Registered Posting Freak Carter Rosston "With the 34th pick the Halifax Raiders select LW - Carter Rosston!" From the moment the selection was announced, the whispers could be heard around the SMJHL draft room. "Wow, I really think Halifax is reaching here. How could they pass on Sekkusu Gan, Ezekiel Zunino or Niall Brannan? These guys need to be drafting players who are a lock to contribute...Well at least it was just a compensation pick." A rival team's head scout was overheard saying. The Halifax fans at the draft party seemed disappointed that Halifax had passed on Sam Pelligrino. There were some sarcastic cheers as the other expansion club, the Colorado Mammoth's selected Pelligrino with the following pick. Behind the scenes the Raiders brass had just let out a big sigh of relief, following Colorado passing on Rosston with three consecutive picks. "This kids going to be a steal for us Bae! I feel like he's the perfect fit at this draft spot, He's humble, skilled and I don't even think he knows how good he can be. He's going to fit in extraordinarily well with what we're looking to build throughout this team." Raiders GM Valterri Bottas said to Co-GM Baelor Swift. Swift agreed 100% and the Halifax management got to work with contacting their newest player. Rosston expressed that he was thankful that the Halifax Raiders organization had believed in him and he vowed to get to work and prepare himself for the SMJHL season. Rosston has done just that. The young Swede was one of the first players at Halifax training camp, showing a great level of dedication and doing whatever is possible to improve on the ice. Carter has proven to be one of the teams best playmakers. Rosston was placed on a line with two-way center William Hendrickson and sniper Sekkusu Gan. The trio has been productive all season long and have complimented each other very well. Rosston got off to an excellent start. The playmaking forward led the Raiders in scoring for a majority of the season's opening stages. Carter is currently just one point behind his line-mate, goal scoring forward Sekkusu Gan. The duo's hot start helped the Raiders surprise a number of people by coming out of the gate strong. Halifax is one of the highest scoring teams in the SMJHL. Through 23 games, Rosston has found the back of the net 8 times. Carter is tied with Clayton Fuller for the most assists on the Raiders with 14. Rosston has been reliable defensively and has only one penalty all season long. Rosston has been one of the most productive rookies in the entire SMJHL. The Halifax Raiders organization has been very impressed with the talented rookie. He's a great teammate and has been everything that Halifax could have hoped for on the ice. If Rosston keeps it up, there's no way he'll have to wait until the 34th pick to hear his name in next season's SHL draft. |
