Its draft season everyone, and the recent SHL draft has now passed. Recent draftees will be joining their new teams in the next couple of days, in no doubt it is an exciting time for both the players and the organizations. However, with todays in depth interview we are going to focus on a Seattle Argonauts draft pick. This player was drafted in the second round at the 30th pick, and would be the second pick of the draft for Seattle. Who’s the player you ask? Gordon McFisherman! McFisherman has had a quiet career compared to some other rookies, but we are going to dive into some questions with Gordon, and see what else we can find out about him. Thanks for joining us Gordon, we appreciate you taking the time. You’ve been quiet in the media front so far to this point, so thank you for taking the time for your first public interview with us. We know the Seattle fans are looking forward to finding out more about you and your personality.
[*]1) Tell us about draft night, were you with a big group of friends, and family following along with the draft? Were you on laptop live streaming a second hand feed? Did you even get to catch it at all? It must have been an exciting time when you first got that call saying you’ve been drafted to Seattle? Well, on the original draft stream I was on my laptop waiting for my family to come home. It was almost like serendipity that there were slight difficulties and the draft was moved a little later. My family came home and we gathered around the table for dinner and to see where I would go in the draft. I had some good chats with the scouts of several different clubs. In talking to them I was thining and hoping I would go early to mid second round. Seattle was one of the teams that I thought I had a real good experience with and was looking forward to possibly joining them. So, when I got the call a few minutes before the pick I immediately turned the draft onto our big screen TV. When my picture flashed across that screen my family went crazy, especially my little girl. She shouted there's daddy he is drafted he is drafted. It is just a crazy coincidence because just this week we were looking at our old picture books of our trips to Seattle. So, I am so happy to be coming to the upper northwest. [*]2) Now, when you eventually make the jump to Seattle from Quebec what are you most looking forward too? The quality of life will be much different just from a living stand point? Have you heard anything about Seattle? [*]Well, as I just alluded to I have visited Seattle on a few occasions. Do you really have to ask that question? Just look at me and my family name. My favorite two places are Pike Market place and being on a fishing boat early on the Puget Sound. I can't think of a better place for a McFisherman like me to have wound up. [*]3) Quebec is coming off an up and down season, how did you find the season from your view? Playing only 21 games, you had a unique look at the team. [*]Yes, I got picked up on waivers and so only had a very short time there so far. I think really the playoffs were a microcosm of our season as a whole. In the first rounds we played so well as a team and I felt I was finally contributing. It looked like maybe we could do something and make some noise. And then we ran into a wall in Vancouver and we were out in a flash. This was also a change over season for Quebec. Many of our core players that led us to sucess in the last few years had graduated to the majors so growing pains were in order. I look forward to leading them back to a championship and then coming to Seattle flying high. [*]4) The new season is right around the corner, what are your team goals with the Citadelles, and your personal goals for the season? I think it is safe to say you will take a step forward this season, and receive more ice time. You setting up any expectations for the season, or are you going to take it game by game? Well, I do think I have at least a season probably two to graow and help Quebec City to the places they want to go. I will take it one step at a time. I am looking to chip in with maybe 15-20 goals, but where I really need to improve is on the defensive end. I always took pride in being a outstanding two way player and I want to get back to that. I think being expesed in the playoff showed me I have a lot of hard work ahead of me. [*]5) To finish off the questions Gordon, we save the best for last. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would that meal be? Well, I am tempted to say the most versatile of fish the Salmon. But I have learned that it would be a very versatile meal of Pizza. You could top it anyway you want and then you have your four food groups bread cheese and meat. Umm not sure I always forget those veggies. Well Gordon, I want to thank you again for taking the time out on this busy and exciting knight to talk to us. Good luck to you in Quebec next year and we look forward to following you in Seattle soon. Yo know hearing you talk about your family and the fishing trade I think there is a part of our fanbase here in the northwest that would love to hear your story. Would you mind if we did an expose with you soon about the fishing life. Wow, there is besides Hockey nothing I like talking more about than fishing. IF you think your fans would be interested count me in. Well, you heard it here first, stayed to for a day in the life of a McFisherman. And again Gordon thank you and good luck.
