This is my first season in the league and I was excited for my first regular season game. My player Mauga was picked up by Kelowna as a free agent. The Knights first regular season game came Oct 4th against the Great Falls Grizzlies.
As it was on the road in Great Falls, it would be a tough way to open the season away from our fans in Kelowna. Luckily Blant Chorski scored about 6 minutes into the first period for us Knights to give us an early lead. The Grizzlies didn't back down though and managed to tie the game up before the end of the first with a great goal by Gordan-William Gibbles. We headed into the 2nd period all tied up and needing someone to give us a spark. Both goalies stood on their head in the 2nd period as both Sieve for Kelowna and Kavanagh for the Grizzlies played very well. No goals were scored and we headed into the final period still tied 1-1. Wit only 22 seconds off the clock KELBOT3 scored a beauty shot on a rebound and we are now up 2-1 with over 19 minutes left against Great Falls. The lead didn't last long as B.Strongstick scored and the game was now 2-2. Next up was a big moment for Mauga as I got my first point in the SMJHL. Jasmin Quevillon scored after I slid a pass over to her in the slot. It was to take the lead 3-2 and quieted the crowd a bit. The lead lasted less than 30 seconds as WonderBread scored for the Grizzlies and just like that it's 3-3. We needed our stars to step up and finish this for us and they did just that. Activity Check scored the game winner with assists by IceCreamBar and Durkburg on a late powerplay. This put the Knights up 4-3 and Sieve our goalie shut the door the rest of the way leading to a great win. It felt amazing for Kelowna to win our first game of the year and we were hoping we could go on a win streak to come out of the gates hot this year. It's been a bit of a rough go though after this game. The three stars of the first game were: 1. Kelowna: Jasmin Quevillon: One goal and One hit. Played under 13 minutes but made it count 2. Great Falls: J.Barron: 2 assists and 2 hits for the Grizzlies. Very strong performance but not enough to carry. 3. Kelowna: Blant Chorski: 1 goal and 1 hit. Scored the first goal of the Knights season and got the win started out right. Whoever scores the first goal in hockey wins more often. The goalie performances were: For Kelowna Five-Hole Sieve saved 18 of 21 shots against. .860 sv%. Not great but he shut it down late in the 3rd when it mattered. For Great Falls Beau Kavanagh saved 26/30. .870 sv%. Not good enough for the first game of the year. He will need to get better but he has so much time. Everyone is getting the rust out early. Mauga finished with 1 assist and 1 hit in my first game. I was very happy with our team game and the fact I was able to get a point early. Great game Great Falls. Thanks for the epic battle and cheers to many more in the future.
