Deep Dive #2: Reflecting on my first SMJHL season

For my first SMJHL season I was very nervous. I was not sure what to expect of it, how serious it may have been, and overall I was just worried about the kind of atmosphere that it would have. I was talked into it eventually by a good friend and from there talking to more and more people I realized how fun and exciting everything was. Creating my character was tons of fun I absolutely loved the building system, it reminded me of when I would play Chel and create my guy or 99 all of his stats. It is lots of fun being careful with what I choose, making sure I am proficient in multiple things and not being a one trick pony, with no physical traits that just gets dominated. From creating the character I obviously wanted better stats so I started to do some of the tasks, and I was really excited to do my first graphic. Doing the graphic and looking at other graphics was tons of fun and really got me inspired to do better graphics in the future. The tasks were fun and none of them ever felt like a drag. I feel it actually helped with some of my writing skills to just practice and read sometimes which I always forget to do. Safe to say my team The HIGHLANDERS, also help to make this league super fun and enjoyable, even when I am a little worried about things they remind me to not take it too seriously and just be myself because this space is so friendly.
To get more into how well my player did this first season, Pavel Mintyukov had a really promising first season, being picked up from waivers into having decent ice time and 23 points certainly felt like I was gaining some ground in this league. The first few games Minty had, were not too amazing, a couple points but the Defensive side of things was not clicking for young Mintyukov. Tinkering with his skills and training hard eventually got to some consistent defense and got the plus minus evened out. The goals may not have been there for Minty this first season, but they will come, as more training comes, and as his skills develop, he will be a monster on both ends of the ice. Minty was also the only Highlander to win a fight, he also lost a fight so 50% win rate in fighting is not too bad. Mintyukov's ice time was good enough for top 3 on the team, ensuring he gets used to the new surroundings and used to how much work his GM has him putting in. Mintyukov will also have to keep building up his body so he can block more shots as he had a rather average shot blocking season, perhaps from just learning his position or learning his role, he wants to be able to put his body in front of things whether it is a fist or a puck. He wants to be able to stick up for his guys and make sure they know that he is putting in all his effort on the ice. As Mintyukov prepares for the playoffs, he may be creating some new rituals to add to his mental. As he looks forward to working more with his team, the place that allows him to be himself, and ensures that he has fun the whole way through. He does want to win though so he gets a little competitive with his stinky teammate Leo Carlsson, but maybe Leo will get his act up. ; background-color: #025D58; font-family: Arial;">
