Hello again everyone, it is time to line up my second Deep dive.  In my first installment I decided to give my entry into the league as a whole and how I found that experience.  With Dive number two I am going to look at the recent history of the team that picked me up on waivers, The Quebec City Citadelles (QCC).  Hopefully, I will be here for a couple of season and help them make a run to another Cup run.  So, I figure I should familiarize myself with their recent history (S73-S77).

First how have they been doing overall record wise as a team.

S73 34-30-2  70 pts  1st Rd exit
S74 48-12-6  102 pts  Lost semi-finals
S75 51-12-3  105 pts  Lost semi-finals
S76 49-15-2   100 pts  S76 Champions
S77  35-30-1  71 pts  2nd Rd loss

ok, so first I didn't even realized I was picked up by the reigning champions.  I knew there was something special about this team from the get go.  Sadly, we could not preform up to those standards this time around.  But for the last five years it looks like they had  a steady climb to the top and then a slight decline this year.  Let's look at some of the team rankings next to see if there are major differences between the first/last and middle years.  First, I will focus on some of the main stats(the # in parenthesis is the league rank):

Year     GF         GA        PP%      PK%          GvA       TkA         FOW%
S73      282(3)   255(8)   23.0(3)  77.7(11)     553(1)   619(11)    44.9(last)
S74      272(5)   153(1)    22.(7)   83.4(1)       597(9)   511(last)  49.9(9)
S75 (not in index)
S76      293(2)    183(2)   25.6(2)  78.1(8)     645(14)   598(12)    50.4(9)
S77      233(7)    226(9)   19.5(12) 84.5(3)    610(6)     735(3)     48.6(11)

When we look at these number there is one thing that stands out in their three year run of 100 point seasons and their run to the championship and that is their Goals Against.  Also, their GvA are inverse to their good runs.  And it might not seem to make sense, but it does as I heard someone recently say to a newer player, the better teams  have the puck more and therefore more opportunity to give it away.  From these overall numbers it looks like we can conclude that the old saying of Defense wins championships is indeed true because whenever QCC had a shut down defense they went far into the playoffs.

And the team did have a core of players for that ride starting with:
G-Song Ju-Gong: S74 was their first full season and they won 30 games or more for 3 straight seasons until the currently on.  (S73-S77)
LD-Leo Roze: solid in defense with a high of +60 for the S74 campaign.  (S73-S76)
RD Juan Tymer: a high of +53 for S75  (S73-S76)
and just to highlight how a strong defense is a team effort, in their championship S76 run their leader in both +/- and blocks was C- Bog Damsel at 61 and 178 respectively. (S73-S76)

Now, a lot of that core has moved on and up, but I am looking to become a part of the next core of players to lead QCC to the Championship.

It may be rough being a rookie replacing a big class like the S74 QCC class, but I'm really happy and excited to see how you kids will surpass us alumni! <3
