(Graded) Deep Dive #1 - Anchorage Armada Rookie Analysis

(This post was last modified: 08-20-2020, 12:22 PM by StamkosFan.)

In my first Deep Dive article I will analyze the season of the Anchorage Armada rookies so far. The draft for Anchorage was very offense heavy, as they already had an atrocious defense to lean on. Hence, they selected two offensive players with the first two picks in their draft. Not only that, they picked two of the famous Petrov brothers who entered the draft. The first rounder, RW Vladimir Petrov and the second rounder, LW Slava Petrov. Both of them played a very good rookie season so far and are promising prospects for the upcoming seasons.

Vladmir Petrov played in all 36 games so far and recorded 13 points. 6 goals and 7 assists are on his side. He managed to get his stats with only 12:14 minutes of icetime per game, which is a very good rate. He is occassionally used in Power Play, were he has 0:59 minutes, and is also seen on the ice in Short Hander situations, with 0:38 of ice time. He shot 61 times on the goal, which results in a 9.84% shooting percentage. This is the best value of any Anchorage rookie this season, so he proves he was worth the 1st round pick spent on him. In regards of TPE he is slightly behind his brother with 256 TPE at the moment.

Slava Petrov sits at 258 TPE at the moment, which is not only top of the Anchorage rookies, but also 2nd of the entire S56 rookie class. He also played in all games so far, and recorded 4 goals and 8 assists for a total of 12 points so far. His +/- value of +4 is also a very good number for a rookie. He has a bit less ice time than his brother with only 10:42, but almost makes up in scoring to his brother. He still has to improve his efficiency as most rookies need to, with only 7.69% shooting percentage.

The third round pick was the only defensive pickup of the Armada in this season. They selected Michael Withecheck as their missing piece on defense. Withecheck gets by far the most ice time of all Armada rookies in 20:08 minutes per game on the ice. It means a lot that the team already uses him so much, but it makes sense as he is the 6th defender on the team. He is also mainly used in Powerplay situations, what 3:38 minutes of icetime show. The rookie defender aready recorded 5 goals and 13 assists, which results in 18 points and a value of +7.

Halldor Ragnarsson was the pick in the 4th round, and is the least used rookie this season. In 9:56 ice time, he recorded 1 goal and 2 assists and has a +/- value of -6. He is at 190 TPE at the moment, which hopefully will improve down the line, and may result in more ice time for him.

Colin Fuhr was the last pick in the S55 SMJHL draft for the Armada at pick 51. Fuhr is a steady earner and at 210 TPE. He gets 11:14 minutes of ice time and already scored 7 goals and 6 assists. He has the best shooting percentage of all Armada rookies with 15.91%.

The Armada also picked up two players from waivers, namely Goaly Chimkin Tendy and forward Lemo Pihl. Tendy was used in 10 games so far, and has a positive win-loss percentage. He has 245 shots against and 223 saves, which results in 22 goals against and a 0.910 save percentage. Lemo Pihl, a LW used as Center for the boat, gets a good amount of 10:15 minutes of ice time. He collected 214 TPE already and scored 1 goal and 2 assists. He has to work on his shooting percentage though, as this is at only 5% at the moment.

APPROVED +5 TPE @sakrosankt
