This is my first media post, please be kind...
Also, I'm not sure, but I noticed that there is a 2x draft week hope this still counts His grandfather’s career lasted many years and went through many teams. He won the Stanley Cup with the storied Montreal Canadiens and was the first ever captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was a defensive defenseman, wore his heart on his jersey and was the ultimate teammate. The similarities between the young Lyle and his grandfather are many, same name, same position, same number, same work ethic, same willingness to do whatever is needed for the good of the team. Where their similarities differ is in their playing style. It took the senior Lyle 90 plus games to score his first goal in the big leagues, the younger Lyle will not have to wait that long. He is a scoring defender, a powerplay specialist and a teammate that would be a welcome addition to any locker room. He has shaped his game around players like Sheldon Souray, Shea Weber, Brain Leetch and Paul Coffey. He has been quoted as saying “My job is to keep pucks out of my net, and put them in theirs.”, he has done that throughout his young career and shows no sign of slowing down. During this years Prospect Showcase, his traits and abilities are already shining through. Through the first sixteen games of the showcase, Lyle’s offensive abilities have definitely been on display. Just shy of a point per game average, Lyle leads the defensive prospects in goals (4) and with 13 points overall, is in the top twenty for points of all skaters. Not only is Lyle staying true offensive abilities, he is also doing his part to make sure that his team doesn’t allow many goals to get past his goalie while he is on the ice. Sporting a +7 after 16 games he is in the top ten for all skaters. Not too shabby for a defender playing on a team that the worst overall goal differential. Now I understand that the showcase is not the end all be all, but this small glimpse of Lyle’s ability is a great chance for his potential draft team to see what they have in this player. His on-ice skill is only one part of the player you’ll get in Lyle, his dedication to his team and teammates are beyond compare. That is anpther trait that Lyle did take from his grandfather, and he shows it day in and day out. If you are looking for a hardworking player, that will do whatever he can to help his team win and a player that is willing to work on his game to improve his weaknesses and further his overall skill set, Lyle Odelein III is your man. Sidenote: Please do not check the math on the chance that the great Lyle Odelein could have a grandson getting ready to get drafted into the juniors. I guess technically it would be possible, but I prefer not to think Lyle had a kid in his teens, named him Lyle junior who then had another kid in his teens and named that son Lyle Odelein III. I just really liked Lyle when I was growing up for being such a great heart and soul player and wanted to think about him with a crap load more offensive skill, thus the creation of his grandson. ![]() Registered RyanPerlman |
