C Evandrus Jesster :impact:
The captain of the Montreal Impact was selected second overall for a reason. His playing style is a beautiful thing to watch, really, and it's easy to say that he will inspire many other hockey players to follow in his footsteps as a "do it all" kind of center prospect. Evandrus Jesster is even currently beating Robb Wind in rookie scoring with 9 goals and 18 assists for 27 points overall. Wind is not too far behind with 24 points, but it's still remarkable that Jesster is making things this entertaining for us all.

RW Robb Wind Scarecrows
Robb Wind is an impressive scoring winger that can improve any team he plays for, as someone with his surgeon like sniping abilities prove essential to any team looking to win a championship in its near future. Currently leading all rookies with 13 goals, his 24 points is a confirmation to what everyone already knew...Robb Wind is a beast and he's only going to get better. It's fun to guess how many goals this player will eventually score in the SHL.

LW Zack Hoover Whalers
Without a doubt, Zach Hoover brings everything a dynamic playmaker should, but he also brings something special to the Vancouver Whalers locker room. His hard work ethic and positive attitude sets an example for all the fellow S25 SHL Draft eligible rookies around him. Currently tied for 6th in rookie scoring with Adam Falk, his 9 goals and 10 assists proves this crafty winger always finds enough time and space to potentially change the outcome of any game he's in.

D Maria Maximova Knights
Maria Maximova is currently leading all rookie defenseman in this year's draft class with 18 points. This is no small task in a draft year that includes Bastien Salabanzi, Josh Matthews and Rick Chleb among others. Her strong stride and natural offensive talent is uncanny, and we should only expect this kind of production to improve in the future. This puck moving defenseman will be highly sought after in the S25 SHL Draft and rightfully so.

D Rick Chleb Firebirds
This player would be great in a physical complementary role to Maximova. Chleb brings a mean gritty style that coaches love and he proves that statement by being only behind Colin Wood in shots blocked. He also seems to have a seemingly untapped offensive upside to his game. As the season progressed he started to show a knack for also jumping in on a play when needed. This combination of skill will make this young defenseman a hard decision for any general manager to pass.

G Austin Lemieux Falcons
Austin Lemieux takes the spot here in no surprise to anyone. He is currently settling into his role on the Detroit Falcons, splitting time with Lee Bowden. Lemieux seems to be the best goalie prospect in the S24 SMJHL Draft and he's proven it with a 0.869% save percentage and a GAA of 3.10 in 15 games thus far. This prospect will definitely be a starting goaltender in the SHL one day, and for a good reason.

Center: Evandrus Jesster

A clear no brainer choice to make the rookie team, Evandrus Jesster was one of the top picks in the draft and has proven he was worth it with his play on the ice as well. Jesster is top 10 in scoring in the league, as a rookie, making him a rare commodity in a junior league dominated by send downs. He has 3 points over fellow rookie Robb Wind to lead the rookie scoring race right now. Jesster looks like a frontrunner for rookie of the year, making him the clear choice to start at center for the all-rookie team.

Right Wing: Robb Wind

The other top pick in the draft, Robb wind is another clear choice as a starter on the all-rookie squad. He has 24 points, 3 shy of Jesster, and is barely trailing for the rookie scoring lead. A top line featuring both Wind and Jesster is sure to give any team fits, giving the all-rookie team a fighting chance on the offensive side of the puck. Both Wind and Jesster lack some of the defensive acumen however, but should be a great duo up front.

Left Wing: Mario Nyquist

Mario Nyquist is no slouch himself, offensively. At 22 points the natural center can hold his own with the two forwards previously chosen. Nyquist has one advantage over the other two however, which is the fact that he can throw hits as well. At 32 hits, he has a more well rounded game than the previous two players, making him a great compliment to the offensive juggernauts he would be paired with. The transition from Center to Left Wing should be seamless for Nyquist.

Defense: John Matthews – Alexander Wolff

The first choice, John Matthews is a player that can help provide offense from the point, while also chipping in on the defensive side by shutting down opposing shooters. The dman leads all rookie defensemen in points this year, with 21. The next closest is 18, with his d partner for the all rookie team and one other rookie following in at 15. To compliment his offensive skills from the backend, John Matthews also boasts 26 shots blocked, one of the highest totals for rookie defensemen this season.

