It is pure mystery about why Marcus Weiser has struggled so far this season. When asked about it, he responds: "Not your damn business, fake news guy." The 17th overall pick had a very impressive prospect showcase. He put up 41 points in 40 games during Round Robin. In the playoff, he had 15 points in 6 games before being eliminated. Surely that was good preview of what was to come in the SMJHL, most of us thought. But it wasn't. Marcus did not put up a single point during the SMJHL preseason. 25 whole games. No points. "This league is much tougher than I originally thought, but I also think a lot of bullshit happened during the games that were out of my control," said Weiser after the 19th game of the preseason. After that abysmal preseason, Marcus kept his spot on the 3rd line. The coaching staff still saw potential in him. The season started, and nothing changed. It took Marcus 23 games to register his first point of the season, an assist. That's 2 games better than the preseason, so improvement did take place. He followed it up with 2 goals in the next 9 games, putting his point total to 3. He was the first rookie on his team to score a game winning goal. "Such a relief. People will finally shut the (censored) up about my 0 goals! Haha look at this little punk with 0 goals! It is so tiring." Marcus spent the start of the season with Marcus Ohlsson and Artem Mozgov, the two Marcus's struggled to produce. Sami Rieder was moved down to his line, then leading scorer Cullen Gray. Marcus's production barely changed. "They are so very talented. Once again a lot of bullshit with the puck bouncing and other stuff beyond my control. Robbing me of assists." Last night Marcus scored his 2nd game winning goal of the season. That ties him with 2 others at the top of the rookie GWG leaderboard. Maybe he was drafted 17th overall for his clutchness. He did put up incredible numbers during the playoffs of the prospect showcase, first overall in points. Maybe he will do the same for the upcoming SMJHL playoffs. Only time will tell. *374 words
