Breaking Down Every SHL teams Goaltending Situations
#1

Well the offseason seems like it's just around the corner and as a S56 draftee, I've been looking forward too and beginning to get curious onto where I'll end up. With their only being 2 real goaltending jobs on a team, I'm sure I won't be on many teams radars but for now I'm going to go through all the teams and take wild swing on whose radar I may or may not be on.

Eastern Conference

Atlanta Inferno  Inferno

So considering at this point they have no body on their roster, they could definitely be looking to draft a goalie early in the S56 draft. Of course all that can change and will definitely to a certain degree once the expansion draft happens and the Inferno acquire their first few players.

Final Ranking: 5 out of 5 - Definitely on their radar (at least until the expansion draft)

Baltimore Platoon  Platoon

Right now on their main roster the Baltimore Platoon have Luca Del Vecchi(@Zoone16) and Marques Brownlee (@Really). Sitting in their prospects pool they also have Leo Bloomfield (@BloomeyGB). Luca Del Vecchio has been the Platoon's starting goaltender now for the past 3 seasons ever since Luca made the jump up from Kelowna. The user behind Del Vecchio is Zoone16 who is a very active member on the site, who has a league job as a media grader, big ole bank account and has no problem earning TPE. Simply put he is Baltimore's starting goalie of the present and future and that won't be changing any time soon. Baltimore's backup goalie is Marques Brownlee and Brownlee's user Really has been inactive since last November so I'd imagine he'd be getting cut as soon as a more active backup was available. Now sitting in their pool of prospects is Leo Bloomfield who has been playing in Maine in the SMJHL for the past 3 seasons. Leo's user is BloomeyGB and he's another active user who is the current Ireland Federation Head in the IIHF and although he has run out of money for training he should be a decent TPE earner and should be backing up Del Vecchio in Baltimore as soon as next season.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - Probably not looking to draft a goalie

Buffalo Stampede  Stampede

So right now Buffalo is rocking Elizabeth Doyle (@Evok) and Lee Marshall (@LGRW613) as their goaltenders on their main roster and then they have Thor Odison (@feeler) and Blunt Man (@Obsidian311) waiting in their prospect pool. Elizabeth is the defacto number 1 in Buffalo and her user Evok is a very active and respected member on this site. She has a super healthy bank account and earn's TPE like no other, so her reign in Buffalo will be as long as she wants it to be. Lee Marshall's user LGRW613 has been inactive for a while now so I'm sure he will be getting cut as soon as once of their prospects makes the jump from juniours. Thor Odison played out this season as the Detroit Falcons starting goaltender and Odison's user feeler is someone who is actively updating his player and should be ready to make the jump to back up Doyle is the next couple of seasons. Blunt Man is another good goaltending prospect that Buffalo is lucky to have. Blunt played last year down in Carolina as the Kraken's number 1 goalie putting up 6 shut outs in the process. Blunt Man's user Obsidian311 has been doing a good job updating his player and even though he has a negative bank balance at the moment, he still reckons to be a good player long term.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - Would be super suprised if they drafted a goalie

Chicago Syndicate syndicate

The Chicago Syndicate have on their main roster, Tibuk Soonika (@chetib) and Billy Sorokin (@oddly_colored_beef), and then sitting in their prospect pool is Junior Guarda (@Loco). Tibuk Soonika is just about to finish his 11th season in the league so he should start regressing here a bit but his user chetib has done a pretty good job earning TPE and updating his player so he should be able to fight it for a little while. Backing him up in Chicago is Billy Sorokin and his user oddly_colored_beef. Billy has been in the league for 10 years but has been inactive since who knows when so I'm sure he'd be getting dropped sooner then later. In the Syndicate prospect pool sits Loco's player Junior Guarda. Guarda spend the s55 season (his second in the league) as the back up in Newfoundland. Loco hasn't been the top TPE earner by any means but he definitely has the bank account to be make his player better if he so chooses.

