Why Darian Scherbluk Deserves to be a first round pick!
Today Toronto Star reporter Richard Sage had time to sit down with prospect Darian Scherbluk to talk about his future in the NWJHL and his expectations for himself coming into his first season. Darian Scherbluk told the media today he see himself as a worthy pick in the late first round of the draft. Many people we surprised to hear this as Scherbluk is not projected to go that high in the draft. Especially with the unbelievable talented in this year’s first round of the draft it will make it even tougher for him to crack the top round. Now we are going to take a deeper look into why he is worthy of a pick that high.

Reason number one: He has been putting forward a full effort in improving his reputation in the SHL through the media.

Darian has been really active in the media so far and has really got his name out there to all the scout and general managers. He has done multiple media events including interviews with different managers and media crew, has done an autobiography on himself that helped people get to know him better as a normal person off the ice and much more. With all this media conferences and articles Darian has been doing he has made a good profit from it which he can use towards improving his skill with training camps, extra individual workout/ practices and new equipment which can give him that extra edge over his opponents in games.

Reason number two: Darian has a unique ability at the defensive position.

Darian Scherbluk has the skills and potential to become an elite shutdown defensemen in the NWJHL and latter in the SHL. Coming into the draft he already has great understanding for his responsibilities in the defensive zone and can execute them with ease. Darian was known in the OHL as the top shutdown defensemen and hopes to carry that title with him. He has great size for a defensemen but what is most impressive is that he is still a great skater even though he is 6”6 and 240 pounds. With his size come his vicious checks which he is not afraid to dish out on any opposing player. In his final season in the OHL with the Ice Dogs he led the league in hits which is not a big surprise. He is also learned how to be a great penalty killer in the OHL learning to read play and anticipate the shot so he can get down in front of the puck a block it. There are some great defensemen in this draft with a lot of talent but if your team is looking for that consistent shut down defensemen Darian is the one you should pick. He is a great compliment to the offensive defensemen who like to pinch up into the offensive zone as if there is a turnover there is nothing to fear as Darian will be back break up that odd man rush. Every team needs a good balance of offensive and defence and Darian brings those great defensive abilities that teams are looking for.

Reason number three: Darian has a great determination and work ethic to improve his players’ skills.

If you have gotten the chance to play with Darian on a hockey team you will start to notice that he is always the first and last person off the ice in practice. His passion for the game is nothing like you have seen before. He wants to be the best and Darian say “the only way to get better is to practice and work hard and once you reach the top you have to work even harder to stay there”. The big reason Darian left Ukraine two years earlier then he had to was because he was not satisfied with just being one of the top players in Ukraine he wanted to go to a country that has the best hockey players in the world and that is Canada. Darian will continue to work and strive to become an elite player in both the NWJHL and the SHL.
This is all for now but stay tuned for more media with Darian Scherbluk as he prepares for the upcoming draft.

Defensemen don't seem to go to high in the NWJHL-draf so don't be disappointed if you aren't picked in the 1st. But judging by your activity, you definitely deserve it!

Your activity is great, keep it going and you will go high and you never know you might sneak into one of the last 1st round picks, i not, it will be shortly after that.

Cheers
