Detroit's S43 Selections: Post-Draft Interviews
#1

The following quotes were taken from actual interviews on Discord shortly after the draft.

Detroit came in to the S43 draft with a top-3 pick, and pundits commented that the Falcons' most dire need was defense. As many predicted, Detroit selected Chuck Crutchfield with #3. Crutchfield's agent had represented Falcons' alumni Connor Blackwell; having had past connections to his prior clients, Detroit had little hesitation to make the defenseman their top pick.

"Obviously, it feels great to be drafted by the Falcons. My player agent has had great times there while managing Connor Blackwell, and I look forward to being a valuable part of the Falcons franchise," said Crutchfield.

Crutchfield has played well on a pairing with fellow rookie Poopity Scoop, who will be discussed next. He has 4 goals and 6 assists just 28 games in, and has received top-4 minutes, slotting in on the second unit.

With back-to-back picks at #12 and #13, the Falcons first announced the selection of another defenseman, Poopity Scoop. He was considered to be a safe pick and expected to higher, so Detroit was pleased that he fell to the second round.

"Detroit was honestly my top destination and I couldn't have been happier to go there. I thought I had no chance since it seemed the top three was quite set, and I definitely didn't see myself falling out of the top ten. So to go to my top choice and at an incredible value, it was literally the most ideal outcome possible," said Scoop. "How I fell to 12 behind first gens with 10 posts and recreates who have gone inactive before? I really have no idea and kinda want to ask about. But I'll be the last one to complain about draft position and will absolutely be a steal for Detroit and a stud dman for Minnesota in a few seasons."

Scoop has brought a physical presence to the back end, leading the Falcons in hits and penalty minutes. He has tallied 1 goal and 4 assists thus far.

The next pick was a first gen right winger, Ola Wagstrom. The Swedish right wing had garnered interest through his media presence, and promised to be an offensive-minded player. Wagstrom's agent had never had contact with the SHL before, so it was a risky pick for Detroit. The forward has remained engaged throughout his first weeks, so he looks like a possible gem.

"I was absolutely flattered to go in the second round; I was just hoping to go by the end of the third round. Detroit had reached out to me and said that they'd like to draft me, but I had no idea how high they were on me. I just want to thank them for believing in me and to express how happy I am with where I landed. I'm looking forward to growing into a skilled sniper and to proving that I was worth it," said Wagstrom.

Wagstrom has 4 goals and 2 assists, usually playing on the third line. He has shown discipline and restraint this far; his lack of physicality has kept him out of the box and should continue to help in that respect.

In round three, Detroit grabbed winger Waffles Man, whose tenacious play and enthusiasm has earned him merit. When asked how to describe how it felt to be selected by the Falcons, he called it "f**king awesome!"

Waffles Man, in spite of fourth line assignments, has outscored the previously-selected Ola Wagstrom. The forward currently has 3 goals and 4 assists. Like Wagstrom, he also has a spotless penalty record, having yet to be assessed a penalty.

Next up was pick #28, where Detroit grabbed yet another winger, Franz Cooper. Cooper exemplifies the draft strategy and scouting criterion the the Falcons look for, as he also released a superb media showcase in the days leading up to the draft. He has a very similar build and TPE count to Ola Wagstrom, previewing a potential dynamic duo in the future. His competitive spirit and friendliness made him desirable for any team's locker room.

"I might be biased, but Detroit drafted the best cohort of prospects for the future of the franchise. Between Ola and I providing future offensive firepower and the defensive talent they stocked up — obviously Crutchfield and Scoop are on their own level. I’m excited for where the team is going and what we can do together," said Cooper.

Cooper, also placed on the fourth line, has gelled with Waffles Man. He has also produced 3 goals, and he has 5 assists.

The Falcons final selection not to be passed was #35, where they selected Tomas Youngholm. The center registered for the draft just before it was to take place, but Detroit opted to take him as he was a known friend of fellow draftee Ola Wagstrom. He was a possibility to take over the fourth line, as he is a center.

"Falcons seem like a great fit. I was contacted by Scout Grok and he was pretty straightforward and to the point, which I like. It's great to have a familiar face go to the Falcons in the same draft too!" said Youngholm.

Youngholm has been a healthy scratch for most of the season and has yet to accrue any points. Pingy Pingu has been receiving the nod as the Falcons fourth line center in recent matches.
