It felt great. The monkey’s off my back and it didn’t even take all that long. I was worried that with the more sheltered moments I’m taking as a rookie that I wouldn’t be getting my chance to do something big for my team for some time. I was wrong.

Let’s rewind a touch to our third game of the season. We went down early. 3 minutes in and we were already down one to the Whalers. It was 2 by the end of the first. By no means an ideal spot, but this team is full of people looking to battle. We score one, they score one. Things were looking dire until the last 5 minutes of the game. My boy Hudec buries one right off the faceoff. Beautiful. We’re within one.

The clock keeps winding down, but we don’t stop, and finally, I’m given the opportunity to go out and do what I do best in the last 3 minutes of the game. I knew it was probably the last shift of the game for me so I knew I had to make it count. I set myself high on the faceoff circle and just prayed that Soren would be able to get a clean draw and win in back to me.
As soon as that puck was coming back, I was set. Stick cocked back and just ready to crush that puck when it was in range. I’m sure everyone has seen the highlight now, but with some traffic developing quickly in front, the goalie was never able to even see it coming.

It was bittersweet. We lost that game, and I wish my goal came in a win. But I just want to put a warning out there to all the goalies in the league. Watch out. I’m coming and the floodgates have been opened.
