Hello Draftees, from New England!
I am the recently named co-GM of the New England Wolfpack and I am here to spread the word! Nearing the S47 SHL Draft, a lot of speculation will continue to rise on what will happen, who will get drafted, who will get traded for draft picks, who will go where and so on and so forth. New England currently holds the picks at 16th, 21st, and 25th overall in this upcoming draft and there are a lot of ways that the Pack could go! I have seen a few things negative on New England so felt compelled to make this just so people will hopefully see!
A lot of people either love or hate New England sports franchises and there is a lot of reason to both sides of the argument!
I for one, am from New England myself, having grown up in Western Massachusetts, but found myself usually on the side of the hating New England sports franchises.
The Celtics I never know, one minute they suck and nobody claims to be a Celtics fan when Andrew DeClerc, Dana Barros, and Antoine Walker are their best players. Then they go and get Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to join Paul Pierce and everyone is suddenly a Celtics fan. Celtics win because they screw other teams in their ways of trades. Making a fool out of Minnesota and Brooklyn in recent years. The New England Wolfpack are diligent with our trades. When we make them, they are first, for the good of our players both on the shipping and on the receiving end and second, to ensure league stability and not trying to go for franchise crippling trades. We aren't the Celtics, you can hate them, but don't compare them to us.
We, however, would love to have the success the Celtics do in terms of numbers of championships and being one of the storied franchises in the league with coaches that are hall of fame worthy such as Red Auerbach, but we want to do it right! By us, and most importantly, by you!
The New England Patriots are similar that no one in their right mind wore a Drew Bledsoe jersey when they were getting stomped every year, but in walks Belichick and Brady and some scandals and now they don't stop winning. Nobody can question their ability to put together a championship caliber roster even when they are questioned on possible cheating allegations. Most of the Patriots' hate comes from people who are sick of them winning.
Much like the Celtics, the Patriots exemplify winning in this day and age and while I can't stand it, I want my teams to win, I want the Wolfpack to win. I don't want people to accuse us of cheating like the Patriots but we can put a team together and do great things. One thing that the Patriots do better than anyone, is take guys who may not have the top skills but put them in their system and really make the best of them. We want to show that your hard work can make you a better player than others may think. Sure, maybe you slip in the draft, but if we pick you, we believe in you, we want you because we can win with you in our system. We want to win, develop great players and users, and have everyone hate us because we win a lot, not because of anything else.
The Red Sox again, similar, though less winning overall but more so recently, are a team that a lot of people don't like. They are constantly amongst the top spenders in baseball yet complain about the Yankees for "buying" championships, and usually thinking their average players are all-star level, *cough cough* Kevin Youkilis. There are stricter salary caps in hockey and in the SHL so we can't really be the Red Sox.
However, the Red Sox have done a great job developing homegrown players such as Dustin Pedroia, Mookie Betts, or Andrew Benintendi amongst others. We as a team in the competitive SHL want to develop talent based on draftees while also spending money on quality free agents to surround our great young talent that comes up. We don't want a championship drought as the Red Sox had, but we want to develop players to always be in a position to win. We aren't the Red Sox, but we want to help you develop into something great and our fans will think you are an all-star even if you are not playing like one during a cold stretch, so there is that!
The Boston Bruins are another storied franchise that have historically had a lot of success in the NHL. Recently, there has been some success but not consistently and a lot of people hate the Bruins for past successes and for them sometimes being called a dirty team. They hit hard and lick ears and play a physical brand of hockey that may get on a lot of people's nerves. In the SHL, we don't have an ear licking rating and hard hitters aren't usually as useful in the sim so the Wolfpack are not a dirty team, so don't compare us to what you don't like about the Bruins.
Instead, compare us to a team that wants success and has a lot of championship banners! We want you to come in and be the next Ray Bourque or Bobby Orr and have a hall of fame career and win some championships along the way. Most people will compare us to the Bruins because of the Hockey connection, and that is okay, but we want to stand for winning! Don't hate us because you hate the Bruins though, in this SHL Universe, just pretend they don't exist and that the Wolfpack are the only team in New England and that we play a clean style of hockey with an exemplary organization.
I wanted to just bring to light all the New England sports teams to both connect with fans of all the different sports and show what we as a New England sports franchise wants to be! We want to help you as a draftee or a free agent to be the best players in the league and win championships as well along the way. We do want to take some things from successful sports franchises as an example, and be looked at for all the right things. We would rather be the team that develops players, has hall of fame caliber coaches, drafts well, brings in the right free agents, and wins rather than being perceived as buyers of championships, getting accused of cheating, being a dirty team or anything else bad.
