Frans Eller from the Carolina Kraken of the SMJHL has fielded six or more inquiries from prospective IIHF homes. Eller projects to be a mid to high tier goaltender, so the demand is understandable. Eller, a Dane, has long advocated for the Danish to be their own IIHF franchise, but the IIHF has never quite seen eye to eye on this topic.

The teams that have reported interest in the Danish netminder are Team Canada, Team Czechia, Team Sweden, Team Norway, and Team Switzerland. It’s reported that the young Dane is looking for a spot where he can be THE GUY for the WJC for the foreseeable future, as he may have the next 4 seasons in that slot while he awaits the opportunity to be a starter at the IIHF World Championships level.

Being a Scandinavian nation appeals to the young Dane, but the potential of playing for a powerhouse can’t be denied either. Eller’s agent, Ace Faulkner, has provided the following quote regarding his young client.

“Frans Eller is a goaltender with a sky high ceiling. He’s always wanted to play for Team Denmark, but because that’s not an option, he is fielding all options. We will review all proposals put forward to us and will make a decision by 2/29/20. He’s looking for a role where he can be the starter at the WJC level and a clear path to eventually starting IHF tournaments.”

It looks like unless someone knocks Eller’s socks off, he’s happy to sit and wait until the perfect opportunity arises.
