Esa Anrikkanen is the SHL's all time leading scorer. But how did he get there? Well let's start at the very beginning. Esa Anrikkanen is @Steelhead77 first player. Now I'm brand new to this site so I don't know hardly anyone, so I don't know Steelhead but from looking at his profile and his posts, he has been around forever, has been the General Manager of the Calgary Dragons for an outstanding 31 seasons and seems like an all around awesome dude. Esa Anrikkanen was created all the way back in time for the S17 SMJHL draft, where he went 12th overall to the Detroit Falcons. The Falcons GM at the time saw the potential in him to trade up to the 12th spot just to take him. Even immediately after the draft everyone thought he was the steal of the draft. He showed that was true in his rookie season leading the entire SMJHL in goals and points with 22 goals and 38 points. That season saw him take home quite the collection of individual hardware including, the Ideen Fallah Trophy, Raymond Lindsay Trophy, Elias Armia Trophy, Jared Hanson Trophy, Roberto Martucci Trophy and the Ronan O'Keefe Trophy. Due to his excellent rookie season, Esa was once again traded up to be drafted this time 4th overall by the Calgary Dragons. Esa jumped into the SHL his very next season and had a trying rookie season in Calgary scoring only 7 goals and 15 points. His sophomore season went just as well this time scoring 10 goals but only managing 13 points total. S20 is the year where Esa really took that next step forward in his career and nearly tripled his point total from the year before to 33 points, he also scored 17 goals and won the Kain Webb trophy voted as the hardest working player. Just before S24 Esa took over as owner of the Calgary Dragons and he was always about the team's success not his own individual. Although Esa remained a consistent player throughout his entire career, he never did lead the league in points or goals, but that consistency paid off with an amazing 28 year career in the SHL where he is the only player to ever score 500 goals (514 total) and 1 of only 2 players to score over 1000 points (1063 total). When Esa joined the dragons in S18 it had been 9 years since their last Challenge Cup, and when Esa took over as owner in S24 it brought that drought up to 15 seasons. That would all end 3 seasons later in S27 as Esa won his first Challenge Cup as a player and owner. The Dragons would go on to win 4 more Challenge Cups (S29, S32, S40, and S42) while Esa was still lacing them up. S46 was Esa's last as a player and he hung up his skates as the SHL's leader in goals, points and the first ever player to reach 2000 TPE. Esa Anrikkanen's legend continues to this day as owner of the Calgary Dragons where they won their last Challenge Cup only back in S50 and are currently sitting at 3rd in the Western Conference with the hope of making another run of it.
