With most of the offseason stuff out of the way, there is still one important item that needs to be wrapped up before the inaugural season of the Regina Elk begins, and that is the announcement of our first captains!
It is with great honour that I have been selected to make this announcement in spite of the fact that I only joined this league a mere week ago. It is still preseason and no matches of true importance have been played, yet I am very pleased at how quickly this team has accepted and helped familiarize me and some of the other new members with this league and the team. This was made possible by the great group of people that make up this roster which, although it includes many rookies such as myself, certainly has no shortage of leadership qualities to go around. That brings me to the players that have, to this point, demonstrated their own leadership qualities to the group and have really separated themselves as standouts to the many personalities of this team. I am very proud to announce the first captains in Regina Elk history! Starting with our newest captain... Captain - Daud Ramza (@Blasoon) After being selected with Regina’s first pick of the S60 expansion draft, it should come as no surprise that the first member of the Regina Elk will also become the team’s first captain. This is not the first time Ramza was selected early in a draft, as they were selected 11th overall by the Carolina Kraken in the S58 SMJHL draft, only to be chosen with the 5th pick of the SHL draft a season later by the Seattle Argonauts. After a few productive seasons with the Kraken, including scoring 52 points in S60, Ramza will be heading to Regina to lead a young roster in their very first season. Assistant Captain - Sam Siege (@EsAmYk) Joining Ramza in the leadership group as an assistant captain is Sam Siege, chosen with the 10th pick of the expansion draft. One of the most active members of the Regina Elks locker room, this player has done an exceptional job so far at welcoming the new rookies of the team, myself included. First chosen 45th in S60 by the Nevada Battleborn they were eventually drafted this season as the 49th pick in the SHL draft by the Minnesota Monarchs before being picked up by the Elk after just one season in Nevada. Assistant Captain - Jaeger Jones (@Thunder39) Rounding out the captains is Jaeger Jones who will also be given the ‘A’. All the way from Germany, this player had the honour of being the first ever entry draft selection for the Elk after being picked 7th overall by the team this season. A jack of all trades on the ice, this player is a true leader off it. They will be leading the emerging young core that the Elks will try to build their team around. Look for them to have a big impact right out of the gate. I have no doubt that these players will excel in their newly given positions with the Elk and I look forward to seeing how they will lead our group in our first season!
