[Double Media] Draft Review: Montreal Patriotes
#1
(This post was last modified: 10-27-2021, 10:05 AM by brickwall35.)

Time to bank in on double media and learn a little about my fellow Patriot draftees! In this article, I will be detailing all of the picks made by Montreal in the S62, providing some information about each player and user. So without further ado:

6th overall - Zayne Dangle - LD - @Vaxlare

Vax was one of the many active rookies the mock draft thread, and I've already enjoyed sharing a locker room with him, and it's only been 3 days! Vaxlare brings a solid bank of nearly $21 million to the table, mostly coming from weekly graphics, but also from an occasional article.

Zayne Dangle sports an impressive 319 TPE as of the draft, and will assuredly reach the sophomore cap of 350 well before the season starts, if he hasn't already. Dangle is a well balanced defenseman, having a ton of offensive and defensive skill. Last year in the J, Zayne put up 24 points in 66 games, and managed to have an average time on ice of 17 minutes on a strong COL team. Not bad for a rookie. I expect even better numbers next season.

7th overall - Ben Jammin - LD - @"James Truong"

The absolute worst pick of the draft... just kidding. When not being accosted by JayWhy in the mock thread draft, James provided great insight, as well as tons of emojis. James has already shown himself to be a supportive teammate, at least when he's not being cheeky. Unfortunately, James only brings a pauper's worth of bank to the table, a measly $91 million. Does this guy earn any money at all? As the first recreate picked up by MTL this draft, James brings plenty of experience to what will be a young locker room.

Ben Jammin, like Dangle, comes to the Pats with a well rounded build. Jammin put up 30 points on a resilient Kelowna team, and was just under the 20 minute mark for average time on ice. On the ice, Ben can definitely shift the pace of the game, as his physical play rewarded him with the 5th spot among defensemen for penalty minutes this past season. At 323 TPE as of the draft, Jammin will be capped well before the season begins, and is a lock to keep earning as the next few seasons roll on.

18th overall - Brick Wall - G - IT'S ME AUSTIN, IT WAS ME ALL ALONG, AUSTIN!

Oh boy is it time to toot my own horn? One of two goalies taken in the 1st round, it is tough to fault Winnipeg for taking OrbitingDeath over me. He simply has wayyyy more experience and a much, much, much, much, much fatter back account than I do. That being said, Montreal has definitely found their goalie of the future. I'm already clogging up the locker room and pestering people into conversations. I hope to achieve many things with this club. Much like Great Falls, this is a young, building team, and with great management, both are poised to have a bright future!

Brick Wall didn't post any amazing stats in his rookie season, but he did prove he could handle a big lo-....could manage a grueling schedule. Brick played the most games out of any goalie in the league, impressive for a rookie goalie. Brick was a little bit behind in TPE as of the draft, at 313, but is quickly catching up and will be capped at 350 with the next update. Max earning goalies that stay active don't come around every season, so Montreal definitely made a good call for the future with this pick.

28th overall - Gordie Goodenough - C - @MDavidson

MDavidson, a name I wasn't all that familiar with before, is now one that I can't forget, because of the awesome and unique graphics they bring to the table! The 3rd first gen snagged by Montreal in the draft, MD has already carved a niche for themselves with their great graphics, and a solid $11 million in the bank. Not quite as loud mouthed as myself or James, MD brings a quieter presence to the locker room, but that's okay. Too many jackasses causes any locker room to stink up.

Gordie Goodenough brings terrific defense to the table as a strong two-way center. Goodenough had a fairly mediocre first season, putting up 16 points, but it's hard to judge that too strongly when he only averaged 14 minutes of ice time a game. I'm expecting a breakout season in his sophomore campaign, as Gordie sports 323 TPE as of the draft and will be another capped player in the Patriotes prospect pool.

32nd overall - Marek Skoda - LW - @Off

Montreal brings in the first of the Skoda duo at pick 32. Off is only the 2nd recreate taken by Montreal through 5 picks, but as far as I know, both Off and James are on their first recreate. So still youthful! Off is probably most well known for his presence in the SHL Games Discord, where he's heavily active and involved in running boardgame nights! Off isn't the most active on the forums, sporting a bank account of just $3 million, but I still expect Off to earn well and keep his player high earning.

