The British Isles squad this year is looking extremely promising, with 4 very solid lines featuring some top SMJHL players, and 3 defence pairings featuring some of the top SHL prospects who are rumoured to be taken in round one of the draft. Don't forget the stars of the show, the goaltenders. Robinson will once again take the starting goalie position, with Vincent taking the role of back-up.
We reached out to some of the players to get their thoughts on being selected for such a prestigious event.
"Oh snap I made it... It’s an honor to be chosen for my first international roster I hope I won’t let the front office or country down!" -Jimmy Slothface
It's worth noting that Slothface specifically said honour without the "u." Our reporters were quick to correct him, mostly with the fear of his citizenship being revoked on the line.
"I'm so excited to play my second tourney with the British isles team for WJC. Lets go get that gold!" - Mika Mayfield
"Yeah our GMs say it's all about having fun but that's not why I'm here. I'm in it to win it, and I've been told that if we win gold I get to be bilbo's friend, so there's a lot on the line." - Guy Zheng
The commissioner of the tournament also came around the rink spouting a load of bollocks about USA getting another medal and beating the Brits or something. Everyone assumed he had something going on mentally and left him to it.
We also reached out to the GM's chosen for this year to hear their thoughts on the team this year.
"We have a talented bunch playing Hockey in the UK now, the better our guys do the more kids will want to get into the sport. It's a positive feedback loop. We had the squad last year for a strong medal finish but we couldn't capitalise. I think this year we can go all the way to a gold." - Ed Balls (GM)
"We have two S47 rookies joining our team this year, and I hope we can make a good impression on them and give them some exciting first games in the league. I hope we all have fun out there because that's what matters at the end of the day. Also we're winning gold even if Slash tries to rig the sim for the US". - George Zhang (co-GM)
