Harvey Danger - The Most Underrated Defenseman?
#1

In case you haven't heard of him, Harvey Danger is a defenseman for the Texas Renegades. He was drafted 3rd overall in the S42 draft, one of the worst drafts of all time, but he was picked ahead of third generation guys like Troy McClure III and Cameron Carter III, and at the time it was a very questionable pick by @dankoa. Danger had 6 points in his rookie season with the Montreal Militia, but I guess he was a plucky first gen.
,
Playing on a team that is loaded with defensive talent was always tough, as Danger was the #4 defenseman during his first few years, but he has learned a lot which has gotten him to this point. Now he sits on the first pairing with an aging Liam O'Callaghan, and was within 1 point of former Defenseman of the Year winner The Dude.

Sitting at just under 1300 TPE, Danger just had a career year (with an expiring contract, may I add), putting up 150 hits to go along with 9 goals and 32 assists. 15th in the league in hits, he also sits 3rd in the league in total hits + shot blocks. His two way game makes him one of the best defenseman in the league, but he gets no respect. This didn't come out of nowhere either as Danger had put together 30+ points and 80+hits the last two seasons playing on the second pairing of a team who has struggled to make the playoffs as long as he's been there. Analytics look positive on Danger, especially this season, as seen in @luketd chart here: https://public.tableau.com/profile/luke..../ShotsvsSH, but yet not in @aaronwilson chart: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...=406296845, which hopefully is just because Texas sucked big time in S49.

Let's not even get started on the Great Britain IIHF team, where he has never been given a chance to succeed. Despite the fact that he has numerous medals, including a Gold, he is really looking for a chance to take the team on his back and lead them back to glory.

Yet, despite the fact that Danger is a top 3 pick and has strong defensive numbers in the past, he has never been chosen in a Fantasy League and isn't talked about in the media outside of Texas. After a strong S49 leading to another season as an upcoming unrestricted free agent, maybe a few people will take a flyer on him in Fantasy and he will be finally be taken seriously as a top defenseman in the SHL? Does he have to leave Texas to go to a bigger market for recognition? Is it time to move on from a rebuilding team for a chance at a cup before he hits regression?

This summer should be very interesting for the future of Danger, as the next contract he signs may be his last in the league. Only time will tell...