Marek Skoda had an impressive rookie campaign with Carolina, netting 35 points despite only averaging 14 minutes a game, almost entirely 5 on 5. Marek is strong power forward, bringing a physical edge that Montreal will surely need in the coming years. At 285 TPE, Marek is slighly behind his fellow draftees, but should still be capped at 350 before too long. I'm expecting an even better season this year from him!

33rd overall - Malach Skoda - RW - @ImShiny

And the brothers are reunited! Just like Off, anyone who has ever stepped foot in the Gaming server knows Shiny. The Montreal locker room is sure to be the gaming hot spot for any potential players looking to have place to hang out outside of SHL and FHM. Like Off, Shiny is on his first recreate as well. Shiny has a bit more in the bank, with nearly $6 million, but will need to be more active with media if he hopes to fatten that up.

Malach Skoda has a similar build to his brother, perhaps a bit more balanced and well rounded. Malach posted 24 points in his rookie campaign, lagging slightly behind his brother, with an average time on ice of 15 minutes. At 265 TPE, it will be tough for Malach to reach the sophomore cap any time soon, but there's still plenty of time to improve his game with a KEL squad that only looks to get better. Malach might also have a bit of a chip on his shoulder to encourage him, well with his brother getting bragging rights for being picked first. Time will tell.

43rd overall - Connor O'Byrne - C - @unconfident69

Coming into the draft, I hadn't interacted much with unconfident, but he's proven himself to be an active presence in the locker room already! Another first gen, unconfident has managed to accumulate a decent bank account of nearly $8 million without too much in the way of media, all while still earning well TPE-wise. An active user with solid TPE, unconfident was definitely a steal at this point in the draft.

Connor O'Byrne keeps of the trend of well balanced forwards for Montreal. In his rookie season, O'Byrne put up 28 points on a struggling Anaheim squad, which actually ranked 4th on the team. Teammate Eddie Creller may have overshadowed O'Byrne a bit, but his numbers weren't too far off from the 13th overall pick, at least offensively. Defensively, O'Byrne was much stronger, leading the team in blocked shots and ranked in the top 3 on the team in hits. Coming into the draft with 311 TPE, O'Byrne should be another capped player in the Patriotes prospect pool. I think Montreal got an absolute hidden gem in Connor O'Byrne, and I expect to see him jump to the first round in the eventual "S62 redraft" post(s).

47th overall - Vadim Askerov - RD - @Serpe x 13

With another 3rd round pick, Montreal finally brings in a vet, a LONGTIME vet, in Serpe. Joining the SHL back in 2012, Serpe is now on player number three who knows, with long careers as Charlie Serpe and Victor Fedorov, and I believe is a member of the Triple Gold Club. Serpe isn't the most talkative person in the locker room (which I know get the pleasure of sharing two with him), but he's not the quietest either. Serpe brings a fun, easy going presence to the locker room, as well as a ton of experience. Oh, and let's not forget the $36 million he's got sitting in the bank.

Vadim Askerov brings a good mix of offense and defense to the table. Askerov put up a solid 28 points in his inaugural season, and played an impressive 20 minutes per game as a rookie, good enough for 3rd on the Great Falls squad. At 276 TPE, Askerov isn't quite max earning, but with plenty of money for training, he should still be able to reach the sophomore cap. A definite great addition for Montreal at this late in the draft.

50th overall - Alicia Melchiott - @Emiko

I really wish I could have gotten the chance to get to know you, especially after seeing how much everyone adored you on the site. Rest in Peace Emi, we love you!

There you have it folks! All in all an absolutely fantastic draft by Montreal. These prospects will need a couple of seasons at a minimum to grow into SHL caliber players, but the future looks bright for the Montreal! I look forward to watching how we all grow! Luckily, this gives me a better reason to branch out and pay attention to more than just what's going on in Great Falls. I'll be keeping an eye on everyone! Can't wait for the next season to start, and I am excited to call myself a Patriote!

Truth be told, Winnipeg's choice was a lot closer then you might think Brick Smile If it wasn't for Bayley being there, I think they would have taken you over me ^
