(First ever article, draft related) Interview with Simon LeBlanc Article by Mike McMikeface, from SHJLProspect.com
Montreal, Quebec
After the end of the Round Robin of the Prospect Showcase, here in Montreal, I’ve had the chance to talk to one of the local prospect, Simon LeBlanc from the Vipers. LeBlanc is a defensive defenseman that surprised every one during the tourney. Here’s the short interview that I managed to have with him.
Mike : Hi Simon, it’s a pleasure to have you with us.
Simon : Hey, pleasure to meet you.
M : So, let's start with how you felt going into to the Showcase.
S : I was super stressed, especially knowing that SMHJL scouts would be watching every move that I was going to do. But I didn’t let it bother me too much and I did what I knew I could do : play good hockey.
M : Are you satisfied with your performance?
S : I mean, I have to be right? I ended Round Robin with 2 goals and 15 assists in 20 games, which I’d like to think is pretty solid for the kind of defenseman I am. I didn’t even think that I was going to score any goals,to be honest. The only thing that I was lacking was speed, but that's what I plan on training in the future. I mean, all things considered, I think I wasn't bad at all.
M : What did you think about your team ?
S : My teammates were great to play with. Tedisko has an amazing shot, Kandisky and Adebowale are also incredible offensively. My fellow defensemen Hines and Toeman were fun to play with. Atlas Rush is just an amazing guy… I mean I could go on for hours about my teammates in the showcase, but in short, they were all great. I hope that I will get the chance to play with some of them again in the future, we had a blast playing together.
M : Now about the draft, what would be the ideal team to be drafted by?
S : *nervous laugh* That’s a though one! I would obviously like to be drafted by my hometown team, Montreal Militia, but I would also be very happy anywhere else. I’ve had the chance to talk with a couple of staff members of the other teams, and they all seemed pretty nice. There’s not really any team that I would absolutely dislike being drafted by.
M : What round do you think you’ll be drafted in?
S : I would be really, really, really be surprised to be drafted in the first round, considering all the other amazing prospects we have. It would be nice to be drafted in the second, but I could understand being drafted later too. I honestly wouldn’t want to be the GMs in this draft. So many insane prospects are available, I couldn’t choose between them.
M : Final question; who do you believe will go first overall on Tuesday?
S : I honestly couldn’t tell you, as I said, so many prospects deserve that honor. If I had to choose, I would probably go with Oliver Cleary, incredible defenseman, both offensively and defensively.
M : Well, thank you Simon for your time, and we wish you luck for the draft.
S : No problem, thank you very much.
As you can probably tell, this draft will be intense. All of the teams have a chance at players that could complete their rosters and maybe make their team the next winner of the Four Star Cup, who knows? The air here, in the SHJLProspect.com office, is filled with excitement. Everybody talks about the draft, gives their opinion on prospects and makes various predictions. Tuesday will be a special day indeed.
