Top s46 Prospects, Bottom 5 teams
#1

Hopefully this is in time for the hardworking GM’s.

Since it felt like a cop out, and lazy to only do the top 5 teams; here is by popular demand here, the best S46 prospects among the bottom 5 teams in the SMJHL. I also rushed it a bit for the draft. (3435 Words, 2x SHL Draft, Research etc.)

6th St Louis Scarecrows (Cup Champs)

  1. Gordie Boomhover (LW) 293 TPE
First up for the cup champions is Gordie Boomhover hailing from the Netherlands. Boomhover played 1st line left wing for the Scarecrows and played around 15 minutes a game. He led his fellow rookies with 12 goals. 2 of those were game winners. In total, Boomhover had 25 points. He led his fellow rookies in shots with 90. Boomhover played on the power play heavily. Is also not scared to dish out a hit. Boomhover kept up his quality play in the playoffs keeping up his pace with 11 points. Boomhover tied for 2nd in goals with 6 in the playoffs. He had a 1.02 P/20 in the playoffs.
Boomhover is a 6 foot 1, 188 pound sniper with strengths in; Scoring, Skating, and Puck Handling. His weakness is checking. Boomhover looks to me like a great pick for any team looking for scoring depth on the wings, stock should rise since he came clutch in the playoffs

  1. Michael Fox (RW) 279 TPE
With a little less TPE than Boomhover, Michael Fox is next up who is a natural right winger hailing from the USA. Fox played 3rd line right wing but played around 16 and half minutes a game. Fox finished with a respectable 17 points and 8 goals and a rookie leading +4 rating and only 10 penalty minutes. Fox also played a bit on the special teams but did not get a lot of time. Fox is clutch period. Came out with 12 points in the playoffs to lead all rookies in playoff points on the Scarecrows. He is a dynamic player in that he played wing all season then got center duty and broke a plateau.
Fox is a 5 foot 11, 185 pound, playmaker with strengths in; Passing, Puck Handling, and Skating. Like almost everyone else his only weakness is checking. Another strong pick from the Scarecrows. There seems to be less playmakers than snipers in the greater than 275 TPE range so maybe Fox is drafted earlier than expected.

  1. Basil Magnicotta (D) 256 TPE
The only defensemen on the Scarecrows is the Swiss born Basil Magnicotta. Magnicotta played on the bottom pairing for the Scarecrows averaging only 12 minutes a game. Despite this limited ice time he excelled getting 16 points and 5 goals giving him a nice .50 P/20. 6 of his points were on the power play in which he played a lot. In the playoffs Magnicotta further developed his game. Magnicotta got a couple more minutes of ice time and managed 8 points and 4 goals.
Magnicotta is a 6 foot 1, 205 pound offensive defenseman with strengths in; Scoring, Skating, and Puck Handling. With his weakness being checking. Look for Magnicotta to be a high 3rd round pick as he might be passed over by the large amount of top end d man.

  1. Tyler Tougard (RW) 255 TPE

Last up for the Scarecrows is their leading rookie scorer from Sweden; Tyler Tougard. Tougard is a large natural right wing that played 16 minutes a game on the 3rd line. Tougard had 29 points and 11 goals. Tougard was tied for 2nd on the team with 14 power play points.Tougard led his fellow rookies in shooting percentage with 14.47%. In the playoffs Tougards production tailed off a bit however, Tougard managed 6 goals which tied him with Boomhover among rookies on the Scarecrows. Tougard lost some ice time in the playoffs. Again Tougard is an extremely accurate and selective shooter rocking a 27.7 shooting percent in the playoffs leading his whole team.
Tougard is a 6 foot 3, 237 pound sniper with strengths in; Scoring, Skating, and Defense. Going with the running theme Tougard is weak in checking. Tougard is a tough pick to predict but with high production I can see a team taking a chance on him despite other higher TP earners above him.

7th Colorado Raptors

  1. Michael Scarn © 300 TPE
Secret agent Michael Scarn stars off the Colorado Raptors. Scarn is a Czech Republic born, natural center that played 3rd line left wing for the Raptors in the playoffs as well. Scarn averaged around 14 and a half minutes a game in the regular season playing regularly on the power play. He led his fellow rookies in +/ with a +10. Scarn finished with 19 points and 6 goals and only 10 penalty minutes. While playing left wing in the playoffs  Scarn got 11 points in 16 playoff games at 19 minutes a game.
Scarn is a 6 foot 1, 195 pound sniper with strengths in; Scoring, Skating, and Puck Handling. His weakness is checking. Scarn is a high value pick who has played a scoring role as a center and a left wing. Less of a pure scorer and more of a complete player that has a scoring knack.

