SMJHL HO Some Guy Living in Mountain Time
For the second time in a week (and his life), Chuck received a surprising phone call from the Carolina Kraken. The first phone call came on August 3, when Chuck was drafted 18 overall in the SMJHL draft by the Kraken. Chuck was thrilled and surprised but pleased with the team that selected him and couldn’t wait to get into the locker room and start helping the team win. See what Chuck had to say in the exclusive interview here.
Chuck took to the ice for his first pre-season in the SMJHL. In his first seven games wearing the coveted orange and black, Chuck struggled a bit. Posting a -4 plus/minus rating after 7 games. Chuck’s only offensive contribution came in the form of 3 apples. He did manage to tie for 7th for the most blocked shots. The most surprising part of his pre-season (at least for his agent) was his faceoffs. Chuck managed to go 1 for 6 in the category despite never having practiced a faceoff in his life. When asked about it after the games, Chuck vowed to become much better at faceoffs despite his role as a stay-at-home defenseman. The latest surprise for Chuck was announced earlier today when the Carolina Kraken announced their captains. Rightfully so, and to no one’s surprise, Max Belcher was named captain. Beside Max, Leighton Oligny was named assistant captain. The second assistant captain title was given to Chuck. “This was a surprise for me but I am honored to have been picked as an assistant. I’ll do whatever it takes to lead the men in this locker room to success, both on and off the ice” Chuck had to say when asked about the recent announcement. Go Kraken!
