The Whaler's Tale

Issue 4

Hello everyone! Welcome to another issue of the Whaler's Tale. The Whalers are currently sitting very pretty on top of the SMJHL Standings 4 points ahead of the 2nd team, the Prince George Firebirds. 12 games have been played so far with the Whalers lost 2 in regulation and 1 in overtime, the Whalers have sat pretty even with their big player loss.

Game 1: Whalers @ Scarecrows
The First game for the Whalers, on the road, very even shooting game but not the score, The Captain Vlad McZ drew blood first with a shorthanded goal in the first with the no longer on the roster Geoffrey Allen scoring a powerplay goal from Bure and Durden also in the first. Second Period Ben Troy was able to score ending NoNerves Shutout, making the game a 2-1 lead for the Whalers still. 10 Minutes in, the 5'6 Russian Defencemen Alexi Orlov dropped the gloves against the much larger Cahill and toke it to a standstill with the Refs breaking them apart. Welcome to the SMJHL Kid!
Anyways 3rd period, Bure was seen roughing up the Scarecrows in the 3rd as well as Wyatt Wolker who tripped a player giving them 2 powerplays, to no avail however as Curtis Crawford, first goal of his many points, scored to cement the victory for the Whalers as they won 3-1.

Game 2: Whalers @ Mammoths
The first game against the Mammoths in SMJHL History for the Whalers, the game was once again a road game for the Whalers but did not look pretty for Vancouver. 10 Minutes in, Karl Jenkins scored giving the Mammoths a 1-0 lead with the 1st overall pick scoring his first goal 2 minutes later with Potato Chips and Charlie Conway assisting the kid. The first period was filled with the Whalers laying the body and bad penalties although with Tony Pellagrino taking a bad high sticking call, Geoffrey Allen scored his second goal of the year assisted by Patrikov Bure.

2nd Period
Potato Chips now scored his 2nd goal of the season to give the Mammoths a 3-1 lead, luckily however with Karl Jenkins having 2 bad penalties, Vlad McZ was able to score a goal on the powerplay with Curtis Crawford and Patrick McEichel assisting him. Potato chips scored another goal to bring the lead back to 2 which ended Tyler NoNerves' run for the night as rookie Gavin Trent just signed last night came in the play as he only had 5 shots to deal with for the rest of the game. Whalers trailing by 2 but once again Allen comes in and scores assisted by Durden as the game was heading into the 3rd with a 3-2 lead by the Mammoths. Hits were slightly in Vancouver's favor as the Whalers "Whaled" The Mammoths again with shots and hits.

3rd Period
Vancouver poured the shots on net throughout the 3rd but Vancouver was unable to get anything going as Don Pellagrino scored his first goal on the rookie Don Pellagrino, Welcome to the SMJHL kid! Anyways the game ended up with a 4-2 loss by the Whalers after they failed to produce goals.

Game 3 :impact: @ Whalers
The Banner rose up, the S25 SMJHL Champions, first home game and against the very team they defeated to win the cup, big game for the Whalers and START.
Early penalties by the Whalers led the Impact to pour the shots on net in the first but once Lord Pretty Flacko took a hooking call, the Whalers took their chance as rookie Rick James was able to get his first goal of his career on the powerplay from Curtis Crawford. While shots for the first was in Montreal's favor, hits were not as Vancouver made the Impact eat their motto "Pound the Fucking body"

2nd Period and 3rd Period
This is where they lost the game, having nearly 5 penalties made Tyler NoNerves take on way too much pressure as the Impact scored 4 goals, 2 on the powerplay, 2 from Jesster, 1 from Morenov and 1 from Adam Falk. 3rd period was almost the same, Adam Falk scored another 1 and so did Jesster, scoring a hat trick. Patrick McEichel and Marshall both scored their first goal in a losing effort as the score was a 6-3 loss.

Game 4: Whalers @ :impact:
Now on the road against the team that blew them out last game, Montreal booed the Whalers straight from the start as the game began. First Period looked as though the Impact would have another blowout type of game as Jesster scored 2 goals from Welch and Falk with Jordan Mack scoring a goal giving the Impact a 3-0 lead in the first. The Russian Rookie Valentin Makarov scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay sparking a comeback as Geoffrey Allen scored his 4th of the season. hits were even and so were the shots heading into the 2nd.

2nd Period
5th Overall Pick, Wyatt Wolker scored his first goal early in the second from an assist by Patrikov Bure and Jack Durden, welcome to the SMJHL kid! Anyways Lord Pretty Flacko gave the Impact a 4-3 lead as he scored his 2nd but Curtis Crawford scored his 2nd tying it up. Late in the 2nd, Mikelis Grundmanis, a rookie scored a goal giving the Impact another lead as the score was now 5-4. Whalers started "Whaling" as the hits piled on.