  1. Nick Brain (RW) 291 TPE
Next up is the massive off hand right winger; Nick Brain. Hailing from the United Kingdom Brain played 3rd line right wing, and only had 10 minutes a game with no special teams for most of the season. Despite this Brain managed 13 points and 7 goals. Brain is an aggressive player with a team rookie leading 54 penalty minutes, rookie leading 71 hits, and only took 15 hits. Brain took 77 shots. Brain blossomed in the playoffs with 15 minutes a game, 6 goals and 10 points moving to the natural left wing, he also was a +8 tied for 2nd on the Raptors. Again all done with no special teams.
Brain is a 6 foot 4, 228 pound power forward with strengths in; Strength, Skating, and Scoring. Brain selected passing as a weakness as he loves to dish the body. Brain is potentially the biggest steal in the draft. From my older article, it seems high end, bigger, aggressive players are rare  this draft. Look for smaller teams needing size up front to be high on Brain.

  1. Knute Knurtsson © 288 TPE
Another great name here, we have the Swedish born center; Knute Knurtsson. Knurtsson played 2nd line center for the Raptors and averaged only 12 minutes a game with some power play time. Despite this he managed a monstrous 25 points and 12 goals. Kurtsson was a +3, taking only 6 penalty minutes. To top it off Kurtsson has a 51.81% on the faceoffs and a 0.83 P/20 which I believe is one of the highest among all rookies. The only drawback is Knurtsson had struggles in the playoffs with more ice time. Knurtsson had 8 points in the 16 playoff games with a -5.
Knurtsson is a 6 foot 1, 198 pound, two-way forward with strengths in; Passing, Defense, and Skating. He has his weakness in checking. Kurtsson is another dark horse among this draft with good numbers to back up. Like power forwards there are less two-way forward centers available. A potential steal as teams usually pick for scoring earlier.

  1. Anastasia O’Koivu (D) 275 TPE
Last up is the only defensemen on the Raptors list; Anastasia O’Koivu. Hailing from Russia, O’Koivu played top pairing right defense playing 16 minutes a game playing heavy defensive minutes including penalty kill time. O’Koivu managed 5 points and 1 goal. 2nd among Raptor defensemen with 65 hits, and blocking a respectable 38 shots. In the playoffs O’Koivu struggled. O’Koivu’s ice time went up to 18 minutes a game. Playing more 5 on 5 O’Koivu’s +/- was -7 as it seems there was a mismatch in the playoffs somewhere for both O'Koivu and Knurtsson.
O’Koivu is a 5 foot 11, 165 pound defensive defensemen with strengths in; Defense, Strength, and Puck Handling. As a straight defender O’Koivu’s chosen weakness is scoring. I think O’Koivu is a tough pick to predict to me, but as a user with lots of activity, O’Koivu can easily be taken by a team looking for a solid future top 2 defensive defensemen with an all out offensive defesemen like Guy Zheng.

8th Anaheim Outlaws

  1. Mathias Seger (D) 277 TPE
Starting off the Outlaws is their Swiss defenseman Mathias Seger. Seger played top pairing duties playing almost 21 minutes a game with a big role on the penalty kill. Seger produced well with 17 points and 5 goals. Seger led his fellow rookies with 56 shots blocked also good for 2nd on the Outlaws. Not scared to give a hit with 40 hits. An accurate shooter with a 17.8 shooting %. Seger actually played the most amount for the Outlaws in total. The Outlaws relied on Seger a lot in the playoffs with him playing 22 minutes a game. Seger managed a point, stayed even, gave out 12 hits, and blocked 7 shots in 5 playoff games.
Seger is a 5 foot 11, 190 pound two-way defenseman with strengths in; Passing, Defense, and an interesting Discipline. Segers chosen weakness is scoring as he likes to pass first. Seger looks like a reliable option to choose who performed well in the season and stayed defensively sound in the playoffs. With no apparent weakness and speed to burn.

  1. Jerry “The Snake” Mander (RW) 274 TPE
Next up is the Python like snake Jerry Mander hailing from Russia and the USA. Mander played top line left wing playing 19 minutes a game, and regular special teams. Mander led his fellow rookies with 13 goals. Mander had a total of 23 points in the regular season. A brute on the ice, he had a team leading 110 hits. Which also places Mander 6th in the league in hits. Mander also led his rookies in shots with 86. Mander came alive in the playoffs with 5 points in their 5 games. A +4, no penalties, 15 hits, and 22 and half minutes a game. Mander is a big time player.
Mander is a 5 foot 10, 245 pound, power forward with strengths in; Strength, Scoring, and Skating. He loves burying goals and chose a weakness in passing. Mander is a great pick that I think will be taken early with such great performance and a long time user to boot. See him sneaking up ahead of other players with higher TPE.

