Ask away! Give me your generic questions and maybe toss in some curveballs!
What do you think will be the end up of a SHL Team for the Draft after this Cup Run? I think that youre asking where I will end up when it comes draft time and if being apart of this Cup Run will raise my stock. I don't think that being apart of a Four Star Cup team will do much to increase my draft stock by much. It was and is a team effort to win the Cup, and I didn't do to much in terms of offensive production to help us win it. Guys like McZ, Bure, Durden and Allen did so much more than me during this Cup Run. I'm ranked to go in the mid-late 1st round, and I think that I will still be taken around there. Why you are so overrated? Show us the Facts! I consider myself to be an overrated player. I was drafted 4th overall in the SMJHL draft and that sets up certain expectations out of players. I went into the draft a fairly quiet and modest player. I became a fan favorite for some reason and became known in the community for that. I was ranked 13th in TPE among rookies in a recent standings update, which shows partially that I am a tad overrated and overhyped. Also have been ranked 10-13 in many other rookie standings over the last few weeks. I don't like the attention and being a "face of the team". Me being rated as highly as I was/am doesn't really bode well with me and makes me a tad bit uncomfortable. I just want to go out there and play my hockey as best as I can and help the team win. Why McZ is a shitty Captain McZehrl is a great Captain. Leader on the ice, and weird German guy off ice who has a love for needles. Him talking gibberish about his needles, as well as being a potential drug addict may make him a shitty leader on any other team, but he is great here on the Whalers. What are your goals for the next year? My goals for next year are to keep getting more and more physical and maybe work on becoming a different type of player than I am right now. I dont have a defined style to how I play and I for sure want to figure out what I want to do for myself. Do I want to become a goal scorer, or passer? Do I want to be an all out offensive force, or work on all out defense, or maybe settle in the middle. It is all a bit confusing for sure in that regard. For team goals, I want to be able to repeat our cup victory. We all will have gotten better in general with our rookies improving, however we will be losing some key pieces in VLAD McZehrl, Beau Ballard, Erik Lundqvist, and Jordan Uptuck. Im sure that I will be able to help carry us well through the season and try to get another cup. Stats-wise, I want to improve on my points total for this year. I got 34 points, and 12 in the playoffs. I want to increase my points total up to at least 45, and would like to hit the 20 goal threshhold if I can. How did you feel when you saw that final goal go in in overtime? I was overjoyed. I wasnt on the ie during that play, but watched it go in from the bench. We all immediately jumped up and fucking celebrated hard. It is a crazy surreal moment to see the goal that leads to a Cup. Whalers MVP and Least Hyped Player? We have so many MVPs on this team. Erik Lundqvist was our MVP in net, making those key saves. McZehrl lead by example and got like 24 points. Bure also stepped up big and got 25 points. They are for sure our MVPs. I think the least hyped player on the team is Jack Durden. His name isnt out there to much in talks of the "greats" in this draft, but he is such a good, clutch player and a great guy. He will be a great asset for whichever team takes him. Where do you see yourself going in the SHL draft? I see myself going in the 1st round. Who knows where though. There have been a couple trades that have given teams better draft picks (New England and Calgary). I see myself getting drafted from 5-9 though. Wherever I go, I will be happy though. How did it feel when you knew your team had won the Four Star Cup? A huge sense of pride and accomplishment. As well as what I answered in an earlier question. It is the damn Cup. Its not the Cup we all strive to get up in the big leagues, but getting this in my rookie season... I am at a loss for words. Do you have any plans to celebrate or are you just going to prepare for the draft? I already spent the night with the boys celebrating our victory. Got a little bit drunk, but not going to linger to much on the victory. The draft is right around the corner and I am going to keep on working out with my new training to get bigger for the draft. No play time for me. Do you have any updated thoughts on people you'd like to be drafted by? I have my eyes set on a few teams. Going to probably message a few of the General Managers to see their needs and if I would fit in with their team. I will go wherever I am drafted however because I want the chance to play in the SHL. Each team is unique and has their own pros/cons about them. I dont want to burn any bridges by announcing which organizations I would/would not want to play for. People you want to be drafted with? My list of people I want to be drafted with has been pretty consistant. Luke Fleming and Jasper Clayton are always at the top of my list, but seems unlikely we will be able to play together due to our higher draft stocks. Geoffrey Allen and Jack Durden, my rookie teammates on the Whalers are also guys I would love to play with again in the SHL. Other guys like Wind, Jesster, Flacko, Maximova, would be a pleasure to play with as well. Guess that concludes my Post Four Star Cup Presser. Thank you all for your questions. 1130 words.
