File Worker the king of burger Quote:522 words The first week in the Season 45 of the Simulated Major Junior Hockey League has been played, and the two recently drafted Swiss defensemen have made a name for themselves so far. If we look only at the rookies of this season, we get the following top 5 scoring players: 1 Matt Kholin (HAL) 3-3-6 2 Mathias Seger (ANA) 2-3-5 3 Michael Scarn (COL) 0-5-5 4 Kit Smeb (DET) 3-1-4 5 Basil Magnicotta (STL) 2-2-4 Anaheim defenseman and alternating captain Mathias Seger recently scored two goals and one assist in the 4-3 win against the Lethbridge Lions. This fantastic performance not only made him the second best scoring rookie of the league but also the fifth best scoring defenseman of the season so far. Since the Anaheim Outlaws are an expansion team and therefore don't have many experienced players on their team, Seger is playing on the first line and also gets ice time in both power plays and penalty killings. To many people's surprise, the rookie has so far seen the most ice time of any player in the whole league. Toghether with Seger, the whole team of the Anaheim Outlaws have had a surprisingly good start to the season. As an expansion team, they were expected to be in the bottom of the standings, but after one week, the are on second place, only one point behind the leading team from Colorado, the Raptors. Basil Magnicotta is with his two goals and two assists the fifth best scoring rookie and the tenth best scoring defenseman of the league. With the St. Louis Scarecrows, Magnicotta is on a much stronger team on paper, than Mathias Seger. So it comes to no surprise that he is only playing on the third line. However, he is getting ice time on the Scarecrows' power play and with his strong shot, gets many opportunities to score that way. The Scarecrows have had an equally good first week than the Outlaws. In fact, both teams have the exact same amount of points, goals scored and goals allowed. The only difference is, that it doesn't come as a surprise for the Scarecrows. The defending champions were expected to belong to the top SMJHL teams again this season. So both of the Swiss defensemen have had a phenomenal first week in their overseas adventure. It is still hard to say, how good their cards will be at the Season 46 SHL entry draft, but the chances in getting picked higher up than in their SMJHL entry draft are so far pretty good for both of them. We will follow their development closly however their seasons develop and keep all our readers up to date. In any way, the future of Swiss hockey looks to be brighter than the past and if there will be a couple of similarly good performing youth players in the next couple of seasons, we might soon see a team Switzerland at the IIHF.