Alexander Wolff is a completely different player however. Tied for 3rd in scoring from rookie defensemen, the defender may seem like a biased choice for this team. Wolff, however has the defensive skills to earn a spot on the rookie team. The defensemen has chipped in 15 points this year, however the thing that makes him unique is his 67 hits. Wolff’s 67 hits are enough to lead EVERY defenseman in the league, while putting him in 4th place overall for hits this season. His physicality and scoring is backed with a willingness to put his body on the line every shift. Wolff also boasts 17 blocked shots this season, which is no slouch either.

The pairing of Matthews and Wolff would certainly be an interesting duo to watch.

Goalie: Austin Lemieux

The only rookie goalie in the league this year (according to the index) Lemieux is no world class defender, however can clearly hold his own, boasting 7 wins and a record over .500. The hope is that he won’t have to be relied on too heavily however, with some of the offensive talent the all-rookie team has.

In a world where send-downs are expected to be better than the rookies, we have one man form a team that would beat everyone, even a team of five Chuck Norris'es...

This team was formed by a man, a man many claimed to be insane... they're probably right.

- Start inane bantering.

Center: Kristján Vilhjalmsson
For over 250 the vikings marauded the European continent and became stuff of legends. One man that is the living embodiment of everything great about Vikings is Kristján Vilhjalmsson, he's tough, he's no-nonsense, he only talks when he feels like talking, he's sexy as F, and he's arguably the best passer in the SMJHL, rookie or no rookie.

Every team is better with a Viking, and having one lead your line means that victory is assured. There's only one choice in reality, despite it taking more than a page before people started realizing it...

Oh, and did I tell he's sexy as hell?

Right Winger: Hugh Johnson
Yeah I am putting a center on the left wing, wanna fight about it? If you want we can take it outside, because I am always down to do things with punching and faces...

Hugh Johnson is the man that every man wants to man, and the woman that every woman wants to woman... Or something like that. He's Hugh, He's Johnson, He's Hugh Johnson and he's a Kelowna player so that makes him a legend in my book.

Sure, he might not be as sexy as his fellow center teammate Kristján Vilhjalmsson, but there's no shame in coming second to the hottest piece of ass this side of the Alpha Quadrant.

Left Winger: Randy Randleman
"You can't pick Randy, he's a second year player!"
Well, that's where you would be wrong my uneducated brethren/cistern. To make sure that this team is the best possible team to have ever teamed, I have rented a time machine at the local 7-11 and I have taken that time machine one year back. Through the power of candy I have lured him in my timemachine/shady van, and I have taken him through a groovy time journey all the way to this season.

So that's why Randleman is completely eligible for this list, and anyone that disagrees can go suck a lemon!

Defender 1: Maria Maximova
From the nation of vodka, bears, and more vodka comes the lovely Maria Maximova. But don't be fooled by her pretty looks, because she'll F you up every single minute on the ice, and she'll probably cackle maniacally doing so. She might be a bit crazy in the head, but every Russian is crazy and we love them for it.

In her spare time she likes to drink the tears of orphans to give her the strength to victimize her foes on the ice.

Also, she pretty, yo.

Defender 2: Ivar Ogorodnikov
When you got one crazy Russian at the blueline, you need a second one to even things out... Ivar is like the uglier dude version of Maria Maximova, but that's no problem at all. We'll just put a paper bag over his head and put some grapefruits under his jersey. Afterwards we'll just have him ramble in Russian like he always does, and no opponent is any wise that this isn't a second Maria Maximova.

As a result they'll all check out of the game due to concussion symptons because they're seeing double, and we'll have won the game by default, the best two words in the dictionary, de-fault!

Goalie: <s>Not Austin Lemieux</s>, it's local Kelowna ice-master Icey McZamboniman
Come on guys, give me at least some semblance of a choice here!
I refuse to play by anyone's rules and I refuse to write about some scrub who isn't even part of the glorious nationstate of Kelownia, I will only speak about proud Kelownians and their proud pride of proudness.

Thus I will forego with any sort of semblance of rules, and I will put the Kelowna Ice-Master Icey McZamboniman in between the net. Does he know a single thing about hockey, probably not, he's probably a bit of a looney as he's only looking at pictures of perfectly maintained ice rinks, but we're a tolerant people and we don't judge people that are different than us.

Besides, he doesn't have to do jack shit because Ivar will send every opponent home with PCS.