3rd Period
Impact went full defense working well for almost the whole 3rd period except for the start as Patrick McEichel scored his 2nd tying the game in the highscoring 5-5 game. The Whalers had a nice powerplay after a double minor by Michael Gerrad but Ernest Ciarelli stood tall taking the game to OT.

OT: While only a couple of shots were recorded, the game would head to the Shootout.

ST:

Valentin Makarov with his first penalty shot, skates in, Fake shot to the backhand, Stretched out to make the save!

Adam Falk coming down skating slow, shot low blocker, nice save by NoNerves who waited and did not move. What Patience!

Veteran Patrikov Bure up to second ice, lining up skating right in!

HOHO WHAT A DANGLE! Vancouver takes the lead!

Lord Pretty Flacko now coming up to the plate, pressure lining up for the veteran as he skates in fast, fake shot to the forehand back to the backhand!

STRETCHED OUT FOR THE SAVE

Patrick McEichel now coming up who fires a low glove shot as Ernest Swipes it away not even fazed.

Jordan Mack, has to score for the tying goal, To the FOREHAND

THATS IT, SHOOTOUT WINNER FOR BURE, VANCOUVER TAKES THE VICTORY.

Game 5: Whalers @ Knights
Another Road game for the Whalers although I'd doubt they complain as they haven't lost on the road so far.
Lots of penalties for the 2 teams as both clearly do not like each other, although Kelowna a little bit more as they took 7 penalties in the first causing a brutal outshooting deficit for the Knights. But no effect as it seems as Kristjan Vilhjalmsson was able to score one with an assist from Whooves and Fuller 10 minutes in. Wyatt Wolker scored his 2nd though 2 minutes after tying the series with Allen and Crawford with assists.

2nd Period
Jack Durden scored his first mid way throughout the lot calmer period with an assist from Vlad McZ and Geoffrey Allen. the game was boring but important for the Knights as they tried to catch up in shots.

3rd Period
Very few shots in all, but 4 penalties again as the game winded out and the two began getting more aggresive, despite some good chances by the Knights, the Whalers held onto the lead as they won 2-1

Game 6: Whalers @ Scarecrows
ANOTHER ROAD GAME, Y JACK Y. Anyways, a good game but this was confirmed Geoffrey Allen's last game as the team prepared afterwards for his goodbye.

Period 1:
6 penalties for the 2 teams throughout the first, however Vancouver scored early as Paska Jakatis, Jack Durden and, Allen with his last point scored while Nick Leier scored the 2nd goal of the game as the 1st ended with St Louis laying the body.

Period 2:
2 penalties by the Whalers and 1 for the Scarecrows, Tyler NoNerves stood tall as he kept the Whalers in the lead heading into the 3rd.

Period 3:
John Matthews scored his first and Barney Tuzis scored to tie the game with Orlov giving the Whalers a PK to deal with. However Valentin Makarov scored to win the game 4-3

Game 7: Knights @ Whalers
http://theshl.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showtopic=58778

Was the Ceremony for the Whalers saying good bye the Geoffrey Allen.

Anyways game wise, Alaina Silva scored her first goal of her career giving the Whalers the 1-0 lead heading into the 2nd, Kelowna taking 3 penalties giving the Whalers lots of easy free shots. Hits were even as the game headed to the 2nd

Vlad McZ scored to give the Whalers the 2-0 lead in the 2nd from Jack Durden and Curtis Crawford. 2 Penalties from the Whalers, Bure and Black taking the penalties for Vancouver and Randy Randleman taking the Kelowna Penalty.

3rd Period was the Kelown Comeback as Tony Flow and Ivar Ogorodnikov scored to tie the game up much to the displease of the crowd. A minute later after the 2 goals were scored, Paska Jakatis and Patrikov Bure skated into the zone with Cody Black trailing, Bure gave him a One Timer pass as Cody Black was able to score his first goal. Welcome to the SMJHL Kid! Paska Jakatis then scored his 2nd giving the Whalers the 4-2 lead as the Whalers won the game for Geoffrey Allen

Game 8: raiders @ Whalers
First ever game between these 2 teams, first in franchise history, although the game was filled with so much penalties, one could easily mistake the 2 for rivals. 1st Period had the 2 teams laying the body and 4 penalties as the 2 duked it out with no goals in the 1st.

