Lucas Raymond
Can He Return to Form and Surprise Everyone?
IT WAS A NORMAL SKATE in mid July when Raymond’s off season training took a turn for the worse. One bad edge that caught the perfect divot in the ice which sent him off balance and head first into the boards. In that split second it went from one of his most important off season’s before the draft to one with question marks of if he would ever lace them up again. The end result of a fractured T3 and T4 vertebra and missing the spinal cord by a narrow margin of 2 millimeters. In a day of bad news, there was light at the end of the tunnel, a prognosis of a full recovery, but would take some work to adapt. Days turned to weeks, which eventually turned to months, but Raymond made his way back through Rehab and into the gym. The final step was getting back on the ice and shaking off the rust of all the time missed. There are some critics in the hockey world that do not think its possible and there will be a lot of questions for Raymond to answer this season especially after missing the draft, but his spirits remain high.
“I knew it would be a long way back and a battle, but I’m not even close to done fighting yet.”
With preseason about to get under way Raymond is looking to make his first big step back into competitive hockey after watching his career almost dissipate before his eyes.
