Michael Boychuk Dragons Presser Ask Me Questions!
#1

CAN BE GRADED

We are 29 games into the SHL season and so far the Calgary Dragons have been an interesting team to watch. So far, the Dragons have had an up and down season, playing pretty evenly at a .500 pace. They have a current record of 13-13-3 with a -12 differential in goals. Earlier in the season they were playing like one of the top teams, but as of late they have dropped off and went on a bit of a slump.

The Calgary Dragons have a few rookies on their squad as well, with one of them being defenseman Michael Boychuk. So far, Boychuk has 7 points in those 29 games. All of those points are assists, which analysts find a little odd as he has a pretty good shot and has put 14 shots on net. He also sits at a -3 on a pairing with fellow rookie Fernando Pergher, who only has one more point than him with 8. Michael Boychuk has 41 hits and 22 shots blocked as well to go with those other numbers.

Going forward, he hopes for his team and his self included to pick up their respective games.

Interview Wtf is a dollar and a dream anyways??

MB: DollarAndADream is just a name I came up with because I am a huge J. Cole fan. He's done a few songs with that name and a world tour, and that username clicks a lot more than my other one I used to use.

-----------------------------------------

Interview Are you enjoying your new hair cut?

MB: The upkeep is a little tedious, but I think I have been pulling it off. I did not like the hair cut at first as it was a big joke to me, but I have been making it my own and have only gotten compliments somehow.

------------------------------------------

Interview Is Michael supposed to be Travis' brother? Do you actually have a brother or a relative called Michael? If so, how weird is it to have him on a hockey sim?

MB: Travis Boychuk is Michael's cousin. Travis made big strides in the VHL, but I decided this league would the best route for me heading forwards. Also....to be real with you Travis is my actual name and Michael is my middle name. Boychuk is not the last name I was born with, but it is one of my options from my parents. Wink I do have an actual cousin with the name Michael as well.

-------------------------------------------

Interview How long until Steelhead77 becomes a commissioner, owner, league advisor and ruler of the SHL?

MB: I think it will come with time. At this point I believe it is basically inevitable for him to climb up the ranks in the SHL with his work ethic and dedication to the league. He has been a great member and an even better GM in the SHL.

--------------------------------------------

Interview How do you expect next season to turn out stat wise for that (not anymore) rookie line we'll much likely comprise again?

MB: I am hoping for both Pergher and Boychuk to make a big improvement next season. We are both almost at the 10 point mark so far, and I expect us to be in the 20 point range next season. Or, at least I hope so. I think with both Pergher and I's work ethic we should be able to grow fast into quite a duo on the blue line.

---------------------------------------------

Interview Did gorlab manage to be even more annoying than we already knew he was, in your opinion?

MB: I think gorlab is fine. I read a lot of the stuff he has talked about over in the VHL before I came over here, so I fully knew what to expect. He is a pretty big member over in that league as well and his player over there is turning into one of the premier players of today. He might be annoying to other people all the time but I always think it is hilarious.

----------------------------------------------

Interview How are you going to celebrate your first goal in SHL ?

MB: Actually, I just scored my first goal today! I skated up the ice Nail Yakupov style and slid on my knees to center ice. Then later, with a nice rum and coke to cap off the night. I have been waiting awhile for that goal, and it has felt like a lengthy wait considering that fellow rookie Fernando Pergher already has 2. I have been firing more shots at the net than him as well, so I was getting impatient!

----------------------------------------------

Interview On a scale of 1-10 , how annoyed will you be if nobody goes and picks the puck for you after you score your first goal in SHL?

MB: 10. I want that puck. Luckily after my goal was scored today, fellow rookie Pergher grabbed the puck for me and it is already on its way back to my apartment here in Calgary.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview How did it feel to score your 1st career goal today against Winnipeg?

MB: It felt amazing. It has been a long time coming for myself to find that goal at this level, and now that I finally have it I can move on and look to break every milestone that I reach.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Has your rookie season been about what you expected so far?

MB: Coming in, I did not get my hopes up too much. I just wanted to go out there and prove not to be a liability. I think I have very much done that, and on top of that I have been producing. Considering I have been producing more than some others on my team, I think I have found success at this level right away. I only wish that our team could be doing better. The team always comes first.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview What is the relationship like with fellow rookie and defensive partner Fernando Pergher?

MB: I cannot speak for him, but we are on great terms. We have gotten along here since day one and we joke around a lot. Both of us have a competitive nature but we know it is all fun and games when we are not in a hockey mindset.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Is there any hard feelings between you and your rookie mentor Bronsen Zerchai over the haircut and hazing duties he gave you?

MB: No hard feelings at all. I did not know what to expect with the hazing, and to be honest I was not happy at first. I got used to the haircut and now I am still rocking it and living in it. Haters gonna hate, but I have become one with the haircut.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview How have the thigh rub downs been going?

MB: As well as you can expect, I guess. I have never done such a thing to a guy until that was announcing in the rookie hazing. I do not really want to talk about it, actually.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview What do you think has been a strength of your game this season?

MB: I think I have shown that I can play a reliable two-way game. I put pucks on net, make plays, and even play physical when needed. I have even shown that I am not prone to taking too many penalties. I think the area I have been the best at is play making. I have been able to find my forwards pretty well out there on the ice and I do not think I have made many mistakes in that regard as a first year guy.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview What has been a weakness or an area you'll be looking to improve on?