  1. Mike Hunt (G) 270 TPE
The goliath in net from Austria; Mike Hunt. This guy is a giant in the net making you pick spots. Hunt split the starter role with a fellow rookie all season for the Outlaws. Goalies seem to be hardest to scout as numbers don’t give a great profile. Hunt seemed to perform below his peers with bottom 5 numbers in most categories. However unlike his peers he was tied for first in shutouts with 3, and also did not get beaten on a penalty shot. With the Outlaws having a relatively poor season with 16 out of 28  losses alone for Hunt it’s hard to tell where he will go. Hunt only started one game in the playoffs.
Hunt is a 6 foot 11, 240 pound hybrid goalie with strengths in; Style Control, Hand Speed, and Reaction Time. Hunt’s size is his game and he has a weakness in agility. With a high TPE build, large size, and likely high demand for young goalies Hunt could be snagged early despite his poor season numbers.

  1. Collin Gibbles (RW) 268 TPE
Last up for the Outlaws is their 2nd line left wing; Collin Gibbles. Gibbles hailing from the USA played around 17 minutes a game with special teams time as well, but more emphasis on power play. Gibbles led his fellow rookies with 29 points. This ties him for 7th with Tougard for rookie points this past season. Gibbles contributed 9 goals. An all around player Gibbles stayed even, gave out a 53 hits, and was right behind Mander with 80 shots. Gibbles only downside is he struggled offensively in the playoffs only managing an assist with almost 20 minutes of playing time.
Gibbles is a 6 foot, 230 pound two-way forward with strengths in; Passing, Defense, and Puck Handling. Gibbles prefers to read plays and choose a weakness in checking. Gibbles is a great pick with great upside. I can see him being one of the first two-way wingers to be taken in this draft.

9th Halifax Raiders

  1. Perry Morgan (D) 300 TPE
First up for the Raiders is their top defensemen Perry Morgan. Morgan, from the UK is the top pairing defensemen on the Raiders and played almost 18 minutes a game. Playing some penalty kill, Morgan managed 14 points and 2 goals. Morgan stayed +2 on another team with a losing record and a -33 team differential. Morgan is another aggressive player and took 89 penalty minutes, 85 hits. Morgan also blocked a respectable 47 shots. Morgan continued his steady play in the playoffs with 6 pints in 11 games. He led the team with 13 blocked shots in the playoffs playing almost 21 minutes a game.
Morgan is a 6 foot 2, 250 pound offensive defenseman with strengths in; Passing, Puck Handling, and Defense. Despite his large size Morgan chose a weakness in checking. Morgan is a interesting prospect as he should go earlier. But might fall as other prospects of similar TPE will be taken as they were on winning teams with more points to give out.

  1. Matt Kholin © 290 TPE
Next up for the Raiders is their 2nd line center; Matt Kholin. Hailing from Canada, superstar center Kholin is a obvious blue chip prospect with a league rookie lead of 32 points. Kholin beat Kyllonen with 15 goals. Not scared to take a shot with 109 shots all season. Kholin played 17 minutes a game with heavy power play duty. Kholin’s only struggles seem to be 5 on 5 as he went -7. Kholin again continued his strong play with 10 points in 11 games in the playoffs, 22 minutes a game, 17 shooting%, and a decent -1. Kholin leaves a bit to be desired in the faceoffs with only a 47% in the faceoffs in the regular season.
Kholin is a 6 foot 1, 205 pound playmaker with strengths in; Passing, Puck Handling, Skating and a weakness in checking. Kholin is a top 10 pick and might jump up the board with his elite offense.

     2.   Jimmy Slothface (RW) 290 TPE

Tied with Kholin in TPE is Kholin’s left winger; Jimmy Slothface. A Finnish born winger, Slothface grabbed 27 points and 11 goals with 18 minutes a game in the regular season. Slothface played regular powerplay time. Slothface led his team with a +3. Remember this is a team with a -33 goal differential. A disciplined played who also led his rookies with 119 shots all season. Slothface got a lot more responsibility in the playoffs playing almost 21 minutes a game. Slothface managed 7 points and 2 goals and stayed even.
Slothface is a 6 foot 1, 200 pound sniper with strengths in; Scoring, Skating, Puck Handling and a weakness in checking. Slothface is another great valued pick that produced and was great defensively in both the playoffs and regular season. I feel many of the Raiders rookies stock are low based on team performance.

