*Jesster arrives at the podium open to questions just shortly after speaking to his teammates post tonight's overtime series loss*
What do you think went wrong in your series against the Whalers? Not entire sure, I wish I knew I would hop in my time machine and correct that bitch. Possibly inexperience, or tiredness. It has been a long playoffs and the amount of over time games was unreal. We're a young team and we definitely gave it our all, maybe our gas tanks just hit empty first this time. Favourite moment of S24? Winning Game 7 to advance to the Four Star Cup Finals, absolutely amazing moment. Close second is the first round sweep of the St. Louis Winds. Getting past that first round slump Montreal has been in for awhile felt great. Nothing beats winning the East and getting a shot to win it all. Where do you see yourself playing next year? Personally I would be fine either in the SHL or SMJHL. I won't know the official decision until I find out who drafts me and their plans for our futures together. If my GM believe I had a legitimate shot to make the team better and can contribute to a cup winning chance, I'm all for it. Playing up on a non-contender wouldn't be ideal for me though. Goals for next season and beyond? If I go up to the SHL? Definitely having a good season in the standings and contributing to a Challenge Cup win. That is the obvious answer, the personal answer after that is bringing home some hardware, specifically my fathers trophy 'Jesster trophy' for rookie of the year. I'm going to be working my ass of to achieve all my goals, this year and beyond. Any players you want to be drafted alongside? Oh man many! This is such an exciting and active draft class. We have so many amazing guys here who are looking to make their impact in the SHL. For starters though I would have to say fellow teammates Lord Pretty Flacko, Falk and Welch are 100% top choices for me to play with in the big leagues. Around the league though, definitely hard workers like Wind, Hoover, Fleming, Clayton. There are so many amazing names I can list off that have become friends over the course of this season. Chances are good I'll at least get to play with one fellow rookie I'm dying for a shot to continue my career alongside. What are you going to take away from this series after a tough loss in game 6? Experience. We, the Impact, are the youngest and most inexperienced team both as rookies and in the playoffs in recent years. The playoffs were long after the first round, many games decided in over time. I think we did get a bit exhausted by the end there and it was just too difficult to dig ourselves out of the hole we created. Game 6 was a prime example of that fatigue getting to us, but I think next year with experience and growth we have a legitimate shot to bring the Four Star Cup to Montreal. That is definitely priority #1 for us. Do you have any words for the Vancouver Whalers or anyone on their team? Essentially what I said directly after the game still fits the bills on my thoughts and feelings. Incredible series, and a run worth praise Whalers. Congratulations on being the S24 Four Star Cup Champions! You have a lot of awesome guys on your roster, very happy for you all. We made it a fun and competitive series, here is to next year Montreal. Would you prefer staying a season down in the SMJHL next year or stepping into the SHL right away? It definitely depends on the situation and the comfort level my GM has in me in my rookie season. If I am drafted by an SHL team that really is not going to be competitive for a cup I would honestly rather come back to Montreal and finish my business down here. If I go to a team ready to make that jump, and my GM feels I can contribute effectively then definitely I would be honored to wear that sweater and compete for a Challenge Cup. How will the Impact bounce back from this year? Like I said before I think we needed more experience in the playoffs. We definitely got that experience this year, so many over time games we learned how to play ahead, from behind, and tied up in overtime. It was a wild ride and one that all of us learned from and will use for next season and the rest of our SHL careers to be honest. It was an amazing year, we all bonded so tightly, it would be great to come out next year gunning for that title. What are your plans for next season? Whatever my GM that selects me in this upcoming S25 Entry Draft wants from me. I'm a team guy and I'm willing to sit in any situation. I have personal preferences but that never is more important than what my GM and my SHL team need of me. My plan is just to continue working hard and prove my worth at the next level. If I get the opportunity to come back to the SMJHL and go for the Four Star Cup you best believe I will be hungry and driven. This league will need to be ready for that because I'll make sure I'm ready for this league. Is there a specific part of your game you need to focus on? I want to continue getting faster, definitely want to top off my skating a bit in the offseason and solidify my two way game. I thought I came on much better in the second half being more reliable in my own end as I got more comfortable. For me I want to be more than a one dimensional threat, I believe that if you can play good in your own end chances will come in the other as a result. What are your goals and aspirations for next season? Your career? Next season is winning a cup, regardless of which league I'm destined to play in. That goes for every single season afterwards. Of course I would love to be the best player of all time, I know I'll push myself to be the best player I can be. For here on out its just continuing my methods of working hard and finding better ways to improve my game, I am constantly learning and my application of that education is what will set me apart from my peers. How'd you feel your first season as being a captain went? It was a huge honor and honestly a bit of a shock and wake up call for me when I was named by my peers. It was a role I took on seriously and I kept telling the guys that this was a team destined to go further than the doubters pin us as. I feel like I did a good job of staying motivated myself and sharing that with my teammates. I wanted us to be all in on this together and in order to obtain success we needed to work harder than every team around us. You bet your ass we did just that. Knowing you're pretty much guaranteed being top two in the draft, would you rather be apart of Seattle or New England? It is surreal when that gets thrown around, and I'm not completely sure how valid that is. I don't have a personal preference between the two teams but I would like to go to a team that is ready to compete sooner than later. Maybe Seattle fits that bill a little bit more but you can definitely argue both are set to be good for quite a long time. I definitely am a bit worried about the goaltender situation in New England, as that hole this past season was glaring. Although you are a generational talent that can make the jump to the SHL immediately, would you rather stay with Montreal for another season or go on for your rookie season in the SHL? I mentioned earlier, but this depends on the situation. I would do whatever my GM asked me to do. However if the team is definitely not in competing mode I would prefer to come back and finish my business down here. How does it feel to be the best captain? I'm honored you say that, but there are so many great guys around this league that have captained their teams. McZehrl did a great job this year in Vancouver, no denying that. Even Fleming, another rookie turned captain immediately is incredible. It is nice to have recognition from fellow teammates and I am beyond belief of how well they think of me. It is an honor to play with each and every one of them. you still loves me?
