Realism in the SHL: Reality or Myth

Yeah, in game fatigue is certainly on. I don't believe you can turn season fatigue on without turning injuries on in the sim, which no one wants to have to deal with.

It's easy to do, though: injury slider at 1 or 2, every players' DU goes to 99, Injury Recovery at 6.

Did a test sim with the season starting lines, made it so no teams had players on more than a single line (other than 4th lines for defensemen because those don't exist IRL and Kian Hamilton because Manhattan doesn't have 12 forwards).

The top 10 players in minutes all have more minutes played than the number 1 minute-getter in the test sim.

The only problem with this is that I made adjustments based on assumed ice time allocation with 4x3 lines, and GMs could very possibly tweak their own lines to make it so their top players play a lot more often.

Would love to do a sim where GMs follow these rules as a test and try to get their top players as much ice time as possible. Could they feasibly do it?

What were your line %s?
A league with those numbers would be healthier imo

There are some balanced lines, some not. Of course, the first reaction to some of these lines (like Edmonton's and Minnesota's) would be "well that just means that the top lines are going to get way more ice time! That actually doesn't end up happening. The sim balances the four lines accordingly and while it tries to emulate the ice time allocation, it doesn't allow you to just play your first line 50% of the game.

Edmonton Blizzard
Code:
Lines # - Real PCT - Wanted PCT - Time Play
Normal Forward
1 - 36% - 49% - 20:14
2 - 28% - 33% - 15:38
3 - 25% - 18% - 14:10
4 - 11% - 0% - 6:00
Normal Defense
1 - 38% - 45% - 21:23
2 - 31% - 30% - 17:15
3 - 28% - 15% - 15:41
4 - 3% - 10% - 1:43

Minnesota Chiefs
Code:
Lines # - Real PCT - Wanted PCT - Time Play
Normal Forward
1 - 38% - 52% - 18:32
2 - 30% - 36% - 14:33
3 - 18% - 7% - 8:51
4 - 15% - 5% - 7:14
Normal Defense
1 - 39% - 50% - 19:18
2 - 31% - 25% - 15:14
3 - 26% - 13% - 12:54
4 - 4% - 12% - 1:44

Again, this is only me allocating the ice time quickly, and GMs could potentially find loopholes. I think we should at least do test sims with GMs being constrained by the "no doubleshifting" rule and see if when letting GMs choose their lines they will be able to get their best players tons of ice time.

There are some balanced lines, some not. Of course, the first reaction to some of these lines (like Edmonton's and Minnesota's) would be "well that just means that the top lines are going to get way more ice time! That actually doesn't end up happening. The sim balances the four lines accordingly and while it tries to emulate the ice time allocation, it doesn't allow you to just play your first line 50% of the game.

Edmonton Blizzard
Code:
Lines # - Real PCT - Wanted PCT - Time Play
Normal Forward
1 - 36% - 49% - 20:14
2 - 28% - 33% - 15:38
3 - 25% - 18% - 14:10
4 - 11% - 0% - 6:00
Normal Defense
1 - 38% - 45% - 21:23
2 - 31% - 30% - 17:15
3 - 28% - 15% - 15:41
4 - 3% - 10% - 1:43

Minnesota Chiefs
Code:
Lines # - Real PCT - Wanted PCT - Time Play
Normal Forward
1 - 38% - 52% - 18:32
2 - 30% - 36% - 14:33
3 - 18% - 7% - 8:51
4 - 15% - 5% - 7:14
Normal Defense
1 - 39% - 50% - 19:18
2 - 31% - 25% - 15:14
3 - 26% - 13% - 12:54
4 - 4% - 12% - 1:44

Again, this is only me allocating the ice time quickly, and GMs could potentially find loopholes. I think we should at least do test sims with GMs being constrained by the "no doubleshifting" rule and see if when letting GMs choose their lines they will be able to get their best players tons of ice time.

I really like this idea
