After being drafted by Montreal, Sarantez was looking forward to taking on a leadership role early on. He knew he gained a lot of insight and wisdom from his uncle, while also being a high hockey IQ player and being a thoughtful person, wanted to make everyone around him better.
But on joining Montreal he noticed something strange, he was not allowed to be selected as a captain or an alternate by his teammates. The reasoning was because they had previously excluded rookies from the honor. After the announcement of the Montreal captains, TSN caught up with the your rookie and asked who he voted for: "None of them." Why: "Well, if everyone doesn't get a fair shot, they how does it represent the team and if it doesn't represent the team, then I don't want to be a part of it. The fact that a rookie cannot be a leader in the locker room is not right. Anyone can step up at any moment to help the team and by saying you aren't able to do that is already demonstrating that they don't care what a rookie may bring to the table. And if they don't care about that, then why should I care about picking a captain?" Do you think this will hurt you, not voting: "No, cause like I said they don't care. So I am just gonna go about my business and if anyone wants my help it is there, but other than that, I am just gonna play." "That's all. Adios." Sarantez walked into the locker room and got ready for practice. ![]() (Thanks to Tweedle, Dion.OvOxO., & Kylrad)
