Raven does media for that juicy double cash bonus
#1

[3726 words, double media week, lets go baby]

The scrity scratchy sound of skates skating over ice is made as a few players of the New England Wolfpack do their morning skate. One of these players is the young absolute top anime lad Raven Silverwing. An inspiration to many british youth as Silverwing and the Wolfpack have won their 3rd cup in only 4 seasons. Together with British teammate Jasper Claytoff, he and Silverwing represent the England in New England. I spoke with Silverwing a long time ago, back when he was a wee lad who just left england for Montreal. Where he would start playing his junior season. A big question mark back then. Who was this lad? No one knew much about him and he seemed to have just appeared out of no where and announced he would be joining the smjhl draft. Here he would be drafted 30th overall as no one expected him to turn into whwt he has become and now 7 seasons later and he has gotten quite the reputation as a player. Setting records in Montreal and winning a four star cup and after three seasons in the minors, called up to the big boy league. He didn't have a good rookie season, but has since then never had a season under 30 points and even produced point per game in his latest season. Scoring 50 points in the 50 games played. He has also been a regular player for the national UK team. Where he has found success in recent years as they have qualified for the medal rounds 3 seasons in a row and are currently looking to get back into it again this year.

As Raven finished off the skate, I see my oppertunity to ask the lad some questions. About the sport he loves to play, his past, present and futre.

Interview Mike Cockburns: It's been a while Raven, how are you doing?

Raven Silverwing: I`m doing very well Mike, thank you! I remember being a nobody back when you interviewed me for the first time. It's been quite a ride since then.

Interview Mike Cockburns: You just won the Challenge cup for the third time in your career. Three cups in a span of four seasons and in the five sseasons since you joined the SHL. How does it feel to have already achieved something every player wants to achieve atleast once in there life and already have done that three times so soon in your career?

Raven Silverwing: It feels really good. Ofcourse we wouldn't have won the cups without my amazing team mates for whom I am very grateful. You have no idea. I am very lucky to be a part of this team. Ofcourse I hope to win even more cups in my career, but most importantly I want to be around people I enjoy being around. A great LR is great to be in and it really helps keeping you going.

Interview Mike Cockburns: So how do you personally feel your career has been so far?

Raven Silverwing: That's a hard question to answer without seeming to cocky, but I would have to say I've had a great career so far. My rookie season wasn't that great, but I have learned and become a lot better since. I got really lucky to have amazing coaches in Montreal. Eggy and Ballerstorm really helped me grow into the
player I am today and I really wouldn't be here without them. While they were maybe a bit skeptical at first of my skills and how I would progress and there for being drafted so late in the draft. I am so happy they had the trust in me to pick me 30th overall that draft. 6 points in my first year wasn't much to make the mind of the doubters change. However all the time and work I put into myself clearly paid off by the time my sophmore junior season came around. Leading the smjhl in goals and points was such a crazy achievement after the year I had previously. My third and final season down there was a good one aswell. No scoring leader for me that year, but another season of being the point leader felt good. We also won the four star cup that year which was an amazing experience. We had such a great group of people then and really glad to have won the cup with all of them. My years in the SHL have been very stable. My rookie season was a bit of a let down after my previous two season, but it was a very differnt atmosphere, so many greater players and I played four line again. I think that Ive been able to set a staple on my gameplay since the second season. 30 points a year has been a very good pace of production and after hitting 50 points this season I feel like I've placed myself among the greater players in the league.

Interview Mike Cockburns: How about your future? You are heading into the final year of your 5 season contract with the New England Wolfpack. What can we expect this season and the next seasons?

Raven Silverwing: While I really enjoy my time in New England. There is a part of me who might want to see what else is around the league. So I will probably be testing out FA this season and see who in the league would want a piece of the silverwing. Although don't rule out a chance of me staying with the pack. It's too early to really tell what is going to happen in the future. Retiring with the Wolfpack is a wish for grandpa Raven though. Looking at next season however I want to continue the way way I played this season. I had nice defensive game and being ppg felt good. So hopefully I can keep my scoring pace up and maybe compete with the big boys next season when it comes down to point leader.

