Hello new players!
From the Trade Deadline to the posting of the first task completable for TPE, whether that be the Interested Prospects Threads, Early Bird PT, Mock Draft, etc., DFAs will be able to complete weekly DFA Bounties. These Bounties will function practically identically to PTs, but for money instead of TPE, and will be posted in this part of the forums. By writing 250 words or completing a graphic for a certain prompt, DFAs will earn $500,000 for their bank accounts, with a cap of 4 completed bounties ($2,000,000). You do not need to claim bounties anywhere, instead the money will be added to your bank account when the task is graded. Written Option: Only the best of the best make it into the SMJHL. Junior players from all over the world come to this league in the hopes of being drafted, becoming a successful SMJHL player and continuing that success in the SHL. But we all have a history too. What is your history? Where did you play? How did you do? How did your career look so far, and what aspects of your player in their pre-SMJHL career is going to make your player succeed? (250 words min.) Graphic Option: Pictures say more than a thousand words. Show us a pic of the young you, playing hockey. Include your player name and a render of your younger self, and at least one statline. Reward: $500,000, for doing one of the options. Only current SMJHL Draftable Free Agents (S80 SMJHL Draftees, SHL class of S81) are eligible for this bounty. Deadline: Sunday, November 10th at 11:59pm PST.

Life is motion, and no one knows that better than “River” Yekaterina Volkova. She was in motion before she was even born, the child of two women who left their mother country of Russia to give birth in the outskirts of Copenhagen. She was in motion as a traveling family, moving first from Denmark to Scotland and then finally to Kennebunkport, Maine. She was in motion as a proud daughter, coming out to her parents as a transgender girl and claiming not one but two names for herself.
But River never feels more at motion, more alive, than when she’s on the ice. Moving from place to place as a child wasn’t conducive to staying on one team for long, but she played religiously in youth camps and girls’ teams for her age brackets. In Maine she participated in the 12U and 14U travel hockey programs of the Biddeford Youth Hockey Association and competed within the Valley Hockey League. Entering high school, though, is when she truly shined. As a player on the Biddeford Co-Op Tigers and the elite Casco Bay Mariners, she quickly rose as a dominant offensive forward and played against some of the best competition in the country for her gender bracket. River played with lethal speed and precision, noted for her balance and handling of the puck and her ability to set up herself and her teammates for an offensive onslaught. She was even a finalist for the Becky Schaffer Award, given to the top senior in Maine high school girls’ hockey. Although she also did well academically and considered higher education for study in chemistry, River and her parents all felt she had a shot at further greatness in hockey if she pursued play at the next level, and so she declared as a DFA for the SMJHL. A river never ceases its motion, after all, and neither will she.

Wednesy Shrinetime is a player from Japan, dedicated to a shrine from the Sloths locker room called the Shinkansen shrine, a shrine to the Japanese bullet train. Wednesy is a dedicated hockey player with dreams of becoming the best player in the league and hoping to win an MVP one day in this league. A focus on scoring goals and getting assists, Wednesy will also focus on faceoffs and other facets of the game, as well as being a good teammate and getting some work in defensively to help the team out as a whole. Wednesy is a great human who is a hard worker and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. A deeply dedicated person, Wednesy gets up at 5 am every morning to work out and to pray at the Shinkansen shrine in their backyard. Wednesy's role model in the league is Adam Prpich, former multiple time MVP who had a very similar approach to the game as Wednesy and so a lot of the attributes that get on the ice will hopefully one day be similar as what Prpich had going on. Wednesy will be more focused on success in the SHL rather than the juniors, as that is more important to her. Ultimately the goal is to be called up quick and start contributing to the team as fast as possible and to be a great teammate. There is a hope for Wednesy to be a first round draft pick in the SHL entry draft and hopefully that can be achieved.
