(GRADED) Deep Dive #2 - Quarterly review of QCC
#1
(This post was last modified: 12-18-2023, 03:56 AM by Scrufdaddy. Edited 1 time in total.)

20 games have come and gone and QCC sits comfortably atop the entire J with an impressive 33 points, they have already accrued nearly half the win total from the entire last season, with a strong finish they should easily break that number. So what are the keys to success from last years measly 7th place finish to this years 1st place start?

4th Line:
The big change happening to the J this season was the addition of a 4th line, this completely changed the dynamic and would reward deeper teams, this made the draft and waiver period possibly the most important in J history. Where most teams are running 2 bots, QCC only has 1. The waiver signing of Supah Dupah after the draft has made 4th line defense better but it certainly didn't move the needle too much, the actual difference maker was the trade that brought Bog Damsel to the Owls, this has made QCC's 4th line a strong suit on the team and, in some games, a difference maker.

Goalie Tandem:
After losing Net Man to retirement, QCC came into the season relying on two rookie goalies, Song Ju-Gong and Lukas Konecny, a disaster waiting to happen, right? Wrong. Song Ju-Gong has not only been the best rookie goalie but one of the best goalies in the league and Lukas has been far more than serviceable as a backup. Song and Lukas are both on the Wins leaderboard, Lukas is first on the GAA leaderboard, Song in third. Both on the leaderboard of goals saved above average, I could keep going but the point is made.

The Solbergs:
The sibling duo of Froya Solberg and Sonja Solberg are tied in points, both with 22. The effect they have on the ice is apparent from any point of view but the locker room is something that not all get to see, they are both great forces in helping and advising for QCC. The ability to have both of these great players is a gift that all Owls appreciate.

Juan Tymer:
Juan has been a phenomenal defensive player this year, as was the same in S73 but they have also seen a good improvement in the offensive department as well. Juan finished last year with 22 points, certainly not terrible for a defensive defensemen but this year they have already reached 12 points in just 20 games. That means all they need to do is net 10 more points in 46 games to reach their last year point total, I'll put my money on them breaking that number.

Only time will tell if QCC's reign over the J will last the whole season and through the playoffs but this team has the pieces needed to be the best and they are absolutely ready for it. Vibes are good in the locker room especially after a crucial 7-0 defeat of the Colorado Raptors. Upcoming games against Maine will get a good look at what this team is made of.
