SMJHL Team Preview Part 2 - Expansion Teams
#1

Double Media Bonus!

I previously wrote an article where I did an overview of all the SMJHL teams and looked at where I might be able to fit in based on who has needs at RW. I was unaware at the time that the league would be adding two new teams in expansion this season, so now I’m here to write a little bit about the two expansion teams. Gotta take advantage of that Double Media money since I didn’t for my last article. Obviously neither team has any players at the moment, so there is no need to add any information about that since both teams have needs at every spot. The expansion draft tonight will change that a little, but with only 5 players each (I think) that will still leave an opening at pretty much every spot for both teams other than maybe goalie. With that brief introduction let’s go ahead and look deeper at the two new teams.

First up is the Nevada Battleborn. While I don’t have the info for exactly where they are playing I’m going to assume they are located in Las Vegas, because honestly where else would make sense for a sports team in Nevada? First off Battleborn is a cool fucking team name. Very different and unique. The bighorn sheep logo set in the state outline is also great. The way the team's colors were used in the logo is very well done. I like the navy and gold combination. The jersey’s look great as well. Overall the graphic design department for this team did an amazing job. As far as the location of the team, well everyone knows Las Vegas. I don’t really need to go into detail there, but besides Vegas there are some other cool places to visit in the state. Mostly state and national parks, but it seems like the majority of the state is filled with beautiful parks to visit. I don’t really have much else to say about Nevada, so let’s go on to the other expansion team.

The Quebec City Citadelles are the other expansion team, and if my count is correct the fourth Canadian team in the league. After a quick google search I’ve discovered that the Quebec City Citadelles were a team in the AHL until as recently as 2002. It was named after the Citadelle of Quebec, which is a military installation in the city. I’m not a big fan of re-using the name. I think the creators of the team should have come up with a new unique team name. I do like the new logo with the owl with the Q in the center. The one thing I don’t understand is the use of the red color in the logo, but then it never appears anywhere else in the uniforms. I would’ve liked to see that color used in the uniforms, even if it was subtle or just an alternate jersey. Use it on a sleeve stripe or something similar. The uniforms have a unique design that works pretty well. It’s not my favorite jersey, but it definitely stands out. Quebec City is the capital of the Quebec province in Canada and I think they primarily speak French in the province. I’m not sure if it’s the only province that speaks French, but I think it’s the main one. It’s one of the largest cities in the country, so I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff to do in the area.

That concludes my brief addition to my SMJHL team preview to add the two new expansion teams. Please don’t take any of my opinions personally, I’m new and don’t really know what I’m talking about.