Final Ranking: 4 out of 5 - Could definitely see them drafting a goalie to challenge Soonika for the starting role in 3-4 seasons.

Hamilton Steelhawks  Steelhawks

The Hamilton Steelhawks have two fairly young goalies in A Jobin (@"Awesomecakes") and Ian Venables (@Budgie) on their main roster and are currently lacking any goaltending prospects. A Jobin started for the Steelhawks this past season his first season in the SHL after making the jump from the Detroit Falcons in the juniors where he had a pretty successfull career which included a 4 Star Cup in S53. The user behind Jobin is Awesomecakes and just as his name would suggest, has done an awesome job updating his player and earning that TPE. He should be Hamilton's starting goaltender from now and the foreseen future. Ian Venables was the back up this year for the steelhawks and it looks like his user Budgie hasn't updated for a little while and has regulated his player to a career back up for teams that need a roster fill.

Final Ranking: 3 out of 5 - While they definitely could use a goaltending prospect, with Jobin locked in as starter for a while and a more then capable backup in Venables, the Steelhawks can afford to prioritize elsewhere early in the draft

Manhattan Rage  Rage

The Manhattan Rage currently have Peter Larson (@Tomasnz) and Samat Beibitzhanov (@Duff101) in net on their main roster and have Name Redacted (@Skeleton Party) sitting in their pool of prospects. Peter Larson started for the Rage last season and even though he just finished his 11th season and regression should be hitting, his user Tomasnz has done an excellent job earning TPE and keeping him updated and should be able to hold onto the starting role for a little while longer. Backing up Larson this year was Samat Beibitzhanov whose into his 2nd year in Manhattan after a 3 year career in Colorado of the SMJHL. Samat's user Duff101 has done a good job earning TPE and updating his player and I'm sure is looking to take over the starting role in Manhattan as soon as Larson lets him. Name Redacted has been playing in Vancouver of the SMJHL as a 3 year starter and his user Skeleton Party has done an excellent job with Redacted, keeping him updated and trained.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - Would be surprised if they targeted a goalie in the draft

New England Wolfpack  Wolfpack

Well I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of the Wolfpack's goalie situation with young star goalie Frans Eller (@Ace) and Mike Hroch (@Jabs) on the bench up in New England, while they don't have any goalie prospects in their pool. Frans Eller led all starting goaltenders in SV% and is a serious contender for rookie of the year. As a user Ace is a long time SHL veteran and the very person who brought me over to this wonderful site. Mike Hroch was the backup for the Wolfpack this year and his user Jabs seems to keeping up with the updates, earning adequate TPE and figures to be the long term back up in New England.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - They straight up told me they weren't drafting a goalie but who can blame them

Tampa Bay Barracuda  Barracuda

Currently on the Barracuda roster they have Tobias Lindeman (@dynamite) and Benjamin Blue (@"BoucherFan12") up in Tampa and then Jerry Huuveri (@Jerppu) sitting in their prospect pool. Benjamin Blue started for Tampa last year but he will not be there next year as he's retired after a hell of a career. Tobias Lindeman backed him up last year but his user dynamite has been inactive for quite some time now and I'm sure will be dumped as soon as possible. Jerry Huuveri started last season for the Colorado Raptors and although his user Jerppu is considered inactive right now, he has shown in the past to be a TPE earner and could very well come back and be a force to be reckon with eventually.

Final Ranking: 5 out of 5 - With their longtime starter retiring and no for sure replacement (although Jerry very well could end up being) they could definitely be looking to draft a goalie.

Toronto North Stars Stars

Right now in Toronto they have Harry Carpet (@Carpy48) and Monty Montgomery (@CapMonty) with Scoochie Stratton (@honkerrs) sitting in their prospect pool. Harry Carpet started for the North Stars last season and has been for the past 7 seasons. Regression should start creeping on Carpet soon but his user Carpy48 is an absolute stud and has done a fantastic job earning TPE to fight it off for as long as possible. Monty Montgomery backed up Carpet last season but as his user CapMonty has been inactive basically since he started I'm sure he will be moved on from as soon as possible. Scoochie Stratton started for the Anchorage Armada this last season and had a potential MVP type year for them. Scoochie's user honkerrs has been doing a fantastic job with his player, earning a ton of TPE, while having a more then healthy bank account.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - Carpet is still going to be their man for a few years but Stratton will be there soon. Would be super suprised if they targeted a goalie.

