S79 PT #5: Analytical Comments Due: Sunday, November 17th @ 11:59 PM PST

Written Option 1:

Being invited to analyse her own game was an interesting experience for Sonja as she doesn't get to do that often. On the morning of the day when she was due, she felt a bit nervous but was very much excited about it. Being asked about their playoff performance, she didn't hesitate much to answer

" I think every single person in Calgary can keep their head held high. After all while people started to expect something from us, no one expected us to do so well. We were facing the defending champions after all so I think when we won in 5 games, we pretty much shocked the whole league. It was like sending a message of sorts that we are here and it's better to count us in. Then came San Francisco and we lost the first two games. I think at that point most people thought it was over for us. Which is fair but we didn't believe so and that shown in the end as we won game 3 and 4. Sure it may have been my sister who scored the winning goal but I think without me that would have not been possible. Something just clicked inside of me and I managed to turn the game. After that we lost one and won one to force the tie into game 7 which in itself was insane. Sure we got knocked out in the end but as I said, everyone can keep their head high and be proud of what we archived. We took probably the best team this year to game 7 and even then it was close. We were one goal off before they scored on an empty net after all. And the best part about our performance? It's only the begining. "

" Maybe someones er... they don't like me but... because i'm too good, i don't know why. "

If Slip McScruff is going to be invited to be a commentator in another sports league, it would probably be because he has incredible longevity in the sport of hockey. So they will bring him on whenever they need another certified old guy in the room to toss simple questions at about how to stay in the game after so many years.

Oh, so and so is going to play in his recording breaking blah blah game of this sport, let's get a Slip McScruff segment for the pregame show.

My key to longevity was keeping a habit, eating the same diet kept me focused in a routine. I did my stretches. Put my head down and grinded. Did what I needed. Yadda yadda.

Then, we're at half time, let's get Slip McScruff to weigh in on what he sees out there.

He doesn't look at day over 21, spry as a spring chicken and twice as fast. He could keep going for another 5 years, then you can keep bringing me on to pay my bills.

I would definitely try to prepare for it. I certainly wouldn't study it for 12 hours, but I would try to put enough into it to know at least the most basic things about the sport and the league. Maybe the reason I would definitely accept the invitation could be because I would get a lot of money for it, but the main reason would be that I would take it as a challenge. I like to try and take on new challenges, even though it may seem crazy at first. I think that overcoming such a challenge could advance me not only in career and popularity, but also in life. I also have to have a certain amount of self-confidence, which I need a lot as a goalkeeper. I also quite enjoy learning new things, so I think I would definitely enjoy this challenge. And that, I think, is the most important thing.

Oliver knew about the invitation before the regular season was over. Fox Sports-LA wanted him and a few of his teammates to come in and do some sort of commentary during the off-season. He accepted, since the money sounded good and it'd be a good opportunity to try out a possible retirement plan if he wanted to stay in the sporting world. He was figuring that maybe the call would be for lower level hockey leagues or possibly PBE or ISFL. But when the packet finally came the night before he was set to go to the studio, it was for... Indoor Handball.

What the actual fuck is Indoor Handball?

But, with 12 hours to spare, Oliver knuckled down and spent a few hours studying what he could with Wikipedia, international websites (it luckily has a pretty big following in France?), and YouTube videos. He still ended up winging it and asking for clarification of some things from the more knowledgeable play-by-play announcer, but it all worked out and the producers seemed happy with his work.
