S7: Failure not an option for Derringer
#1

Interview After an incredible cup run that ended in a heart-breaking defeat in game 7 against the Panthers, Kyle Derringer has taken a good hard look at the year and has given us some insight into his plans for season 7.

A lot of people pegged us for a joke after our debut season when we registered a league worst record. There were people that though we had no chance to even make a playoff appearance for several more years. I think we made a name for ourselves last year absolutely, but we also raised the bar.

Interview Kyle is referring to the legacy the Chiefs must now live up to. After making it all the way to the seventh game of the finals, the Chiefs have overcome their adversity, and now are going to be a team that won't be taken so lightly.

We definitely surprised people last year, but we're not done yet. As the team Captain, it takes a big toll on you personally when you lead your team to the finals just to fall short. I don't want to fail again, so I'm not going to let that be an option. I'll be doing everything I can to help our team win it all this year, and I know the rest of the guys are willing to do the same.

Derringer and the Chiefs got far last season, but not quite far enough

Interview When asked about his team's draft and off-season, Kyle had nothing but good things to say about the team's acquisitions.

We got some great new talent. Some really solid young guys up front, and people that know what it takes to win. Even going into our third year since becoming a team, we're still probably one of, if not the youngest team out there. We might not have the experience that some of the other teams have in their lineups, but we definitely know what we're capable of - the skill is there. We've probably got one of the deepest and most active teams in the league, and that's something that really shows. We were a good team last year, now we're even deadlier with more depth.

Interview Finally, Kyle was asked to comment on the team's future.

The future is very, very bright. Our core players are still very young. Even guys from our first season's draft still have a good few years before age is even going to start to affect us. We're just going to keep getting better each year. We're definitely going to be one of the teams to beat this year and that's not even a question. As for myself, I'll be an UFA by the end of the year so I'm hoping we can get something worked out, I have a lot of hockey left in me.

Derringer was a Blazer. Blazers don't fail. Blazers don't even know how to fail if they tried.