Western Conference

Calgary Dragons  Dragons

The Dragons have Kata Vilde (@BarnabasCollins) and Elle Rush (@slothfacekilla) sitting up in Calgary while Keisuke Suzuki (@rieksts) and Cale Amundsen (@Wally) sit in their prospect pool. Kata Vilde is the Dragons longtime starter just finishing up his 12th year in Calgary. Regression should definitely be starting to hit him hard but his user BarnabasCollins has done a great job earning TPE to keep Vilde relevant for at least another season or 2. Backing him up is Elle Rush who is a 5th year player who unfortunately user SlothFaceThrilla went inactive a while ago and won't be making much of an impact going forward. Cal Amundsen currently plays for the Newfoundland Berserkers and just had an outstanding season in the SMJHL. His user Wally is doing a pretty good job updating and training his player and looks to make his way to Calgary sooner then later. Keisuke Suzuki was the back up in Maine in the SMJHL last year and while his user rieksts has been somewhat active, he hasn't earned TPE at that great of a rate yet but that could still change.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - While Kata is facing regression they have a solid option waiting for them in the Newfoundland. Would be somewhat suprised to see them draft a goalie.

Edmonton Blizzard  Blizzard

In net for the Blizzard there is Emiko Spector (@Emiko) and Eddy Ask Jr. (@Ask) up on the main roster while Peter Ramsey (@Hoovuh) sits in the prospect pool. Emiko Spector started for the Blizzard last season and her user Emiko is an active user who keeps her player updated and trained. Although S56 will be 10th season in the league there's no doubt she will Edmonton's starter for the next little while. Eddy Ask Jr. was the back up in Edmonton this year and his user Ask has been inactive for quite some time now. Peter Ramsey was the 42nd overall pick in the S55 SHL Entry Draft and started for the Kelowna Knights this last season. Ramsey's user Hoovuh has a great bank account and has been doing a good job earning TPE and updating his player.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - Similar to the situation in Calgary, have a veteran who has a few more years left in her player and good prospect just waiting to take the reins. Would be somewhat surprised to see them draft a goalie.

Los Angeles Panthers Panthers

On the Panther's main roster there is Knox Booth (@Tate) and Nolan McMahon (@Reynolds) while they currently have no goaltending prospects. Knox Booth started for the Panthers this last season and is currently in his 8th year. Booth's user Tate has been absolutely stellar in the earning TPE department and looks like he is not slowing down any time soon. Nolan McMahon was the back up and is definitely a solid back up but his user Reynolds hasn't updated in a while and that's what his player shall remain.

Final Rankings: 3 out of 5 - While they definitely have a seasoned starter and set for the next few seasons at least, they could be interested in targeting a goalie to eventually take over for Booth

Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs

The Minnesota Chiefs currently have Markus Tegernako (@KlusteR) and Kasperi Braulin (@TheFlash) on their main roster while Separa Borro (@Lyezech) sits waiting in their prospect pool. Minnesota's starter this last year was Markus Tegernako whose playing in his 5th year for the Chiefs and 4th as starter. Markus' user KlusterR is a very active with a site job and a heavy TPE earner. The Chiefs' net is Tegernako's for the foreseeable future. Kasperi Braulin backed up Tegernako in Minnesota this year which will be his last year as Braulin has decided to hang up the skates. Braulin's user TheFlash has already created his new player and should be on the look out for the S56 SMJHL draft. Separa Borro started for the Anaheim Outlaws of the SMJHL last year and his user Lyezech is a talented graphics creator and has done an alright job earning TPE.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - While they are going to need to replace Braulin for next year, Borro could be that guy. I'd be surprised if they targeted a goalie in the draft.

