Vancouver Whalers 7 || Halifax Raiders 3</div>

The Raiders were at home for a second game in a row. It was their latest game before their longest road trip of the season. The night before, they were destroyed by the Mammoths and they did extra defense drill in the morning. They were looking to keep the score close during that game.

During the first period, the Raiders were able to perform as they wanted, keeping the score more or less close. However, it didn’t go as well as they planned during this period. Larry Enticer was the first one to flinch in front of the Whalers’ attack. Two minutes into the game, Robert Phelps found the back of the net and barely 30 seconds later, it was Jack Dore’s turn with a deflection. Just like this, in the blink of an eye, Vancouver was up by two goals. Frustrated, the Raiders were starting to play a bit more undisciplined and soon after, Oliviz Klozoff was punished by the referees for hooking. The penalty kill unit of the Raiders took the ice and prevented the Whalers to further their lead. Yuri Boyka Jr. decided to take the game into his hand a little bit after the middle of the period. He was able to outplay Carrick Murray and get the score to 2-1. Angelo Odjick gave an opportunity to the Raiders to tie the game when he was sent to the sin bin for holding, but the power play unit didn’t manage to break the wall in Vancouver’s net. Toward the end of the period, Cloud McCarthy received a bad penalty for interference that will send their team in penalty kill mode at the start of the second.

Things degenerated fast for the Raiders during the second leg of the game. As McCarthy was in the penalty box, Halifax started the period with only 4 skaters and didn’t manage to gain possession of the puck. They tried to help Enticer on the play, but Shoyu Kikkoman had a better eye and found an opening in the net. Despite Vancouver gaining their 2 goal lead once again, the Raiders were able to draw a penalty on Hoid Wit a few seconds laters. It was Ted Glass that helped to crush again the goal gap when he blasted the puck from the blue line and scored on the power play. However, Montek Ramrap was fast after this goal to be sent to the sin bin, putting his team at risk to lose the lead again. Indeed, Spitfire prefered a bigger lead as he managed to send Enticer on the bench after a goal right before the penalty end. Jordin FourFour Jr. took place in the crease as the play started again. The Raiders pushed hard to make a play into the Whalers zone, but Hans Sørensen was too insistent in Murray’s area and was punished for goaltender interference. The Raiders were once again on the penalty kill, but after two goals earlier in the period, they were really holding a close formation. Vinny Marino gave a bit of hope to his team when, a couple of minute after the end of the latest penalty, he outplayed Vancouver’s goaltender and set the score 4-3. Things only went downhill after that for the home team. Brandon Gauthier was the first to beat FourFour Jr. and the goal gave wings to the Whalers. The game was now their game. Trucker Grogan was punished a few seconds later for holding down a player. However, it was Montek Ramrap penalty toward the 18 minutes mark that cost the team. Three seconds before the period ended, Chippy Chiclets capitalized on the power play offered to Vancouver.

The Raiders didn’t manage to turn the game around in the third period. Instead, they received 5 penalties during the 20 minutes, putting their team in a hard situation for most of the last period. The first one in the box was Dwayne Wyder for hooking right after the initial face off. The penalty was not even finished that Trucker Grogan was sent with Wyder for tripping and put the team on 5v3 for close to 30 seconds. Grogan barely step out of the box after his penalty that Ramrap was on it’s way for tripping. Wyder received a bad penalty when he was caught for roughing around the 8 minutes mark. This allowed Hoid Wit to score on FourFour Jr and give his team a 4 goals lead. The period ended with a bang when Klozoff and Gauthier decided to go at it and dropped the gloves. This didn’t allow the Raiders to come back even a little however and they would head into their road trip after two defeat in a row.

The unsung hero of the match for the Raiders was Lukas Müller. He managed to slip on the score sheet with an assist during his 23 minutes on ice. He also helped a lot his goaltender during the night, blocking a high 5 shots toward their net.