-----

So there you have it ladies and gerbils, this is the best team to have ever graced the ice. And as you can read and see, I have held myself to your pathetic rulebook of only using Rookies in my listing, if anyone tells me otherwise they're clearly just trying to sabotage me and should get a paddling.

Disclaimer: Every player being Kelowna(-ish) is merely coincidental, reading this point task may lead to: Hallucinations, Extreme sexual urges, dizziness, runny nose, stuffy nose, narcolepsy AND insomnia, heart palpitations, nausea, coma, and/or death.

Although we are only halfway into the S24 SMJHL season, we can already start to see glimmers and consistent production by some of the very best players from the draft class. Forwards, defenseman, and goalies of the rookie squad have all pushed one another hard to earn a spot in the prestigious rookie versus send-downs game, but of course, only one player per a position can be awarded these special positions. Without further delay, I unveil to you my lineup of the S24 SMJHL rookies, who will face the send-downs and draftees of previous season. It of course all starts with….

Center- Evandrus Jesster :impact:

My arch rival, but also someone I respect immensely and have grown to be able to call my friend. Jesster and I are currently in a battle to see who will go first overall in the upcoming SHL draft, and who will lead the rookies in the SMJHL this season in points. Thus far, Jesster has bested me in points by a small clip, and will lead to an epic scoring battle through the second half of the season. He is simply a dynamic offensive center, who can both score and pass at a very high rate. There is not a better rookie center to guide this team right now.

Right Wind- Michael Burch Falcons

Perhaps a surprise pick to many, but the 1st overall pick in the S24 SMJHL draft Robb Wind, is too busy at a Game of Thrones cosplay to join this game. Michael Burch leads all Falcons rookies in points, with six goals and eleven assists, for a total of seventeen points in twenty-nine games for the Falcons. That is very impressive, and he also has a plus-minus stat of positive six, which shows that he is also playing well on the defensive side of the ice too.

Left Wing- Zack Hoover Whalers

Hoover has been a stud, and a cog in the Whalers offense since he was drafted by the
team with their first round selection in the S24 SMJHL draft. In thirty games for the Whalers, Hoover has managed to score ten goals and be credited for eleven assists, for a total of twenty-one points on the season, which is the sixth most among the rookie draft class.

Defenseman- John Matthews Scarecrows

Expecting someone else to be one of the two defenseman on this team? Matthews has been the best offensive defenseman of this class. In thirty games for the Scarecrows, Matthews has managed to score four goals, and be credited for a whopping nineteen assists, for a total of twenty-three points, good for fourth among rookies; he is instrumental in the Scarecrows’ success.

Defenseman- Maria Maximova Knights

Another really good offensive defenseman in this class is Maximova of the Knights, who is putting up very good numbers for the Whalers. In thirty games for the club, Maximova has managed to score six goals and be credited for thirteen assists, for a total of nineteen points, which is tied for eighth among rookies.

Goalie- Austin Lemieux Falcons

There really is no other choice, Lemieux has been highly respectable as a goalie for the Falcons, by leading all goalies in the class in TPE, and producing well for the Falcons, enough that they are playing very well in a tougher conference. He will most likely be the best goalie from this class.

Whenever I build a team I keep it simple, offense scores, defense makes life difficult for forwards, goalie stops the puck. When you are building a team to compete against a better opponent you need to make sure you keep it simple and you are the best at what you do. Two way or multi tool players will get run over by players who are better at it, if you can excel in one area in each area of the ice you just may be able to beat your opponent. So without more of an explanation here is the starting line up of the junior team...if I were the GM.

Centre: :impact:
Evandrus Jesster - I know I said I wouldn't take two way players but Jesster is a rare exception he is arguably the best junior and most complete player coming out of the juniors this year. He plays a two way game but excels in the offensive zone. Jesster will be the center piece to the offense that can pass but he can score like any send down from the sophomore class.

Right Wing: Knights
Ivan Koroviev - A lot of people would pick Robb Wind in this spot and he is a very good choice. I am going a different route. I want a passer in this position with Jesster a natural score I need a setup man. He is an offensive forward that can feather a pass blindfolded tape to tape. He is the perfect compliment piece in this rookie class to go with the two forwards on his team and he is not completely lost in the defensive zone, just don't expect him to be a PK specialist.