Interview Mike Cockburns: Let's talk real life Raven. How is your private life?

Raven Silverwing: My private life? Hey, it's called private for a reason right hah? I mean life is good honestly. I`m enjoying the single life right now. I have been focusing on hockey too much. It's affected by hockey game, but also my social game. I do want to meet a nice girl and start a family in the future.

Interview Mike Cockburns: A family? Can we expect another Silverwing in the SHL some day?

Raven Silverwing: *laughs* We`ll have to see if the little bugger like hockey then. I can't force my kid to play something he doesn't like. But if he loves the sport and wants to play I`ll make sure he get's the best training, but that's ofcourse going to be a long time in the future.

Interview Mike Cockburns: Thank you so much for the interview Mister Silverwing. I hope to speak to you again soon.

Raven Silverwing: Thanks again for having me Mike. It has been a blast.

Seasonal breakdown:

S26 - Rookie Season - SMJHL - Montreal Impact

The transision from the english youth hockey league to the SMJHL was a rough one for Raven Silverwing. Drafted by the Montreal Impact, Raven found himself on the 4th line behind many great players. Despite his best efforts in the hard and long training sessions. He found himself not having a great year. A total of 5 points was all Silverwing was able to gather in the 50 games he played that season. Despite his preformence on the ice during games, his preformence on the ice during training was tremendous. People had passed on him due to his unknown status. No bank, no posts, just new to hockey. Would he stick around? People weren't going to find out until next season how big of a miss swing they had made passing up on the young brit. Raven's first award was the S26 Laurifer cup, won due to Montreal's first place finish in the league. This first place finish ended up not meaning much in the playoffs. As the Impact was beaten in 5 games. Raven didn't record a single point in this play off series. His preformence would not stop him from getting an absolute draft. From 30th in the smjhl draft down to 7th overall in the SHL one. The New England Wolfpack felt that Raven would be a player they could rely on in the future and wanted to lock him up.

S26 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 4 Goals scored, 1 Assist assisted, 5 points total, plus/minus of -6, 8 Penalty minutes, 33 hits, 15 shots taken and 2 shots blocked.
Playoffs: 5 Games Played, 0 Goals scored, 0 Assists assisted, 0 points total, plus/minus of -1, 2 Penalty minutes, 3 Hits, 4 shots taken and 0 shots blocked.

S27 - Sophmore Season - SMJHL - Montreal Impact

Season 27 would mark the season Silverwing would grow into the offensive powerhouse we know and love today. His preformance in S26 would leave much to be desired and many scouts and gm's were glad they had passed on this player. However little would they know Baller, Eggy and the Montreal Impact would have the last laugh. All the hours of training he had clocked would finally pay off. Silverwing was also named captian this season and would wear the C with much pride. In an explosive season Raven Silverwing would put up a total of 62 points. A record number of points which wouldn't be broken until Season 32, when Reed Laing would post 67 points and Alex Light 63 points. However Silverwing's record did surive 5 seasons until finally broken. He would also post a recordholding 33 goals, which was also broken in season 32 by Alex Light. A moment everyone would realise. Whoops we drafted the wrong guy. Silverwing however does stay modest and says he would have never been this good if it wasn't for his GM Ballerstorm. The Impact would have another Laurifer Throphy winning year and this time they made it too the finals. Where they were trumped by a 155 TPE goalie. Fucking sim bullshit. A 21 points playoff run in 17 games put Silverwing's name in the clutch category. He could preform for his team when it really mattered. This season also marked a season in which he would receive a few awards. The Zach Miller Trophy for most dedicated player, Ideen Fallah Award for MVp voted by the awards committee, Jared Hanson Trophy for most points and also the Roberto Martucci Trophy for most goals. There was one big award still missing in his trophy case and that would be the Four Star cup. However season 28 might be his season for this cup.

S27 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 33 Goals Scored, 29 Assists Assisted, 62 Points total, plus/minus of 19+, 38 penalty minutes, 44 Hits, 212 Shots taken and 12 Shots blocked.
Playoffs: 17 Games played, 12 Goals scored, 9 Assists Assisted, 21 Points total, plus/minus of -2, 0 Penalty minutes, 19 Hits, 68 Shots taken and 4 Shots blocked.

