Round 1, Pick 8: D Guy Incognito

With their first pick in the S72 Draft, the Regina Elk went with the two-way defender Guy Incognito. The only surprise with this pick was that Guy was even available when Regina was on the clock. The Elk just had their number 1 defender called up to the SHL so they had a big hole on the back end that they are hoping can be filled by Incognito. The Canadian defender has plans to be elite at both ends of the ice and become a leader on the blue line. The Elk hit a home run getting a player of Incognito's caliber at pick 8.

Round 2, Pick 17: C Bobby Tkachuky

This player was immediately traded to the Yukon Malamute for a S72 4th round pick and a S73 first round pick.

Round 2, Pick 21: LW Mac Turner

With their second pick in the second round, the Elk took the hard-hitting, defensive forward Mac Turner. Adding depth behind a strong first line was the next priority for the Regina Elk and they did just that with the drafting of Turner. The plan for Turner is clear. Clear space for your line mates, crash the net, and pot in any rebound coming off the opposing goaltender. He's going to be the workhorse of the forward group and should become a valuable asset to the team in his rookie season. Mac Turner can easily out-perform his draft position after seeing his training and development first hand.

Round 3, Pick 35: C Red Panda

Continuing to build out their forward core, the Elk drafted centre Red Panda in the third round. You can never have enough depth at the centre position and the Elk are hoping to create a strong rotation down the middle. Red Panda brings a solid two-way play style on the ice. Early indication is having Red Panda centring his fellow rookie Turner on the third line. That line is going be a tough, grinding defensive unit that will out-work and tire the opposing players matched up against them. The Elk are clearly hoping that Panda can grow into a shut down centre.

Round 4, Pick 49: LW Hank Falcon

This late in the draft is when you starting throwing darts hoping to hit something. The Elk threw their dart and landed on winger Hank Falcon. It's safe to say this dart did not hit the board. After no showing training camp, Falcon lost his spot on the Regina Elk and is not even in the lineup. A swing and a miss.

Round 4, Pick 55: D Tiko Menhir

With their last dart of the draft, the Elk went back to the blue line to draft Tiko Menhir. The Elk had one more opening on the back end and needed a body to fill that spot. Hoping Menhir could become even a small steal this late hasn't materialized. Lacking bodies, Menhir at least cracked the Elk roster, but with the signing of defender Jasper Wahls in free agency, Menhir's time with the Elk will be short lived.
