Newfoundland Berserkers Game Reactions for Day 19

Pregame Coverage: After a great two game stretch the Zerks look to get out there and take it to Quebec City and Colorado in a two game series. Quebec is no longer the number one team in the J but they are still quite solid but now

Game 44: Quebec City Citadelles

We’ve done very well against Quebec City this season considering they are the 3rd best team in the J. We’ve won 3 out of 5 and that continued today in our 3-2 victory over the Owls. A really solid game from the Zerks that we can all be proud of.

Solid Zerk Performances in this game, including the captain Vaseline Podcalzone who scored a goal and an apple. After weeks of not being able to appear on the scoreboard at all, to see him having a multi point game is a thrill. The blue line was on fire this game. Billy Brooks had a goal and played really solid D. Pasta the Turtle had an apple, as well as 2 blocked shots, 2 hits and 2 giveaways. Well done. Then Matty Sandeen had a goal to top it off. In the end one rose above the others.

Zerk of the Game goes to: Pasta the Turtle because his performance elevated the team to the victory ultimately. He was the difference and he had an incredible performance. It’s so exciting to think since he’s just a rookie and we have so many seasons yet with Pasta and we can’t wait to see more of him.

Game 45: Colorado Raptors

An infuriating game for both sides since at the end of 60 minutes it was 0-0 but the Zerks were dominant. Outshooting colorado by nearly 2:1 after 60. By the end of overtime Yarno Rosejac had stopped all 41 shots he faced. The game was seemingly over and we felt like we were being robbed again. But then Sandeen…

Normally we talk about the notable Zerk performances but this time we’re going to talk about how this happened. There’s a little under 10 seconds left on the clock when Slavakov Vladimirashenko lays a massive hit on Ruggs McOoooh that forced a lose puck. Bas then took possession of the puck and sends it into the corner to Dwayne Gretzky whom skates around behind the net where he finds the streaking defender Matty Sandeen between the circles wide open. Gretz make the pass to where Sandeen will be and Matty Sandeen snipes the puck into the back of the net with just two seconds left on the clock and the game is over. With the way Sandeen was shoved into the corner, surrounded by his teammates in warm embrace, you would’ve thought they’d just won the Four Star Cup. One of the greatest hockey moments in any of their lives and everyone just felt so alive that night. The Zerks celebrated under the umbrella of Matty Sandeen’s brilliance, feeling so proud to call him their teammate and being so proud to be a Zerk.

Game 46: Colorado Raptors

at Newfoundland Berserkers

Game 2 of the Colorado at Newfoundland series and it was a much more lowkey affair than game 1. The Zerks cruised to a 4-1 victory with rookie sensation Evgeni Petrov in net.

Lots of solid performances in this game including Dwayne Gretzky who had 3 takeaways and a goal. Massive two way performance from the physical winger. Ric Charlesworth was dominant in the forecheck and with the puck on his stick. Scoring a goal and an apple while racking up 4 hits. I also want to mention Evgeni Petrov for another phenomenal performance to add to his rookie campaign. Stopping 12 of 13 shots and just showing these SHL GMs that he is THE TOP GOALIE in the upcoming draft.

Zerk of the Game however goes to: Sabaro Torretta for his fantastic performance at the blue line. Playing good defense and going +3 while scoring a goal and notching an apple. When you get a performance like that out of a rookie dman it gets the whole team going. Well done!