S28 - One more year in the minors - SMJHL - Montreal Militia

The Montreal Impact would go through a rebrand before the season started. They traded the old logo and name for a new logo and the name 'Militia'. This was a change that people either hated or loved. Silverwing would be supportive on the change Montreal went through and made sure to always wear the name and logo in great honor. He would be given the C on his jersey again for this season and so Captain Silverwing and crew embarked on the journey of winning a damn cup in his last year down in the SMJHL. His total points at the end of the season might not have been as explosive as in the previous year, but with 53 points it would be enough to lead the league in points once more. For the first time in his career Montreal would not win the Laurifer trophy, but that would not matter much in the end. In 14 games the Militia stormed through the playoffs and would win the first Four Star Cup under the name of the Montreal Militia. Captain Silverwing would lift the cup and with that would close this chapter in his life. The SHL was lurking for him and he was ready for the challenge. Silverwing would once again win the Zach Miller trophy and the Jared Hansen. He was also awarded the Damien Littleton award, the award for most dedicated SHL and the Elias Armia award awarded to the MVP according to commish.

S28 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 20 Goals Scored, 33 Assists Assisted, 53 Points total, plus/minus of 22+, 16 penalty minutes, 48 Hits, 185 Shots taken and 9 Shots blocked.

Playoffs: 14 Games played, 6 Goals scored, 6 Assists Assisted, 12 Points total, plus/minus of 5, 8 Penalty minutes, 27 Hits, 59 Shots taken and 4 Shots blocked.

S29 - Rookie season in the big boy league - SHL - New England Wolfpack

Raven felt it was time to move up to the SHL. He had recorded two records in the SMJHL and won the cup. The SHL would offer a new challenge and boy, would it end up being a very challenging first year. Because that transision from basicly picking on little kids in the SMJHL to now playing with grownass men. It did not click well with Silverwing. From 50+ point seasons he went down to a 7 point season. 2 goals and 5 assists. He just was not able to hit his shots. He had only 2 goals on 80 shots taken. Clearly the SHL goalies were way more advanced than the SMJHL ones. They covered up every little crook and crany they could. More flexible, faster hands, faster skating. It was a little too much for Silverwing at first. The Wolfpack would not qualify for playoffs this season. Silverwing did not let this season bother him though. If you do not succeed at first, try harder, get better and keep trying. And that is what he would end up doing. Almost like he was back in that season 26, he had to keep improving himself.

S29 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 2 Goals Scored, 5 Assists Assisted, 7 Points total, plus/minus of -9, 11 penalty minutes, 38 Hits, 80 Shots taken and 3 Shots blocked.
Playoffs: DNQ

S30 - Sophmore season in the SHL - SHL - New England Wolfpack

It was time to bounce back from last season and show the Wolfpack why they drafted him. Silverwing would be promoted to Assistent Captain and with the letter 'A' on his jersey he was ready to take on the SHL. With 31 points it wasn't quite his breakout season, but it were much better numbers than the ones posted last season. He however did start gaining a following in the Wolfpack fan community. Season 30 marked the first experience with SHL playoff hockey and what an experience it would be. In only 14 games the Wolfpack would secure their second cup in club history and with that the first for Silverwing. 2 seasons in the SHL and his 5th season in general and he would already be lifting the cup proudly above his head. A trip to the super soft wooly sheep farm with the cup would follow. Silverwing almost went point per game in the playoffs logging 13 points 6 of which were goals and 7 assists.

S30 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 13 Goals Scored, 18 Assists Assisted, 31 Points total, plus/minus of 9, 0 penaltyminutes, 10 Hits, 176 Shots taken and 13 Shots blocked.

Playoffs: 14 Games played, 6 Goals Scored, 7 Assists Assisted, 13 Points total, plus/minus of 13, 0 penalty minutes, 1 Hits, 47 Shots taken and 4 Shots blocked.