     4.   Mike McKorsy (G) 283 TPE

Another goalie on this list comes the German, Mike McKorsy. McKorsy like Hunt struggled mightily with a losing record on the team stat line. McKorsy played in 42 games starting all 42 of said games. The Raiders played a high flying offensive game and McKorsy face 1048 shots placing him 5th. McKorsy is the definition of a workhorse. McKorsy raised his game in the playoffs grabbing 5 wins.
McKorsy is a 6 foot 2, 220 pound hybrid goalie with strengths in; Reaction Time, Style Control, Hand Speed. Again a larger goalie with a weakness in agility. McKorsy is an interesting take. Poor season, but a regular member so I can see him snagged earlier as he has a very high TPE for a goalie.

10th Lethbridge Lions

  1. Monkey D. Luffy © 305 TPE
First up for the Lions is leading TPE of the S46 class (as of Feb 16th) Monkey D. Luffy. Hailing from Canada this smaller center led his rookies with 31 points placing him 3rd league wide for rookie points. Luffy scored 15 goals. Luffy is an all around player who loves to take the body despite his smaller size. Luffy took an obnoxious amount of hits with 106 absorbed by the rookie. Luffy also dished out 56 hits and led his team in shots with 134. Luffy played 2nd line center and played upwards of 21 minutes a game, and regularly on special teams. Luffy was a -4 on the season on a Lion team with a -40 goal differential. The Lions only played 4 playoff games but Luffy still grabbed 3 points.
Luffy is a 5 foot 8, 175 pound offensive forward with strengths in; Scoring, Puck Handling, Passing. Like almost all offensive type players he chose a weakness in checking. Luffy is the clear cut top player in the draft on a objective level. Producing on a losing team, high TPE, and very high reputation for a newer SHL user. I can see Luffy being taken 1st overall. I think it’s between him and Cannellini.

  1. Brennan Kennedy Jr (D) 295 TPE
Next up is one of the best defensemen available, Brennan Kennedy Jr. Kennedy Jr. hails from Austria and played top pairing minutes for the Lions. Kennedy Jr. led his team in ice time with 22 and a half minutes a game. Kennedy Jr. produced 25 points and 5 goals. Kennedy Jr. plays all aspects of the game blocking 60 shots, dishing out 60 hits, and took 69 shots which led all Lion defensemen. Kennedy Jr.’s only outlier is his -10 plus/minus. Kennedy Jr. kept the status quo in the playoffs managing 2 points and going +1 in the 4 games played.
Kennedy Jr. is a 6 foot 4, 235 pound offensive defensemen with strengths in; Passing, Puck Handling, Defense. One of the fewer players to choose a weakness in strength. I see Kennedy Jr. being taken in the first round. A great prospect through and through.

  1. Jøln DuBølk (D) 273 TPE
Another defenseman from the Lions is the Swedish born; John DuBølk. DuBølk played 2nd pairing for the lions averaging close to 20 and a half minutes a game with heavy defensive duties and penalty kill time. DuBølk led his team in shots blocked with 78 and grabbed a respectable 15 points and 5 goals. DuBølk gave out 49 hits. DuBølk is not scared to fight with 2 majors given to DuBølk throughout the season. With his heavy defensive responsibilities DuBølk was punished in the +/1 and came out a -14. DuBølk tightened his game in the playoffs and grabbed a point. He also dished a team leading 10 hits in the playoffs, blocked 4 shots, and played almost 22 minutes a game.
DuBølk is a 6 foot 5, 210 pound defensive defenseman with strengths in; Defense, Strength, Skating. A defensive player through and through with a weakness in Scoring. DuBølk is a player that might fall as other higher end defensmen are taken. DuBølk  is a great option for a team looking for a strong player who can hold down defensive minutes

  1. Eva Lykke Aparjode (LW) 263 TPE
Last up for the Lions is their Latvian born, st line left winger Eva Lykke Aparjode. Aparjode played around 19 minutes a game and grabbed 25 points but an outstanding 15 goals. Another player who loves to shoot he was only behind Luffy in rookie shots among the Lions with 104. Aparjode played regularly on the power play. Like the other lion players Aparjode took a hit in +/- and came out a -11. Aparjode came alive in the playoffs grabbing 5 points in the 4 games the Lions played. Stayed a +2 all with 17 minutes a game.
Aparjode is a 6 foot 3, 190 pound offensive forward with strengths in; Scoring, Passing, Puck Handling, and a weakness in checking. Aparjode is a great value pick that has had great offensive success and had a great playoff performance to boot. Another dark horse pick.

There you have it the top 4 S46 rookies on each SMJHL team.
