockey. Despite any personal conflicts in his schedule, Tim was always at the gym working out and helping the younger players along. No rest for the wicked to say the least. It is always special to see a player give so much to his team and find reward with his results on the ice. Losing a player like Tim Elliot is not easy to manage, because the player often brings so much more to the table than any point production. In the case of Tim it is especially difficult because he was one of the first pieces of this strong Militia core that has been so dominant, and really pour himself into the team and the team's needs. Once again we would like to congratulate Tim on his promotion to New England, and wish him all the best.

Quilha Agante award, for Top Defenseman – Jack Hansen (<a href='index.php?showuser=2598' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Seth</a>)

This is an award not typically won by a rookie defenseman, but it is hard to ignore the immediate impact of someone like Jack Hansen. He was paired with SMJHL journeyman John Markie, and the pair formed chemistry so quickly that they weren't separated all season. It was Jack though who provided the spark and elevated Markie to post career numbers. Hansen was so good that he turned a player like John Markie, who had barely played a full season in the SMJHL, into an absolute force. Statistically Hansen was playing like a man possessed, posting 37 points in 50 games as well as an incredible +39 rating, which happens to be the second highest in SMJHL history. A lot was said about the weakness Montreal had on defense, and many wonder if they would've even made the playoffs without the efforts of Jack Hansen. We here in Montreal are glad we never had to find out!

Petr Klimek award, for the strongest abilities on both ends of the ice – Michael Walker (<a href='index.php?showuser=2477' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>mdubz</a>)

It was a season of change for our loyal captain Michael Walker. One season removed from being the top offensive weapon in Montreal, by a considerable amount as well, the Militia coaching staff wanted more. Walker was challenged to play even better away from the puck and to let some of the offensive responsibility fall to other players. He responded extremely well by posting a +38 rating, which also sits among the highest in SMJHL history. What amazed his teammates was that Walker sacrificed almost no offense as he cruised to another point-per-game season with 50 points on the dot. Michael Walker returns for another season, and the expectation is that he will continue to be leaned on for a 200-foot game. That doesn't mean you can't expect another 50 point season in what is likely his last SMJHL season.

Josef Heiss award, for the top goaltender – Thaddeus Prince (<a href='index.php?showuser=1574' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>princekyle</a>)

For 3 seasons in Montreal they have had one of the best goalies in the league manning their crease, and it has worked out quite well for them. When they traded away Stephen Harris to make room for Prince it was expected that he would play at least 3 seasons. In that time Prince has had very little competition for the crease, but that hasn't stopped him from continuously elevating his game each season. Prince provided the team with leadership, stability, and poise. Those traits were on full display in S34 where Prince emerged as the number one goalie in the SMJHL. Not since Matt Lewis-Flood has Montreal had a goalie quite as skilled as the heir to the Prince family fortune. Prince was named the league's top goalie at the recent awards ceremony, and we in Montreal believe it was about time. Thank you Prince, for all your hard work!

Kurtis Hunter award, MVP selected by the Montreal Militia players – Elias Lindstrom (<a href='index.php?showuser=1014' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Marley</a>)

It would be impossible to reflect on S34 without acknowledging the breakout season from Elias Lindstrom. The notorious winger spent half of S33 on the sidelines serving a league suspension, but still manage 15 points in 25 games. He followed that up with another 16 points in 19 playoff games en route to a championship. Then Lindstrom exploded in S34 with 56 points in 50 games, leading his team in goals. Lindstrom showed the ability to score regardless of which linemates he had, but he always played best with Vesa Perhonen. The two have great chemistry that will be a key for them to repeat their success from a season ago. Elias led the team by example last season, scoring in key situations on a regular basis. If Montreal is going to return to championship form then they will need Lindstrom to have another stellar campaign.

Alonzo Garbanzo Award, for best rookie performance on and off the ice – Jack Hansen (<a href='index.php?showuser=2598' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Seth</a>)

This appeared to be an easy decision for the players who voted for this award, as Hansen had not just a great rookie season, but one of the best rookie seasons in SMJHL history. From the moment Hansen arrived in Montreal it was all business, and it never took him any time to adjust to the league. What more can you say about one of the hardest working defensemen Montreal has ever had the honour of signing? He will be relied on ever more this upcoming season, but if last season is any indication then we can expect even bigger things from Hansen. I cannot express how happy we are that Jack signed with us, and we can't wait to watch the rest of his SMJHL career.

Congratulations to all our winners! Last season didn't end the way we wanted, but it was a great group to work with. I'm very pleased most of the team has returned for S35, and I think we've got an exciting season in store.
