S46 rookies: looking at individual SMJHL teams and their average TPE numbers

This is just another of these short statistics post since we all enjoy graphs and numbers, but from a different perspective. Using @"luketd" 's numbers (which can be found here if you want to look into it yourself - thanks btw!) for our current rookie class. I've had a look at all 10 SMJHL teams and every team's SMJHL S46 rookies incl. FA signings. We already know that the higher the rookie was drafted, the better they were doing and the more active they usually are, so there's nothing new here. I'd like to look at teams individually though. How well are the rookies doing and how do the teams rank? I hope this makes sense.

Rookie TPE average per team ranked highest to lowest:

What can we see here? Lethbridge's rookies have the highest average TPE number and obviously Thomas Bathory helped to raise this number by an impressive 267 TPE. Next up are Anaheim and Kelowna with almost identical numbers. Anaheim's numbers would be a lot better if their one draft bust (Gustav Steen, 155 TPE, 6th round pick) didn't drag their average down. Places four and give, also very close together, go to St Louis and Vancouver. The former had drafted one player that can be counted as a bust by now (Brolias Hawking, 156 TPE, 6th round pick) and the latter on the other hand is known for their huge rookie class (10 players incl. FA signings) of which probably only one player can truly be seen as a bust so far (Genghis Con, 159 TPE, 5th round pick). St Louis also has the best rookie right now with Filip Zadina (270 TPE). Next up is Colorado with a good mix of above average, average and also below average players, followed by Detroit with the largest rookie class this season. Of their 11 rookies both Gavin Francisco (155 TPE) and Caladan Brood (158 TPE) clearly look to be inactive by now.. Not far behind is Montreal with the smallest number of rookies (3). Here Dirk Von Grimmelshausen (165 TPE, 5th round pick) clearly looks like the bust of the group. The second lowest average number on this list goes to Anchorage. Two players are clearly busts at this point (Dawson Kennedy, 159 TPE, 5th round pick and FA Taylor Lights, 155 TPE), possibly three (Patrick Muller, 170 TPE, 6th round pick). The last place goes to Halifax with an average TPE of just above 200 and three busts (FA Jazon Viersaitl, 162 TPE, Kobe Krisp, 158 TPE, 5th round pick and Isaiah Reece, 159 TPE, 4th round pick).

Percentage of rookies above average:

Those above-mentioned numbers can also be grouped into totals. What's the actual percentage of rookies per team that are above average (still talking about TPE)? We can roughly split the ten teams into three groups here. The best group, ranked highest to lowest, are Anaheim (86%), Kelowna (75%) and Lethbridge (67%). Their rookies are doing rather well or even very well. The next group consists of 4 teams (Vancouver, St. Louis, Colorado, and Anchorage) and all of them are at 50%. That means half of their rookies are ranked above average while the other half (some of them busts) are ranked below average. The last group also consists of three teams again: Detroit (45%), Halifax (38%) and eventually Montreal (due to their small number of rookies) at 33%.

~~~
Obviously these numbers depend a lot on the number of rookies per team. Some teams have a lot of rookies like Vancouver or Detroit and then there's Montreal with only three. Lethbridge clearly only ranks very high, because none of their drafts were busts and all of them are above 210 TPE at the moment which means all of them are still relatively active and updating. To be part of the 'top 25 rookies' group right now, you would need to have at least 239 TPE (see overview here). Kelowna's numbers are similar, but one of their four rookies drags the average down a little, while the other three are very active. All players that can be see as busts at this points were also first time players which was to be expected. Recreates are obviously active, otherwise they wouldn't still be here.
Of course none of these numbers tell us how the players are actually doing in terms of scoring, but I didn't plan to compare those numbers with TPE. This was really just meant as a short overview. Please let me know if you see something wrong.
Great Article! Just so you know Filip Zadina is on the Scarecrows, not Detroit. Detroit sucks.
That's very offensive. We just beat Vancouver out.