S31 - Breakout season - SHL - New England Wolfpack

After winning the cup and having a very solid sophmore season the stars were shining bright for Raven. He had showed the SHL that he can mean buisness and this season he wanted to show that he means alot of buisness and buisness he would mean. In his thrid year as a player for the Wolfpack, Silverwing would truely validate the 7th overall which was used on him. In breakout fashion he scored 47 points making him 3 points shy of being point per game. A plus/minus of 15 showcased his defensive abilities and would help alot with his second playoff run. This time around the Wolfpack struggled a little bit more on their way to the cup, but in 19 games they managed to lock down back to back cups and with that their 3rd cup in history. In the playoffs Raven would go point per game slamming 19 points onto his scoresheet before lifting the cup with the lads and laddettes. Another trip to the super soft wooly sheep farm with the cup was had.

S31 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 20 Goals Scored, 27 Assists Assisted, 47 Points total, plus/minus of 15, 0 penalty minutes, 4 Hits, 182 Shots taken and 11 Shots blocked.

Playoffs: 19 Games played, 8 Goals Scored, 11 Assists Assisted, 19 Points total, plus/minus of 5, 17 penalty minutes, 2 Hits, 56 Shots taken and 4 Shots blocked.

S32 - Back down to earth season - SHL - New England Wolfpack

Following his 47 point season, Raven came back down to earth and posted a 39 point season. His fourth year as a Wolfpack member and in the hearts of all the fans. Follow up on his previous year Silverwing would score 20 goals again, but this time around only 19 assists to finish the season with 39 points. One thing to take away from this all though is his plus/minus stat. Some people say it doesn't matter, but I like to look at it as a stat that tells you how well you've played with your team on the ice. This year Raven had a plus minus of plus 20 which showcases a strong case of defense aswell as offense. The Wolfpack went on another playoff hunt, but in the second round they bumped into a powerful Manhattan Rage squad. Wolfpack swept off their feets and for the first time in 3 seasons not in the finals of the cup. No super soft wooly sheep farm for Raven this year around.

S32 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 20 Goals Scored, 19 Assists Assisted, 39 Points total, plus/minus of 20, 7 penalty minutes, 8 Hits, 190 Shots taken and 2 Shots blocked.

Playoffs: 11 Games played, 2 Goals Scored, 3 Assists Assisted, 5 Points total, plus/minus of 0, 0 penalty minutes, 1 Hits, 54 Shots taken and 3 Shots blocked.

S33 - Point per game season baby - SHL - New England Wolfpack

Season 33 was another season in which Silverwing was able to show how well of a plyer he is. As he goes into his second last year of his current contract he wants to show his gm and maybe potential FA gm's what he can still do. A 26 goal season was good enough for 7th overall in scoring adding in 24 assists a total of 50 points was achieved. Good for 11th overall in points. The Wolfpack squad had a strong season and ended up winning the presidents trophy and with that another playoff run. 2 cups out of the last 3, they were looking to add a 3rd in the fourth run. In round one the Buffalo Stampede, who qualified for the post season for the first time, were chomped down in 5 games, Silverwing started game 1 off with a hat trick and an assits for a total of 4 points that night. Followed by a game misconduct in the second game, which he aquired only moments into the game. He had been on the ice for about 3 minutes when he got sent away by the ref. The cursed toronto stars followed in the second round, a tough opponent who brought the wolfpack to a game 7, before lighting out and dying off. Then came the dragons of Calgary, a very worthy opponent. With a hat trick in game 3, Silverwing really came thought for the team. As they defeated the dragons in 6. Cup numbero three for Raven and another trip to the super wooly sheep farm was put into motion. Now Raven will head into S34 with alot in his mind. Where will he end up? We willl find out soon enough.

S33 Stats:
Regular: 50 Games played, 26 Goals Scored, 24 Assists Assisted, 50 Points total, plus/minus of 14, 33 penalty minutes, 16 Hits, 209 Shots taken and 9 Shots blocked.

Playoffs: 18 Games played, 9 Goals Scored, 10 Assists Assisted, 19 Points total, plus/minus of 14, 21 penalty minutes, 7 Hits, 72 Shots taken and 2 Shots blocked.
