First Article Bonus

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

The Anchorage Daily Newspaper sat down with the Captain of their newly relocated franchise, the Anchorage Armada of the SMJHL.

ADN Thank you for taking time to speak with us, now that the dust has settled and the fans are finally starting to jump on the wagon we felt it would be a great time for them to get to know a little more about their captain.

McLovin Oh, absolutely. Thank you for the opportunity to speak! I would just like to say how happy I am to be here and how excited I am to be playing in front of these wonderful people in such a beautiful city. I want to personally thank them for their support.

ADN Lovely. There's a lot of excitement being generated around your team. Since you joined the franchise in S40, you have not been a playoff team, in fact, you've hardly really challenged for a playoff spot. Now the team sits in one of the playoff seeds. The fans are obviously excited about a potential playoff run for the Armada, but what is the mood of your teammates because of your position in the standings?

McLovin Well, yeah, thanks for reminding me about those years [Laughs]. It's exciting. The guys that I've been with the previous two seasons like Blue and Dimmadome are extremely excited. The guys we added in S41 know a little of our pain but they're excited also. This years rookies don't know our frustration but they are ready look to be motivated enough to help us and do whatever they can to be the best players they can be. We're all excited, and we're all trying to prove ourselves. Management was very honest with me when they first signed me as a free agent in S40 after I missed the SMJHL draft, and they've delivered on their promise on making us a good team in a couple years. We're excited and we feel that @ml002 has done a great job and we want to do everything we can to bring a championship here during our eligible time.

ADN There was a recent article posted about older members not being all too thrilled with the relocation of Prince George to Anchorage, would you like to comment on this?

McLovin Uh, well. This obviously is a sticky subject, and everyone will always have an opinion on everything. I don't really know too much about the history of this site. All I can say is that I'm excited to be here in Anchorage, and I want to create a winning culture here. I feel we can be very successful here. Also, on a less serious note, I actually like the color scheme, logo, and jerseys better, but that's just me!

ADN Your line started out to a very slow start to the season. In fact, your line was the only complaint fans had. Last sim you guys looked to play a little better, do you feel that this is something that can be turned around?

McLovin It was something that was being complained about in the locker room too! I'm not too worried about it. I'm playing with two Rookies, who if they stay up with their PT's and updates, will only get better. I'm a defensive forward, who can pass and hit. I'm not going to light the lamp. I think we're building towards being a really good trio we just need the attributes applied. So fans, I apologize for the frustration but patience is a virtue I promise.

ADN Looks like Blue is getting called up to Seattle soon.. how does that make you feel?

McLovin I'm excited for him. It's a tremendous achievement that I can't wait to do someday. It's going to hurt for the games we're up for sure, i mean he's the reigning goalie of the year in the SMJHL. But it seems like he'll be back with the team to get us through the remainder of the season so we'll be alright. Congrats Blue!

ADN How much of an honor is it to be named captain of the Armada in their inaugural season here in Anchorage?

McLovin Oh it's awesome. Even more so that it was via team vote. To have management and teammates think that highly of me means so much, and motivates me to be better for them. I want to do great things for this franchise and for this city, and as captain I feel that falls on my shoulders first, and that's a responsibility I'm ready to carry.

ADN You played pretty well in the World Junior Classic this off season, although the team failed to win a medal. How was the overall experience for you?

McLovin I mean, I had fun. Sure I would have loved to win a medal but after losing in the Bronze medal game in S40, I feel we were in a bit of a transition period in this last one. At the end of the day I was just excited to wear the Red, White, and Blue, and would like to thank @CaptainCrazy for the opportunity to play and hope I'm given the opportunity again.

ADN One last question, how are you liking the city of Anchorage?

McLovin I love it. It's a beautiful city. I've never been here before the relocation but it's quickly becoming home. I spend a lot of my free time exploring Chugach State Park. I love walking outside and seeing the mountains that are just so overwhelming. I know my eligibility in the SMJHL has reached it's midway point, and I can't play here forever. But I hope to someday come back. It's a great city, and this is a great franchise. Our new fans should be very excited.

The Armada brand has really been growing on me after each game and article.

Was indifferent to it before, but the more I see it the more I like it.