MB: The area I want to improve on the most is my strength. It has definitely been a weakness in my game, although it might not be showing too much right now. To be fair, I want to get better in all areas of the game. My career has only just begun.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Will Michael Boychuk become one of the best Dragons defenseman of all-time?

MB: Ha, that would be amazing. First of all I want to win cups with the team, as I am all about team accomplishments. If I become one of the best Dragons defenders of all time and we do not win any cups, then I can not even consider that success. I want cups. I want to bring them cups. Cups, cups, cups.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview What advice would you give to other rookies in the league or players hoping to make the jump next season?

MB: Just be patient. If things are not coming around as you want them to early in your career, do not be hard on yourself. Things will come around as they should. Be yourself, and do not let yourself get off course because success will follow commitment.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Do you enjoy the game "Guess what Esa had for lunch" ?

MB: I am still regretting the time that I was about to guess eggplant parm and I decided against it and guessed something else, then it ended up being eggplant parm. Damnit!!

-----------------------------------------------

Interview If you don't get a goal this season, are you going to demand a trade to the Bombers?

MB: This will not be possible because I just scored a goal tonight! Sorry, Tanner! I also plan on being a Calgary Dragon for many seasons in the future. Although I will always do what it best for the team and if that sooner or later means to leave, then I guess I will have to do that. I do not like to think about that though as that is a last resort. I want to bring cups to Calgary. I just re-signed not too long ago as well and I very much plan on re-signing again after that. Although, the Winnipeg Bombers of the WSHL are a great team. I wish them well.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview How has the jump from the SMJHL to the SHL been? Was it what you were expecting?

MB: Honestly, it has been a lot easier than I expected. Jumping straight into a pairing with Fernando Pergher and thriving has been amazing so far. The team and I started off quite well, although we have had some recent struggles. I suppose I am used to struggles as I was once a member of the Regina Force. Wink The boys up in Calgary have made it easy on me and everybody has been extremely helpful. I was not expecting to put up huge numbers either as a rookie defender, and at 8 points so far in 31 games I think I am satisfied.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Will your former team Regina Force (now PGF) a game up in the western conference. Do you wish you could be there to help them in the chase for the 4 star cup?

MB: Oh, man. I wish Prince George as much success as they can get. We were not able to accomplish the Four Star Cup when I was there and I considered that a failure for myself. I wanted that cup. I have always thought that we deserved a lot better than what we got in those couple of seasons I was there. It would be great if I was down there helping in the SMJHL, but my SHL team needs me. I will go where I am needed most. Besides, it is all about growth and I think I got as far as I could get in junior.

-----------------------------------------------

Interview Your former teammate, and someone who looked up to you last season surpassed your point total. Do you have any advice for him on making the jump to the SHL?

MB: Just keep growing. Prove any of your doubters wrong if you have any, and just be yourself. Stay as committed as you can you will get what you deserve in the long-run, I would have to believe. Keep your best foot forward.

------------------------------------------------

Interview Hola, come estas?

MB: Bien, gracias!! My spanish is not good at all. Don't expect more than what I just said. Smile

-------------------------------------------------

Interview Is Calgary treating you well, despite the rampant hazing?

MB: Calgary has been nothing but great so far. The hazing I thought was a little harsh at first but I learned to live with it. I found my place on the team and I am happy for that.

--------------------------------------------------

Interview Are there teams in the SHL that now look desirable to you that didn't before?

MB: I can't say I know a ton about the SHL, so really the teams that might look desirable are probably the ones that are successful right now, like the Los Angeles Panthers. I'm on the Dragons though, and all I want is to help the Dragons win the cup.

--------------------------------------------------

Interview Do you plan on re-signing with the Dragons when you become an RFA or testing the field?

MB: I have already re-signed for another 3 seasons on top of this current one, and I plan on re-signing again at the end of this contract if that is what the GM wants to do. I am fully committed.

--------------------------------------------------

Interview Ferdy's so cute. Respond.

MB: He is a cutie-patoodie and I would not have any other fellow rookie defenseman. Smile Do not take him lightly though, his play on the ice has a menacing side.

---------------------------------------------------

Interview Why does half of the league hates me?

MB: You are misunderstood, I think. The league should love you, but they just do not understand why right now. They will learn to love you like the Dragons love you.

---------------------------------------------------

Interview Can Calgary make the playoffs finally?

MB: I believe we can. We showed early on in the season that we can get on a roll and play up to par with the rest of the league. I truly believe we can get back to that success we were having early on. We have a great team and a great locker room.

---------------------------------------------------

Interview How do you like our new GM?

MB: He has been fantastic! He has been nothing but amazing since becoming GM and is very committed to the team. He knows how to handle the players and I believe he is taking the team is the best direction possible.

----------------------------------------------------

Interview Do you think I am saying the truth that Calgary has the best center duo in the league aka Esa and Birks?

MB: You speak the truth. Both of you are stellar at what you do and I know 100% that you guys can carry this team to the holy lands.

-----------------------------------------------------

Interview Your idol d-man from SHL?

MB: Why not Zoidberg? I think Sachimo is one of the best defensemen in the league today and he is definitely a great talent to look up to.

------------------------------------------------------

Interview Thoughts on Sparks Lightning?

MB: Initially he was a highly active player. I think he could do great things if he gets himself into the Point Tasks and regular weekly training.

I like reminding people that there's at least one league where Tanner plays well. <_<
