(1400 Words, ready for grading)
With the 47th Season of the SHJHL coming soon, it's about time to see who's at training camp and what they'll be doing. For the Lethbridge Lions... WHO'S OUT: Roger Bastion - C (13-23-36): The team's first line center has finally received the call of duty to Toronto, and will make his rookie debut this coming season in the SHL. After winning the 4 Star Cup with St. Louis in Season 44, Bastion was picked second by the lions in the expansion draft. In two seasons, Bastion tallied 28 goals and 52 Assists (holds the franchise record for assists), creating 80 points (also a franchise record). Bastion was a top 10 center. Monkey D. Luffy will be expected to take his spot on the first line. Benois Minuscule - D (1-10-11): The Calgary Dragons once again take another defenseman from the Lethbridge Lions due to depth issues at defense. Minuscule played in a great pairing with Thomas Bathory in the second line during Season 46. Currently, Minuscule ties the franchise records for hits (158) and shots blocked (120), which he was in the top 10 last season. Maurice Amin - LW (Did Not Play): Released by the Lions, Amin was a healthy scratch for most of his first season and throughout all of his second season. Amin only played 21 games in his career, tallying 3 goals and 4 assists. Carlo Russo - RW (14-14-28 Total: 5-1-6 With the Lions): The Lions' trade deadline acquisition, the winger slotted into the top line, providing an offensive boost going into the postseason. Russo has hit the age limit for the SMJHL and will enter the SHL as a free agent. WHO'S STAYING: Monkey D. Luffy © - C (17-21-38): Sharing first line duty with Roger Bastion last season, Monkey D. Luffy will be looking forward to taking full autonomy over first line duties going forward. Luffy had a significantly better season than his rookie campaign and will look to hit the 40 point mark this season. Call Up Status: The champion Buffalo Stampede is currently not in need of Luffy. Luffy will more than likely make his debut after he hits the SMJHL Age Limit Cant Eykill - C (6-16-22): Previously the third line center, Eykill will be looking to take second line duties. With 22 points last season, he will more than fit that bill. Call Up Status: Eykill was very close to being called up by the Edmonton Blizzard but it was decided that he would stay in Lethbridge for this season. Expect him to be called up next season. Mister McCarty - C (1-2-3): McCarty is expected to keep his 4th line role going into this season. Call Up Status: McCarty was not drafted by an SHL team, and will be expected to play until age-out. Eva Lykke Aparjode (A) - LW (13-14-27): Aparjode will be expected to keep her 2nd line role, unless coaching staff will move her to the 1st line, switching out with Arsene Arsenich. Aparjode Call Up Status: The Chicago Syndicate has not expressed interest in calling up Aparjode yet. Austin Roenick - RW (14-16-30): Roenick will be slotting into the 1st line this season after a stellar rookie campaign. Roenick was close to achieving the Esa Anrikkanen trophy as the best rookie of the year, only being beaten out by Cullen Gray of the Vancouver Whalers. Call Up Status: Management of the Tampa Bay Barracuda are giving Roenick the choice of whether or not he will be called up. As of right now, Roenick is staying in Lethbridge Borůvka Banananák - RW (9-8-17): Banananák will be playing on the second line this season after a solid rookie campaign. Call Up Status: The Edmonton Blizzard will not need Banananák for the near future. Jules L'Eclair - RW (10-9-19): Another top 10 rookie, L'Eclair will be keeping her 3rd line duty for now. There will be a possibility of her upgrading to the 2nd or 1st line in the future. Call Up Status: Like Aparjode, L'Eclair has not been considered for a call up yet. Arsene Arsenich - LW (14-11-25): Arsenich will continue to serve his role as a top 6 forward, as expected from one of the Lions' most consistent offensive threats. Arsenich was a top 10 goal scorer in Season 46. Call Up Status: It was made clear to Minnesota Chiefs Management that Arsenich is wanting to stay all 5 years in the SMJHL. Dickens Makeout King - LW (5-3-8): Makeout-King will more than likely slot in the 3rd line. Makeout-King has noticeably regressed from his rookie season, leading coaching to promptly demote him. Call Up Status: The Winnipeg Jets have not expressed a need to call him up. Jøln DuBølk (A) - D (2-29-31): A top 10 defenseman last season, DuBølk is looking to improve even more from last season. Last season, DuBølk was the team leader for assists. Call Up Status: DuBølk, like Roenick, will decide when he will make the jump to Tampa Bay. Donny McMasters - D (5-23-28): McMasters will more than likely share time with Bathory on the first line next to DuBølk.McMasters has proven that he would be Brennan Kennedy Jr.'s successor after having to replace him last season. Call Up Status: Toronto has not expressed a need or interest to call up McMasters. Thomas Bathory - D (3-13-16): Bathory will be sharing 1st line duty with McMasters this season after a solid rookie campaign. Call Up Status: Bathory is not expected to be called up to the Los Angeles Panthers soon. Jay Boom'Boom - D (0-9-9): Boom'Boom's rookie campaign looks to be the beginnings of a great enforcer. Boom'Boom is expected to stay on the 3rd pairing but may take 2nd line duty as well. Call Up Status: Like Bathory, Boom'Boom is not expected to be called up in the near future. Dinārs Briedis - D (2-11-13): Briedis has been a valuable piece by being the anchor of the 3rd pairing. It is expected that he will stay there for next season. Call Up Status: Briedis was not drafted in the S44 Entry Draft, and will enter the SHL as a free agent after he ages out. Sami Kärppä - D (0-2-2): Kärppä is expected to be a scratch for most of the season. Call Up Status: Kärppä remained undrafted in the S46 Entry Draft, and will enter the SHL as a free agent after he ages out. Patrice Nadeau - G (37 Games Played, 0.911 SV%): Nadeau is looking to continue being the backstop of the Lions after a much-improved sophomore season, where he posted the highest save percentage the league has seen in many seasons. Call Up Status: The San Francisco Pride will be looking to bring up Nadeau in a season or two. Harry Carpet - G (14 Games Played, 0.891 SV%): Carpet played valiantly for the 14 games he played and will be looking to improve this coming season. He will be starting more than the required amount of games for backups. Call Up Status: Toronto has not considered bringing up Carpet as of late. WHO'S IN: Gordon Bombay: The 5th Overall Pick, Bombay will slot in on the 3rd line Tah Puhcheese: The 26th Overal Pick, Purchase will be on the 3rd Line with Bombay.
