Minnesota Chiefs Season 38 Captain Announcement
With the start of Season 38 just days away, we are excited to announce the new captains for the Minnesota Chiefs! Coming off the franchise’s best regular season finish since Season 30, the mood is highly optimistic among the Chiefs faithful as the team once again returns as among the favorites to take home the Challenge Cup. These new captains have the full support and confidence of their teammates, the winners of a vote held after the team’s final practice of the pre-season. All three men assigned with this responsibility have certainly earned their new positions, have proven that they are committed to the franchise, and will do their best to lead this team to victory. Starting off with the captain, we have a guy drafted by the Chiefs many seasons ago, and who has been a constant and essential part of the franchise for the past seventeen seasons in Alonzo Garbanzo. Drafted second overall way back in the Season 21 SHL Entry Draft, Garbanzo has proven to be an ageless wonder as he has been considered among the very best players in the league for more than ten seasons now. A constant presence on the Chiefs blueline, Garbanzo may have lost a step but still has elite talent and the experience to make up for anything he has lost. The Chiefs lifer, entering his eighteenth season with the franchise, will finally be getting the recognition he deserves as the captain, receiving overwhelming support from his teammates. Now for the first alternate, we have a much younger yet still very important player to the team. In fact, despite being drafted just six seasons ago, he has established himself as a leader both on and off the ice and is already ninth on the franchise’s all-time scoring list. The first alternate is none other than Season 32 draftee, forward Terrance Nova! With a strong balance of aging veterans and developing youth on the roster, Nova has already established himself as one of the team’s top offensive threats. A great motivator, the young forward is just entering his prime and very soon may see his name become synonymous with the Minnesota Chiefs as accolades and awards begin to pile up. Finally, we have our second alternate captain and the resident old man of the team. While this guy was brought into Minnesota via free agency this off-season, he is no stranger to the Chiefs. In fact, he is fourth on the team’s all-time scoring list and was drafted by Minnesota with the twelfth overall selection in the Season 20 SHL Entry Draft. Despite taking an eight year hiatus from the team, Pedro Sarantez is receiving a warm welcome back to Minnesota for his retirement tour, looking to cap off his highly successful career with a Challenge Cup back where it all began. Despite being a new face to many as only Garbanzo, Pretty Flacko, and Koroviev have played with Sarantez before, he has quickly earned the respect of his teammates, new and old, being voted in as one of the team’s leaders for his final season of his career. Under the well-deserved leadership of Alonzo Garbanzo, Terrance Nova, and Pedro Sarantez, the Minnesota Chiefs are surely destined for a successful Season 38. With a deep and talented team, these three will be tasked with keeping the team on track and leading them to a championship. While it’s been 25 seasons since the franchise last won the Challenge Cup, the mood in Minnesota is extremely positive as the team once again looks to be one of the strongest in the SHL. ArGarBarGar sarmo EuroCap