Left Wing: Firebirds
Leon Webb - Yeah I am a fan of myself and I wouldn't waste an opportunity to take it to the senior class, but more so I am one of the best snipers in this draft class. With a traditional shoot first mentality. I can pass the puck and I am not a complete slouch in the defensive zone, but I am going to be a monster in the offensive zone with the talent around me.

R.Defense: Firebirds
Cynthia Taylor - He game is simple and perfect for my defense. She is a monster in her own zone, she hits, she plays hard nosed and when she gets the puck moves it out cleanly. She is everything I think of when I think of a young defender need to compete against tougher competition. It won't matter who is in net for the Rookies because Cynthia will be in front of them keeping it clear.

L.Defense: :impact:
Roman Morenov - You want a PK specialist that will make every forward pissed off because he is a complete nuisance one word MORENOV. I see a young Azriel Stryfe in him and that is a huge compliment, he is going to be one of the best at what he does for a long, long time in the SHL. He isn't as gifted as Cynthia with moving the puck but he is a second goalie on the ice and he will cause opposing forward to make mistakes.

Goalie: Falcons
Austin Lemieux - Like everyone else has said, you have to go with the best option in net. So far Lemiuex has been the best of the rookie goalies. They are all close but he does get a slight nod with his play through the season. Adding the elite shutdown defenders in front of him and he may be a force the talented sophomore class can not beat.

Like I said I am not building a roster of two way players, I want the best of masters of one to create a complete team to compete against a team full of complete players. The skill set each one brings to the table should be enough to compete and win against any sophomore class that is brought down to compete against the rookie stars.

The sophomores may be given the edge in this match-up due to their extra practice hours, but the rookies have got some very talented players, and don’t be surprised if they put up a fight. The S25 draft class is looking like the one of the best in recent memory, and these 6 players are just the beginning of what it has to offer.

Center: Evandrus Jesster - :impact:
Probably the most obvious choice to start for the rookies is Jesster. With 31 points in 36 games, he’s got the second most points of any center in the SMJHL, and leads all rookies in scoring. Evandrus has a tremendous work ethic, with just as many practice hours as some of the sophomores, and is one of the most consistent players you’ll ever find. With a 6 game goal streak, and an 8 game point streak, he’s been relied on to lead the Impact this year.

Left Wing: Zach Hoover - Whalers
The 4th overall pick in the SMJHL Entry Draft hasn’t disappointed. While the Whalers may be struggling, it’s safe to say he’s doing his part, with 11 goals, and 11 assists (22 points) on the season. The fact that Hoover has managed to stay at a +/- of 1, on a team with just 9 wins in 32 games, says he’s a good defensive player, and he capitalizes on every chance he gets with one of the best shooting percentages in the league. Oh, and I love this guy’s name, it’s a lot of fun to say.

Right Wing: Robb Wind - Scarecrows
The 1st overall pick has been a great addition to the Scarecrows. Robb’s 28 points, has him in second for rookie scoring, and the fact that he is so effective every team he’s on the ice (1.05 points per 20 minutes), makes him my favourite for the rookie of the year award. Wind’s lethal shot has him tied for 4th for most goals, making it safe to say that the Scarecrows wouldn’t be where they are now without him. Also, he loves Game of Thrones, which makes him an automatic stud.

Defenseman: Alexander Wolff - :impact:
One of the biggest steals in the draft was Alexander Wolff, largely due to the fact that he’s viewed as more of a defensive defenseman then an offensive defenseman. Wolff doesn’t take any shit from anybody with 43 penalty minutes, and he’s very good at separating players from the puck. Alexander’s 71 hits are good for the most hits of any defenseman in the SMJHL, and he’s also pitched in offensively. Wolff has 17 points, which is pretty good for a defenseman, never mind a defensive minded one. He’s got the same first name as me too, so you can’t go wrong with this guy.

Defenseman: Maria Maximova - Knights
Maximova would be the perfect pick too compliment Wolff. Maria is exactly what every team wants in an offensive defenseman, as she is the quarterback of the Knights power play. Her cannon of a shot has gotten her 7 goals, the most of any rookie defensemen, and 6 of which came from the power play. 13 assists is very impressive as well. It would be neat to have a girl in the starting line-up too, might distract the sophomores.

Goalie: Austin Lemieux - Falcons
The best goalie in this draft class has to be Lemieux. His good work ethic has found him logging more practice hours than any other season 25 goalie, and thus, he’s has respectable numbers for Detroit. The fact that he’s above .500 in his rookie year is enough to earn him this spot.
