"The last 24 hours have been entertaining, to say the least. Gareth Rush and myself came into the Season 44 SMJHL Draft with certain expectations. Those expectations were fueled by nothing but the hard work and effort of Gareth during the weeks leading up to this draft. That is hard work that includes countless workout, expensive equipment purchases, completing team interviews, and making himself available to the media in a multitude of ways."
"Gareth stormed out of the draft after not being selected in the 1st round. Despite my advice to him, he was overconfident in the ability of many SMJHL GM's to realize actual talent. Many analysts pegged him with a 1st round draft grade, to include a few who felt he'd go as high as 4th. And when Gareth fell out of the 1st round because of the ignorance of those who held the draft cards, he was enraged. It was best to let him walk out of the building and cool off. What didn't make matters any better was the Colorado Raptors
submitting a $3 million deal to the SMHL front office, as if Gareth had accepted by default. Knowing Gareth was still very angry, I advised him to reject the offer and take some time to decide what he wants to do. As you all know, Gareth could've been persuaded to sign with Colorado at a later time or even ask to be traded. It didn't take long for the Raptors front office to throw a 'hissy fit' and outright refuse to cooperate."
"The public attention Gareth is receiving for this incident is amusing. Perhaps the most amusing are those who continue to criticize Gareth and make assumptions about the type of teammate he has been and will be. Every player in that draft class is out to become a star and in doing so, means to put themselves in the right position. I'll admit Gareth Rush is a lot of things, but above all, he's brutally honest. He's honest about his self-worth and he's honest about what he's after."
"The reactions from those within the SMHL and SHL channels has been even more amusing. If anything, all the negative reactions only validate what I said about this draft process from the beginning. This leagues have long been overtaken by the same group of soft-serve brothers, sisters, cousins, and God knows what else. In a league where the goal is to win and the best take home the most money, Gareth is being advised to worry more about being,