New Orleans Specters  Specters

Currently on the Specters roster they have Aleister Cain (@SlashACM) and Olli Saarinen Jr (@prettyburn) while they don't have any goaltending prospects in their pool. Aleister Cain was New Orleans starting goaltender last year and has been since being taken 1st overall in the S45 expansion draft. His user SlashACM is another stud of a user knowing exactly how to earn bank and TPE for his player. Olli Saarinen Jr was New Orleans back up goalie last season and his user prettyburn is yet another stud keeping his player updated and a good amount of TPE and money in the bank.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - Aleister Cain probably only has another season or 2 in hiim but Olli Saarinen Jr is right there to take the starting gig from him - They could target a goalie to eventually back up Saarinen Jr but I'd imagine it won't be a big priority.

San Francisco Pride pride

Right now on San Francisco's main roster there is Geezus Kryyst (@Narconis) and Cillian Kavanagh (@takethehorizon) while Nicolae Antonescu (@Rancidbudgie) is sitting waiting in the prospect pool. Geezus Kryyst is a veteran whose just played his 15th season and his user Narconis has been inactive for a little over a month now and I'm sure when/if he comes back Kryyst will be retiring soon. The Pride's back up was Cillian Kavanagh who played his first season in the SHL after having a 4 year career in the juniors for Kelowna. Cillian's user takethehorizon is another class act who knows how to earn TPE and seems to be a very talented graphics creator as well. Antonescu started last year for the St. Louis Scarecrows and his user Rancidbudgie is a very active member of the site with a big ole bank account and the ambition to earn lots of TPE.

Final Ranking: 1 out of 5 - They definitely seem set it net right now and in the future. Would be seriously suprised to see them target a goalie in the draft.

Seattle Argonauts Argonauts

If you want you can re read what I wrote about Atlanta, because the same thing applies here in Seattle.

Final Ranking: 5 out of 5 - Until they acquire players in the expansion draft, everybody is on their radar.

Texas Renegades Renegades

Down in Texas they have White Goodman (@Jearim) and Patrick Niederreiter (@DieselJ) on their main roster while they don't currently have any goaltending prospects. White Goodman started for the Renegades last year and looks to continue to be for years to come. Goodman's user Jearim is my current GM in Nevada and an amazing user, GM and person. Backing him up in Texas was Patrick Niederreiter whose entering his 9th season and user DieselJ hasn't been active in sometime.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - While they definitely could use a goalie prospect, this is Goodman's team and shall continue to be so. They might target a goalie late in the draft but could easily hold off a season or 2.

Winnipeg Jets Jets

Winnipeg has Strom Chamberlain (@Geekusoid) and Steven Vassallo (@libertines) sitting on their main roster while Richard Majors (@Hefe4711) is in their pool of prospects. Starting for the Jets was Strom Chamberlain which was his first year as starter after playing as the Jets back up the year prior. Stom's user Geekusoid is current co-gm of the Jets and looks to be an all-star of a user. Steven Vassollo was Winnipeg's back up last year and his user libertines has been inactive for quite sometime and will result in Vassollo being moved on from sooner then later. Richard Majors spent the season as the back up in St. Louis. Richard's user Hefe4711 has gone inactive so unless he comes back he is probably too far behind other goalie prospects in TPE.

Final Ranking: 2 out of 5 - While it does appear they are going to need some sort of goaltending prospect eventually, this is and will be Chamberlain's team for quite the time so any goalie they target will have to live in his shadow.

Note* This Rankings do not indicate my prefence on where I end up, I will be happy where ever I end up.

Good writeup. One major wrinkle is that NOLA, MIN, and MAN all have one of their relevant goalies (Cain, Borro, Beibitzhanov) exposed in expansion. That could quickly shift some of those team's focus on goaltending (mostly for NOLA and MIN if they lose their starter/only prospect, respectively)
