A Look Back at S50 (2x media)

I saw someone else did a review of another draft and "Where are they now" sort of thing and I thought this could be fun from my first draft group. S50 was a reddit draft and I, like many others, found SHL on r/hockey and thought I would give it a shot. Never heard of sim leagues before and thought it may be a fun fantasy hockey sort of thing.
But with the change to FHM in S53, the index will only go back that far. That being said - most players were called up S53 or later so I do not think I lost much here without the index showing S52 and below, but it is possible. Edit: Found that the arson bot will give me more. So I'll start with a player recap from the top of the draft until I get tired of doing this and someone tells me to mark this ready for grading: 1. Winnipeg Jets (via Hamilton Steelhawks) - D - Adam Barron With an extremely strong pick, the jets pulled in D man Adam Barron. Barron has had a hell of a career and is still active (as of S67) and contributing quality ice time across 976 regular season games. He has the distinction of being part of the 2k TPE club (max 2127) and has proven himself as a very good use of pick #1. Adam spent 4 seasons with Winnipeg before going to Toronto where he spent most of his career (6 seasons in his prime), then did 3 seasons with Baltimore, and then one at Atlanta (where he got his first cup) and one at his current home of San Francisco. When you look back at the leaders of S50 from then until now, the boards are littered with Adam Barron. Among D men, he is first in points (595), first in Goals (164) second in Assists (431), fourth in Plus/Minus (304), first in shots (2889), fourth in blocks (1492), third in games played (926), and first in power play points (143). That is a hell of a career if I have ever seen one. 2. Texas Renegades - F - Ivan Maximus And we go from one of the best picks of the draft straight into one of the worst. Yours truly here was 2nd overall pick from Texas. Maximus went IA in S55, with an update in S58, and another in S60 before retiring with a meager 451 games played in regular season. I can not blame Texas here for the pick though, I had a number of site jobs, a solid bank account, and was a high end earner before flaming out. Maximus was with TEX for 5 seasons, then spent 2 in Baltimore, before his final season ended in Edmonton at 1231 applied TPE. There are no records to speak of by Maximus and no stats worth sharing so lets move on. 3. San Francisco Pride - F - Henrik Lekberg Osterman Now we jump right back into another awesome contributor to the S50 class. HLO is known all over the league and has also achieved the 2k trophy (max 2006 TPE). He's still putting in work for San Francisco to this day and has played 926 regular season games with the fanchise. It is impressive to have a player spend 14+ seasons with a single team and really shows both his and the team's commitment to each other. HLO also has quite a few different slots on the leader boards for this class. He's 4th in points (696), third in Assists (468). When you filter down to forwards only he also leads the class at PIM (394) and blocks (1182). Unfortunately, in that time SFP hasn't had a cup, but HLO has really put forth a solid career with them. 4. Toronto North Stars - F - Bobby Lane Bobby was called up to Toronto in S52 and stayed with them through S62 and joined Los Angeles for his final 3 seasons and played a total of 844 regular season games in his career. He actually switched from F to D in his final season where he won the cup with LAP. Lane is the 3rd of the the 4 we have gone through that has hit the 2k mark (max 2130) and he stayed at that level for 4 seasons which is very impressive. Granted, this is harder now as regression is tougher earlier, but it still shows his ability to earn throughout the seasons. Bobby is 3rd overall in points in the S50 class (700), 4rd in goals (291), and first in power play points (171). 5. Chicago Syndicate - F - Ryan Shepard With Chicago's first pick of the draft they chose center Ryan Shepard. Shepard spent almost his entire career with CHI with last season as his first not wearing the black and yellow with Baltimore. Shepard put in 926 games and leads the S50 draft class in total points (812), second in goals (302), first in assists (510), first in shots (3023), and third in power play points (148). Here is yet another early pick that stayed in for the long haul and has fought off regression with all his might. Shepard maxed out at 2015 TPE and got 2 cups with CHI (s57 and S64). Yet another stellar career for the S50 forward. 6. Buffalo Stampede (via Minnesota Chiefs) - D - Agustus Wang Wang played 12 seasons during his tenure in the SHL exclusively with Buffalo across 728 games. He is yet another S50 player who broke the 2k TPE mark (2032) and was a great grab by Buffalo at #6. While he holds no S50 leader board spots, he put up 518 points and finished his career with a +391. He also had over 500 hits (508) and 938 blocks while playing the blue line. Wang also brough home 2 cups with Buffalo (S55 and S60) and has made multiple lists of the best defensemen in the past 15 seasons. 7. Los Angeles Panthers - D - Disisde Dayudie With Los Angeles's first of 2 picks in a row, they chose Dayudie. Clearly they were not worried about having someone on the ice that that threatening death to everyone else, or maybe it made him a better d-man. The 6'1" blue liner put in 3 seasons in the big leagues with the Panthers before being moved to Chicago to spend the next 10 seasons before hanging up his skates. Dayudie played 794 regular season games, was +479 +/-, and put up a monster 1123 hits and 1108 blocks. Code: Not ready for grading. Theoretically I'll update this with more before 2x media ends. ![]() Registered Cool guy ![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() Registered Posting Freak |