2nd period went to Halifax as 1 minute in Carter Rosston scored to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead, Curtis Crawford however scored to make the game tied, once again penalties and hits galore except that Vancouver seemed to have began hitting more as the Raiders slowed down

3rd Period had goals everywhere, once again Halifax scored to give the Raiders the lead, once again the Whalers tied it up with a goal by Wyatt Wolker and assisted by Bure. 5 minutes after, Whalers on the PP as Paska Jakatis scored to give the lead to the Whalers, soon after Bure with another assist as Patrick McEichel scored to give the whalers the 4-2 lead. Ingant Ogorodnikov made the game close with a late goal by NoNervers shut them down again as the game score was 4-3

Game 9: Mammoths @ Whalers
The Past 2 games for these 2 teams beforehand had been blowouts and this game was no exception. 8 Minutes in Alaina Silva scored her 2nd from Crawford and Black with Bure scoring his first soon after. Vancouver was not done there as Bure gave the puck to Vlad McZ who rifled one home giving the Whalers the 3-0 lead.

2nd Period Bure scored his 2nd from Alexi Orlov as Lee Bowden was pulled after, some roughing penalties in the 2nd but none too aggresive.

3rd Period put some salt in the wound as Vlad McZ scored his 2nd of the night with another assist by Bure with the final score 5-0

Game 10: Whalers @ Falcons
First game with these 2 this season, Patrick McEichel who has been leaving a good impression so far scored his 4th from Alaina Silva as the Whalers took a early lead. Michael Burch however tied it up right after the 1st goal as the 2 began battling it out on the boards as the 2 teams began being aggressive towards each other

2nd Period had Curtis Crawford score one from Jack Durden off the draw but Yorgan Bartenberry scoring to tie it up again. The Captain scored his 6th to give the Whalers the lead heading into the 2nd. The two teams were still bodychecking each other with some rivalry brewing.

3rd Period was Detroit pouring the shots on as Ross Burke scored late in the period off a penalty.

OT was quiet but Shootout was a marathon

ST:

Valentin Makarov coming in, high blocker! Save by Lemieux!

Naeem Chamas speeding in with a backhander! Easy save as NoNerves poke checked the puck before the shot came off.

Bure, the hero of the last Shootout, Shoots Fivehole! Lemieux ready for it as he closed the pads.

Burch slaps one low glove! Save by NoNerves

Patrick McEichel, speeding in, Forehand shot! Save by Austin!

Jasper Clayton takes a low blocker shot! Save by Lemieux

Jack Durden takes a shot! Missed the net.

Ross Burke the late game hero! [Image: KoivuShootout1192013.gif]

SCORE! WHALERS FIRST LOSS IN MANY GAMES!

Game 11: Firebirds @ Whalers
First game between these two? Blink Surprising. Anyways, 1st Period, Bure strikes first as he scores his 3rd off an assist by Cody Black, But Tyler Guest scores for PGF to tie the series up. Whalers pounding the body and pouring shots on net by still tied heading into the 2nd

2nd Period had lots of PGF penalties as Patrikov Bure with an assist by Rick James, Scored his 2nd of the night to give the lead to Vancouver

3rd Period had Corey Eaves score with an assist by Bure's Wife Cynthia Taylor but Patrick McEichel scored the game winning goal to win the game for Vancouver

Game 12: Whalers @ Knights
Big Blowout by the Whalers as the two fired away from the start, more of a scoring game then a hitting game, Rick James scored his 2nd for the first goal of the game, Captain Randy Randlemam scored to tie it up but Patrick McEichel scored his 6th to give the Whalers the lead again.

2nd Period Patrikov Bure strikes for the 3rd game in a row as Patrick McEichel assists on the Powerplay for Vancouver, Vlad McZ with Wyatt Wolker scores soon after to give the 4-1 lead to Vancouver. However the game was halted when [Image: hqdefault.jpg]

Tyler NoNerves would have none of that as this happened

Penalties galore later through the game as Patrikov Bure took the penalty.

3rd Period Patrikov Bure scored his 6th of the year as the game ended up with a 5-1 win over Kelowna

OFFENSE A+
With 3 Vancouver Players in the top 10 for scoring, and top in the league, there is no reason to change things although Curtis Crawford is slowing down so perhaps a change in the defense might be needed later on

Defense A-
2nd in the League for GA, the team can also handle the close games as Tyler NoNerves is shutting many teams down. It seems as though the Whalers' big defense haul in from the draft is helping

Special Teams A+
1st in both categories, the team is clicking so far

From Everyone here in the Whaler's Tale, we hope you enjoy the regular season and we hope for even greater success throughout the season and the playoffs.
